The cast of Bon Appetit’s massively popular 'Test Kitchen' YouTube series continues to dwindle.
Carla Lalli Music, Bon Appetit’s food editor at large as well as a frequent YouTube contributor, announced her resignation from video responsibilities on Twitter today (below). Lalli Music was formerly the host of a series called Back To Back Chef, in which she attempted to teach celebrity guests how to cook dishes using verbal instructions only.
In her statement, Lalli Music praised colleague Sohla El-Waylly for speaking up about the racist compensation practices at Bon Appetit in June. “It was a system that overwhelmingly favored white talent,” Lalli Music explained, noting that, in 2019, she signed a one-year contract with video arm Conde Nast Entertainment (Cne) for 48 days of work worth $48,000. “It certainly benefited me.”
While Lalli Music announced in June that she would cease making videos until all members of the channel were being fairly compensated,...

Two more Bon Appétit YouTube personalities have departed the Condé Nast title’s massively popular 'Test Kitchen' series.
Gaby Melian and Molly Baz announced in social posts that they will no longer be appearing on Bon Appétit's YouTube channel. Those resignations arrived shortly after three Test Kitchen staffers of color -- Sohla El-Waylly, Priya Krishna, and Rick Martinez -- tendered their resignations after months of unsuccessful contract negotiations were sparked by allegations of racism within the company in June. The popular YouTube channel has been dormant ever since.
“After weeks of negotiations, [Condé Nast's video production studio] Condé Nast Entertainment is not meeting my expectations regarding the plans to have a more diverse and inclusive video program," Melian shared on Instagram. "For that reason, I will not be signing a contract with them to appear in videos.”
