Given U2’s reputation for pushing technical and creative boundaries with its live concerts, it seemed fitting that the band opened the anticipated Sphere in Las Vegas on Friday with its most ambitious and transportive live show ever: an electrifying live performance and visual odyssey that unfolds on Sphere’s enveloping 160,000-square-foot wraparound interior LED display.
Built for an estimated $2.3 billion, Sphere is a big gamble by Msg mogul James Dolan and Sphere Entertainment Co. (which was formed in April to combine Sphere and Msg Networks) on the future of entertainment. At 336 feet tall and 516 feet wide, the venue is now the largest spherical structure in the world, housing the largest interior and exterior wraparound LED displays. Inside, the enveloping LED display supports a high resolution of 16K, meaning that it delivers images so lifelike that it may make you feel as though you’re no longer in a Las...

Sydney, April 17 (Ians) Long Covid appears to manifest as a post-viral syndrome of no greater incidence or severity than seasonal influenza, finds new research.
However, the similarity observed is only valid for people who are vaccinated, according to the study, being presented at this year’s European Congress of Clinical Microbiology & Infectious Diseases (Eccmid) held in Copenhagen, Denmark between April 15 and 18.
The study by researchers at Queensland Health in Australia suggests that despite the similarity of clinical outcomes after Covid-19 and influenza, long Covid’s impact on public health systems is likely to stem from the volume of those infected with Sars-CoV-2, rather than the severity of long Covid symptoms.
“In our highly vaccinated population, the public health impact of long Covid does not appear to result from any unique property of Sars-CoV-2. Rather, the impact results from the sheer number of people infected over a short period of time,...

Brisbane, Dec 9 (Ians) Health authorities of Australia’s state of Queensland on Friday urged residents to get up to date with their vaccinations as the state is seeing an increasing number of Covid-19 infections.
Queensland Chief Health Officer John Gerrard said the number of positive cases had risen in the past week and was expected to keep trending upward until the fourth wave peaked, reports Xinhua news agency.
Reported positive cases between November 30 and December 7 reached 13,632, which is an increase of 21 per cent compared to the week prior, while the number of hospitalizations remained the same, according to the chief health officer.
He said a large number of people aged over 60 not up-to-date with their vaccinations are being infected.
“People in this group are at significant risk of severe illness if they contract Covid-19, so it is vital they receive four doses of the vaccine,” he said.
