The reviews are in for “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” Marvel Studios’ first solo superhero movie featuring an Asian lead and ensemble cast, and critics call the movie “a triumph,” “a groundbreaking step of representation” and “a fiercely Asian American superhero film.”
Along with praising the grounded action scenes in the film’s first half, Tony Leung’s villain Wenwu gets noticed for being “one of the best MCU villains yet.”
“If Marvel Studios has thus far made slow progress in developing solo adventures for its many superheroes of color, it takes another successful stride, if not quite as sizable as “Black Panther,” with “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” a film that builds simultaneously on the lexicon of 50 years of Hong Kong action films and the thematic boilerplate of MCU origin stories,” wrote TheWrap’s Todd Gilchrist in his review.

Having taken a break from a certain galaxy far, far away, Rian Johnson is set to return to Earth with “Knives Out.” Lionsgate debuted the trailer for the “Brick” and “Looper” director’s new project with Mrc, which until now has been referred to only as a “contemporary murder mystery,” during its CinemaCon panel today. That vague description has only piqued viewers’ curiosity, ditto its impressive ensemble cast: Daniel Craig, Chris Evans, Lakeith Stanfield, Michael Shannon, Ana de Armas, Don Johnson, Jamie Lee Curtis, Toni Collette, and Christopher Plummer.
Johnson was joined onstage by Curtis and de Armas, representing what Curtis called a family that “puts the diss in dysfunctional.” The director, for his part, compared “Knives Out” to Agatha Christie and said it has a “Hitchcock thriller-type twist.” He also revealed a bit about his characters: Craig plays a detective investigating a murder, and de Armas serves as the...

Arguably the second biggest comic book movie of 2018 – after Infinity War, of course – Deadpool 2 is quickly barreling down on its May 18th release date and as such, Fox has begun screening the sequel for critics and in just a few short days, we’ll finally get to see what everyone thinks. More importantly, though, we’ll also get to see how the pic stacks up to the aforementioned box office juggernaut.
That being said, fans shouldn’t expect the two releases to have very much in common. With the exception of Josh Brolin and one or two nods to Disney’s animated oeuvre, Deadpool 2 is worlds away from the superhero smackdown that is Avengers: Infinity War, and one need only look to the sequel’s raunchy trailers – not to mention those unexpected collaborations with pop queen Céline Dion – for evidence of that.
Nevertheless, all eyes are on the...

Had things panned out differently, Shane Black’s R-rated redo of The Predator would have already come and gone.
Yes, before it ultimately slipped to September, 20th Century Fox had planned to unleash its bold, bloody reimagining in February, but those plans were quickly shelved once it became clear that The Predator was in need of reshoots – reshoots that allegedly overhauled the entire third act a la Rogue One, but that’s another matter entirely.
The focus for today is CinemaCon, where Shane Black and the Powers That Be at Fox rolled out The Predator‘s tantalizing synopsis alongside a brief sizzle reel that has since been hailed as a delightful bloodbath from the four corners of the Internet.
As compiled by the folks over at Bloody Disgusting, The Predator hasn’t garnered anywhere near the same levels of excitement as Halloween, though perhaps that’s an unfair comparison, given...
