Thanos spent years lurking in the shadows before fully establishing himself as the Marvel Cinematic Universe‘s ultimate threat in the Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame double-header, but ever since the Mad Titan was vanquished to draw the Infinity Saga to a close, the rumor mill has gone into overdrive over who the next big bad could be.
While you could make the argument that Marvel don’t need to take the same approach throughout Phase Four and beyond, the success of the McU has largely been based on the ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’ formula and it seems more than likely that somebody is going to emerge as the next major adversary for the reassembled Avengers in the future.
Given the vast amount of iconic characters that the studio have at their disposal, there have already been countless candidates named as potential successors to Thanos,...

Previously on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., the season 5 finale saw Phil Coulson sacrifice his life by refusing to take the Centipede Serum that could have saved him and instead gave it to Daisy Johnson to help her defeat Graviton. In the final glimpse we got of him, he was living out the last few weeks of his life with Melinda May on a sunny beach in Tahiti.
But is this really the end of Phil Coulson? A man who’s previously survived death by Loki in The Avengers? That’s what fans have been wondering ever since and though season 6 has long been in production, we haven’t had any news either way about if Coulson will return. Thankfully, then, some new comments from Chloe “Quake” Bennet seem to have given us our answer, as they suggest that we really have seen the last of him.

Another season, another big bad defeated.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 5 saw Phil Coulson’s crew face one of their toughest challenges yet in the form of Glenn Talbot Aka the supervillain Graviton. It turned out that he was the prophesied “Destroyer of Worlds” who was at risk of bringing about the Earth’s doom – before Avengers: Infinity War‘s Thanos got the chance to do so himself. However, our heroes were able to defeat him, with Quake sending the big bad flying out into space the last time we saw him.
New comments from co-showrunner Jed Whedon, though, suggest that Graviton might not be as dead he seemed and could be in for a return next season. Whedon was speaking to EW when he teased that Talbot’s future is still in flux, saying:
“I know we see him floating in space, but he’s Graviton,...

Season 5 of ABC’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has mostly focused on Phil Coulson and his crew trying to stop the prophesied destruction of the Earth. Which, it turned out, all tied into Avengers: Infinity War. Kind of.
Episode 20, titled “The One To Save Us All,” featured a scene in which the villainous Glenn Talbot, who fans will know as comic book antagonist Graviton, discovered who’s behind the Earth’s doom from the Kree warrior Taryan. In case you missed it, it was Thanos. Yes, the same Mad Titan who’s currently tearing his way through the McU on the big screen.
Here’s how the illuminating dialogue exchange played out:
Taryan: Thanos, and his forces, have begun an assault on your world even as we speak.
Talbot: Well then, I’ve got to get down there with the Avengers and take on this Thanos.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will be getting a sixth season after all. The downside, though, is that it’ll be a shortened run consisting of only 13 episodes. What’s more, it won’t be with us until a whole year away, as ABC has confirmed that it’s moving the series to a summer slot in hopes of boosting the ratings up. If this works, the season could be gifted with an extra batch of episodes to make it the usual 22.
This is a bit of a mixed bag of news for fans, then. However, it might just be a blessing in disguise for the show’s writers. Because of its late start in 2019, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. won’t have to tackle the minefield that would be working around what happens in Avengers 4. By the time season 6 airs in summer 2019, the...

It may come as something of a surprise – or not – but the real enemy the titular heroes of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. have fought all season long isn't an alien, nor even their former frenemy Talbot, but time itself.
Never was that more apparent than in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 5 Episode 21. The arrival of Thanos; the impending destruction of Earth; Coulson's fast-approaching demise; Talbot's consuming madness.
Even the team's own self-doubts and interpersonal conflicts contain an element of time at the root of the problem.
Throw in the fact that the past several episodes have all taken place over about a single day, without time for our heroic Agents to breathe, let alone sleep? Clearly, time is not on their side.
It's actually brilliant, really, how this entire season (both obviously and subtly) carries this conflict with time. It all (seemingly) began with the heroes kidnaped to the future,...

