New Delhi, March 31 (Ians) The Sports Authority of India (Sai) felicitated their meritorious players and coaches for the year and gave them Sai Institutional Awards 2022-23, celebrating their 39th Foundation Day with a first-of-its-kind cultural event – Sangat.
The grand celebrations, which were held in Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, had Honourable Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports and Information & Broadcasting Anurag Singh Thakur as their chief guest who gave away the awards.
The event also felicitated Sports Padmasree awardees of the year 2022, who have also been Sai Coaches and/or players — Gurcharan Singh (Cricket), Capt. Shriram Singh (Athletics), Rani Rampal (Hockey), Mariyappan (Para Athlete), Late N Dingko Singh (Boxing) — award collected by his wife Babai Devi.

New Delhi, March 26 (Ians) India capped off an outstanding campaign by finishing with the highest gold medals (four) at the Iba Womens World Boxing Championship after the nations illustrious pugilists Nikhat Zareen and Lovlina Borgohain recorded stellar victories by contrasting margins in the finals at the Indira Gandhi Sports Complex here on Sunday.

New Delhi, March 25 (Ians) India’s Nitu Ghanghas (48kg) clinched the Women’s World Boxing Championship gold after beating Lutsaikhan Altansetseg of Mongolia 5-0 in the finals at the jam-packed Ig Stadium, here on Saturday.
The two boxers started proceeding on attacking note. However, it was the Indian, who landed her punches well on the Mongolian’s face resulting in Nitu winning the first round 5-0.
The second round was close enough but Nitu managed to keep the lead 3-2.
In the third round, the Indian gave her all and bagged the championship gold with some smart display of boxing.
