At what point did "For All Mankind" truly come into its own? Maybe it was as early as its resounding debut season, which flipped one of the most pivotal events in human history on its head — the United States beating the Soviet Union to the moon — with an alternate-history twist where Russia had won the space race and reinvigorated the Cold War. Then again, season 2 was the one to use this fascinating jumping-off point to achieve even greater heights, melding human conflicts and space nerdery into one ambitious storyline about the series of small, personal choices made in narrowly avoiding the onset of World War III in the 1980s. When season 3 took the action all the way to Mars another decade later with much of the original cast still involved, it was easy to imagine the whole enterprise coming apart at the seams. Instead, the series embraced its own flawed (but three-dimensional) characters,...

After a few rough years, one could make a compelling argument that the broadcast comedy is back. We’ve got an awards juggernaut (ABC’s Abbott Elementary), some reasonably big hits (NBC’s Night Court, CBS’ Ghosts), plus a decent roster of above-average relative newcomers (NBC’s American Auto and Grand Crew, among others). It’s enough to restore your confidence in the format.
What does restored confidence buy you on a practical level? More specifically, how many episodes worth of patience does it buy you when your friendly neighborhood television critic tells you that a new sitcom with a wildly promising cast is doing something interesting, something with actual potential … but that in order to get to that potential, you have to sit through at least three or four episodes I’d (generously) call unamusingly generic and unsteady of tone? Any time a TV show opens with the main character providing exposition, the bar is pretty much set.
ABC’s “Not Dead Yet,” from creators David Windsor and Casey Johnson, opens with Nell (Gina Rodriguez) narrating essentially the series logline and synopsis.
“Five years ago, Nell Serrano threw away a promising career to move to London for a man. She went all in on love, until it dropkicked her in the face.” Nell gets drunk on weekdays and falls behind on laundry and offers lots of other flailing-adult signifiers right down to the actual line “How did I end up here?” She’s back at her old job, where she’s now entry-level and reporting to former peers who are now superiors. The half-hour comedy is adapted from Alexandra Potter’s “Confessions of a 40-something F**k Up.”

She sees dead people…and it’s rather funny. Based on Alexandra Potter’s novel Confessions of a Forty Something F##k Up, the new dramedy Not Dead Yet, created by Casey Johnson and David Windsor, both former producers on This Is Us, introduces Nell (Gina Rodriguez) in two episodes airing Wednesday, February 8. Nell’s not sure where her career or her life are heading: She has a demanding roommate (Rick Glassman), a tyrannical boss, loving friends (Hannah Simone and Josh Banday), and a new job she hates: writing obituaries — as teased in the exclusive first look clip above. (Credit: ABC/Scott Everett White) But Nell gets a surprise from her dead-end gig when the first of many ghosts (a delightful Martin Mull) shows up and teaches her valuable lessons about what’s important. “I really hope people embrace what we’re trying to do in letting those emotional moments...

For All Mankind explores what would have happened if the global space race had never ended. The series presents an aspirational world where NASA astronauts, engineers, and their families find themselves in the center of extraordinary events seen through the prism of an alternate history timeline — a world in which the Ussr beats the US to the moon.
The propulsive third season of the alternate reality series, which premiered to rave reviews, took viewers to a new decade, moving into the early ’90s with a high-octane race to a new planetary frontier: Mars. The Red...

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you haven’t watched “Stranger in a Strange Land,” the Season 3 finale of “For All Mankind,” now streaming on Apple TV+.
In its third season, Apple TV+’s “For All Mankind” encouraged viewers to turn their attention to the possibilities of Mars. But that deceptive invitation meant taking their eyes off the dangers on the homefront — until it was too late.
In the finale, the Mars-bound crews for NASA, Helios and Russia band together to launch a very pregnant Kelly Baldwin (Cynthy Wu) back to the Phoenix station to safely give birth in its controlled gravity above the Red Planet — a successful mission that effectively strands the rest of them for 18 months until they can be rescued. But just as victory is declared from the control center back on Earth, a domestic terrorism plot targeting NASA’s increasingly divisive space program came to devastating...

We're celebrating the latest events on For All Mankind Season 3 with an exclusive interview with Casey W. Johnson.
Johnson plays Danny, the troubled oldest son of heroes, Gordo and Tracy Stevens. Going to Mars hasn't done Danny any favors.
We jumped on the phone with Johnson to talk all about Fam's baddest boy. Enjoy.
Casey, Danny has been a really bad boy.
Mm-hmm.
First of all, he had an affair with Karen, and he can't let her go, even after getting married himself. How has that been haunting him?
Yeah, I think Karen's Danny's first love, and it's such a pivotal moment in his life. He not only experiences a heartbreak, but he experiences a tragedy of losing his parents. And there's also losing Shane at such a young age.
I think there's just so much confusion and build up of just not knowing what to do.
And he's just still drawn to Karen.

“For All Mankind,” Apple TV+’s popular alternative-history space drama series, was renewed Friday for a fourth season, it was revealed at Comic-Con. The news comes a little over a month after Season 3’s premiere.
“Since 1969, #ForAllMankind has journeyed from Earth to the Moon to Mars. The adventure will continue on Apple TV+,” the streamer’s Twitter account wrote.
In one giant leap for the series, “For All Mankind” has also toppled its streaming counterpart “Ted Lasso” as Apple TV+’s most in-demand show. Co-created by “Outlander’s” Ronald D. Moore as well as Ben Nedivi and Matt Wolpert, “For All Mankind” imagines a world where the global space race never ended, and the Soviets had placed the first human on the moon instead. Season 3 raced ahead in time to the early ’90s, with NASA, the Ussr and an unexpected new player within the private sector setting their sights on sending astronauts to Mars.

The astronauts in “For All Mankind” are icons of their world. In this branch of the Space Race multiverse, where the battle for supremacy beyond the atmosphere is the stuff of headlines and not 50th anniversary specials, the two Cold War powers operate like the bygone studio system. People in restrictive contracts, marketing stars to gin up extra publicity, culture-rocking events that have massive geopolitical ramifications, and extreme burnout on a grand scale.
Now in Season 3, the astronauts who made up the initial space program have each taken on their own kind of mythical status. Those who have died sacrificial deaths have been memorialized. Some who are still living have become infamous departmental legends and others have become even more prominent national figures. Over the show’s nearly three decades of story, the early Apollo astronauts have become not just household names but monumental figures of public life.

For all the internet, Apple TV+ has released the Season 2 “For All Mankind” trailer. Bad news: our revised past continues to look pretty bleak.

Season 2 of the Ronald D. Moore revised history drama premieres on Apple’s SVOD (subscriber video on-demand) platform on Friday, Feb. 19. The next nine episodes will roll out one at a time each subsequent Friday.
“For All Mankind” explores what would have happened if the global space race had never ended. The series presents an aspirational world where NASA astronauts, engineers and their families find themselves in the center of extraordinary events seen through the prism of an alternate history timeline — a world in which the Ussr beat the U.S. to the Moon.
Season 2 of the space drama picks up a decade later in 1983. It’s the height of the Cold War and tensions between the United States and the Ussr are at their peak.
