Director Mike Rianda Wrote A Little Of Himself Into Every Character In The Mitchells Vs The Machines
We've hardly entered the 2020s and "The Mitchells Vs. the Machines" is already in the running as one of the best animated films of the decade. Where the folks at Pixar have become really good at simulating the authenticity of our world, projects like this one scrubbed the notion of realism altogether, in favor of a vastly more interesting visual palette cleanser. Taking after "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse," the blending of CGI with 2D animation has proven that the animated medium can be used to create whatever kind of playful reality you want to see.
Even beyond its frenetic pace and heartfelt story, the oversized heart at the center of "The Mitchells Vs. the Machines" is this family. It doesn't take long before you fall in love with this band of lovable weirdos, as they're inadvertently tasked with saving the world from a robot apocalypse. Chances are that you know a Mitchell in your life.

On Saturday, Dec. 3, Noodle the pug's owner, Jonathan Graziano, announced his beloved dog passed away on Friday at the age of 14. The pup became famous when Graziano began posting on TikTok their morning ritual where he would gently lift the dog up in the morning to see if Noodle would stand and get out of bed or stay put. If Noodle got up, the day was declared a "Bones Day" - a day of productivity - and if he stayed in bed, it was a "No Bones Day," or a day to rest and be kind to yourself.
"Hi everyone. I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry to have to share this, but Noodle passed yesterday," Graziano shared with his dog's fans in an Instagram video. "He was at home. He was in my arms. And this is incredibly sad.

Phil Lord and Chris Miller are down the Oscar road again as producers on the animated feature “The Mitchells vs. the Machines,” receiving an Academy Award nomination earlier this week. However, their nomination wasn’t a given because the duo has clear memories of being snubbed in 2014’s “The Lego Movie.”
On this edition of the Variety Awards Circuit Podcast, Lord and Miller stop by to give their reaction to their well-deserved Oscar nomination and how they continue to redefine the animation medium with each new outing. The pair also discuss their choice to get into the business and how a meeting with ex-Sony Pictures chair Amy Pascal while working on “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” helped them move beyond jokes to telling a story. Finally, the pair also touch on the upcoming “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,” if Marvel Studios has approached them about integrating it into the...

The Netflix film "The Mitchells vs The Machines" is just the sweetest thing out there. It was one of the only films my entire family could agree on during the holidays. Aside from the lovely story about creativity, reliance on technology, and the love of family, it's got Monchi, played by famous doggie personality Doug the Pug. A film like this is a gift during a really crappy time in the world, but it's not the only gift you're getting. According to a tweet from Cartoon Brew, you can now check out the book "The Art of The Mitchells vs The Machines" for...

One minute your kid is born, and the next — almost literally, for some of us — you start to panic about that inevitable moment somewhere down the line when this helpless little blob creature isn’t going to need you anymore. As soon as they start to crawl you’re confronted with the cold reality that you’re teaching them how to get away from you. Independence is both the goal and the curse.
But while a certain amount of post-adolescent drift might be inevitable for anyone who doesn’t go full “Gilmore Girls,” the good news is that it’s never too late to close that gap. Not after the kid grows up. Not after the kid moves out. And, as it happens in the hyper-speed new animated family comedy from the producers behind “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” and “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse,” not even after the robot apocalypse.

Sony Pictures has sold “The Mitchells vs. The Machines,” an original animated family film from producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, to Netflix.
At one point, Sony changed the name from “The Mitchells vs. The Machines” to “Connected,” but it has reverted back to its original title. Sony had planned to release the film theatrically before Netflix acquired worldwide rights. The deal, which excludes China, was reportedly hammered out for more than $100 million. Neither company has confirmed the production budget, but price tags for animated films generally range anywhere from $50 million to $100 million.
Mike Rianda wrote and directed the film with Jeff Rowe. “The Mitchells vs. The Machines” is about an everyday family’s struggle to relate with each other while technology rises up around the world. The film centers on Katie (voiced by Abbi Jacobson), a creative type who gets accepted into her dream film school. Before she begins college,...

Facebook is increasing its presence this year at VidCon as the annual convention in Anaheim has emerged as the epicenter of the digital video scene.
For the first time, two of the social media giant’s executives, Instagram co-founder Mike Krieger and Facebook Vice President Fidji Simo, will participate in a fireside chat, talking about the future of video with Ami Dunn McClure, 35, Nigerian mother of the McClure twins who’ve become social media phenomenons.
VidCon’s Jim Louderback said the show, started in 2010 by the Vlogbrothers, John and Hank Green, has long been associated with YouTube and the ascendency of user-generated content.
The conference, which kicks off Wednesday night with a festival concert and continues through Saturday at the Anaheim Convention Center, is seeing broader participation from other digital platforms.
Livestreaming platform Twitch is joining this year for the first time as a sponsor and Snap taking part in panel discussions.
