He wrote a biography on Henrik Ibsen in 1967, and a biography on Henrik Wergeland in 1972.
After the war he was a literary critic and theatre critic for Verdens Gang from 1945 to 1952.
He received the Arts Council Norway Honorary Award in 1973, and became Commander of the Royal Norwegian Order of St. Olav in 1973.
In 1979 he posthumously received the Fritt Ord Honorary Award.
He worked as a foreign correspondent for Dagbladet and Arbeiderbladet, in Great Britain and Ireland in 1929, in Finland in 1930, in Japan and China in 1932, and in Paris from 1938 to 1939.
