Deanna H. Choi is a film composer whose work is driven by curiosity, imagination, and playfulness. She has scored films and series on Netflix, AppleTV, PBS, and CBC Gem. Deanna's background as a classical violinist informs her sweeping orchestral textures, intimate chamber ensembles, and virtuosic solos. She is equally at home with the grandeur of a 'Planet Earth' score, the heartfelt vocals of a 'Minari' family drama, and the eclectic world-building of an 'Everything Everywhere All At Once' multiverse.
She began her career studying neuroscience and music cognition, then established herself as a leading theatrical composer/sound designer on stages across North America (including the Kennedy Center, Stratford Festival, and Mirvish Productions) before branching into film and television. Her research background fuels her drive to experiment, iterate, and innovate within her creative process. Her favourite stories abide by the IgNobel Prize mantra, to "make [art] that makes us laugh, then think." Her award-winning 'yellow fever' cabaret show, Love You Wrong Time (co-created and performed with Maddie Bautista) was a runaway hit since 2023, blending theatre, song cycle, and stand-up special.
Along with her partner Bryan Bindon, she is one half of Hive Mind Music, a composers' collective and score production company dedicated to collaborative music-making for screen media.
