Known commonly as "Prins Gustav", Frans Gustaf Oscar was prince of Sweden and Norway, and Duke of Uppland. Je was the second son of King Oscar I, of Sweden and Norway, and Josephine of Leuchtenberg (Joséphine de Beauharnais), Queen consort.
He composed a large number of songs, including 'Glad såsom fågeln' (Happy as a Bird) and 'Sjung om studentens lyckliga dag' (The Student Song), which are sung even today for various student activities.