Season 5 of ABC’s Marvel TV spinoff Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has focused on Phil Coulson and his team attempting to avert the prophesied destruction of the Earth. The exact reason why this happens at some point in the future has been a mystery all season, but the latest installment finally revealed the full story. And it turns out it all ties into Avengers: Infinity War.
Episode 20, titled “The One To Save Us All,” featured a scene in which the villainous Glenn Talbot, who Marvel fans will know as comic book antagonist Graviton, learned exactly who’s behind the Earth’s doom from the Kree warrior Taryan. In case you missed it, it’s Thanos, the purple alien overlord who’s currently tearing his way through the McU on the big screen.

Behold, in all his glory, Earth's Mightiest Hero. The one who will save us all. Hail, Graviton and his questionable facial hair! Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 5 Episode 20 featured some great scenes with Talbot and Coulson helplessly watching his friend's descent into madness.
The rest of it, well. Let's just call this one The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.
Working backwards, starting with the Ugly, we had the infighting by the members of Team Coulson, sans Coulson himself. This played out most obviously in a pair of scenes, one featuring Yo-Yo and Daisy and the other Fitz and Mack.
Let me just say this plainly: getting into physical fights with your colleagues in the middle of a corridor is bad leadership. If either Coulson or the show itself hopes to convince viewers that Daisy is fit to lead S.H.I.E.L.D., they're failing miserably.

Adrian Pasdar‘s foray into full-on facial hair will serve its pre-destined purpose, now that Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.‘s Glenn Talbot has transformed into a version of the comic books’ goateed Graviton.
But surely, ingesting allllll the gravitonium cannot be good for the already-addled general, right? Heck, tasting just 8 percent of the goop made young Ruby go boom!
TVLine invited Pasdar to preview best he is able Talbot’s gambit, his and Coulson’s meeting with some VIP aliens, and a possible Supergirl encore.

The following contains the mildest of spoilers from the movie Avengers: Infinity War.
TV’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is by no means done acknowledging the events of Avengers: Infinity War.
Already, in the April 27 episode, Mack’s friend Tony Caine (aka Candy Man) made a fleeting reference to “all the weird stuff happening in New York,” when he met up with Daisy.
Without spoiling much of anything, yes, the Marvel blockbuster’s first scenes in Earth take place in the Big Apple, home to Tony Stark and Peter Parker.
And more nods are still to come, as Coulson & Co. — who...

Kudos to all of you out there who predicted the coming of the comic book character Graviton! Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 5 Episode 19 revealed the character quite unexpectedly in the final minutes.
That's not to say his existence was unforeseen, obviously. But how many of us guessed that Talbot would be the one to take the plunge and absorb all the gravitonium?
I confess that I'm not overly familiar with Graviton's comic book version, aside from a few broad brush strokes, but I'm reasonably concerned that this will not mean a happily-ever-after for my favorite quipping partner for Coulson.
The whole thing has the makings of a tragedy. Poor Talbot, already broken by Hydra's tortures, tries to make things right. But how long can his fractured mind contain the screaming essences of Franklin Hall and Ian Quinn?
To make matters worse, what if it turns...

Wholly unexpected flashbacks, Batman! Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 5 Episode 16 definitely startled me, that's for sure.
Yes, we had the gravitonium, but up until now it seemed like the writers had completely forgotten how it absorbed Dr. Franklin Hall way back in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 1 Episode 3.
And that wasn't the only blast from the past in this latest installment, either!
Remember how that obnoxious businessman Ian Quinn (David Conrad) made a pain of himself working with John Garrett and Hydra and then just sort of vanished from the scene?

Amazingly (and amusingly, if black humor is your thing), turns out the show hadn't forgotten him, either. Given that the gravitonium "asked" for Quinn, one wonders how much of Dr. Hall is still within the mass.
In the comics, Hall became the super-villain Graviton. If that is happening here,...
