Snapchat is doubling down on docuseries and unscripted originals, it revealed at its Advertising Week presentation.
The platform has now released more than 100 original shows, and says it currently has dozens of new series in development. So far in 2020, its shows have collectively reached 75% of the U.S.-based Gen Z population, and Snapchat as a whole has reached 90% of U.S.-based 13 to 24-year-olds, it added.
Snap also doled out viewership figures for recent notable programming: Will Smith’s quarantine-time talk show Will from Home brought more than 35 million unique viewers; YouTuber Nikita Dragun’s Nikita Unfiltered has drawn 22 million viewers since debuting in March; and YouTuber Summer McKeen’s Endless, which was Snapchat’s very first docuseries, has brought in 38 million viewers since season one premiered in 2018.

In August, Summer McKeen quietly logged off social media. The 20-year-old lifestyle vlogger had been growing in popularity thanks in part to her starring role in the unscripted Snapchat series Endless Summer, a Laguna Beach for the Gen Z set, and she'd gained more than 1 million followers on Instagram in the past year. But with fame had come increased scrutiny and a growing chorus of criticism, and McKeen needed a break.

After partnering with indie beauty upstart Nudestix, YouTube and Snapchat star Summer McKeen is joining forces with mass cosmetics brand Maybelline on a limited edition lip gloss collection collaboration.
Six summer-themed glosses -- a nod to McKeen’s name, and inspired by her easy-going, surfer-style approach to beauty -- are available at Walmart stores today, and are also available for preorder at Walmart.com, according to Allure, where they will officially drop on July 15. The highly pigmented, shimmery glosses tout names like Barefoot (pink), Heatwave (berry), Sun Kissed (rose gold), and Tan Line (dark nude). Each is priced at $6.
"This collection is something I know will resonate with my fans," Mckeen told Allure in a statement. "I’m always on-the-go, so my beauty routine needs to reflect that. Lip gloss is a must for me, and any of the beautiful shades from my collection are perfect to just toss in my bag and go.

In the past, Snapchat has notoriously turned a blind eye to the digital creator community -- including via a widely-panned redesign earlier this year that minimized influencer reach amid the rise of copyright competitor Instagram Stories.
In recent months, however, Snapchat has taken pains to court creators -- including with an ad matchmaker program called Storytellers, new ecommerce capabilities, a creator accelerator initiative called Yellow, its first-ever Creators Summit, and new original series featuring the likes of Patrick Starrr and Summer McKeen.
And in a recent interview, Snap’s VP of content, Nick Bell, said that while he doesn’t have any regrets about the company’s past approach to influencers, Snapchat now has aspirations of fostering an in-app creator community like the factions that have flourished on both YouTube and Vine. “There was a generation of YouTubers created, right?" Bell told Recode. "And these were people who were creating actually really high-quality,...

Summer McKeen's sun-dappled lifestyle is proving to be must-watch content for her fans. McKeen, whose recent move into her own Laguna Beach home is chronicled in the Snapchat original series Endless Summer, is a creator who thrives on authenticity. Despite reeling in more than one million subscribers on her YouTube channel, she still shares videos from a point-of-view teenage girls can relate to. She put some of that authenticity on display in our recent conversation with her:
Tubefilter: How does it feel to have more than one million subscribers on YouTube? What do you have to say to your fans?
Summer McKeen: It's pretty insane. It's so hard for me to picture that many people! But it doesn't make me more nervous or anything while filming videos. Here's what I have to say to my fans: I seriously Love and appreciate every single one of you! My Mckbabes are...
