When I need to cover an hour-long video but I don’t have an hour to spare, I like to increase YouTube’s playback speed by 50. Apparently, I’m not alone. In a blog post, YouTube shared stats about its sped-up and slowed-down videos. Among other insights, the platform revealed that 85 of viewers who change their playback speeds prefer a faster tempo than the default option.
“We’re always working to give users more control over their experience on YouTube,” said Neal Mohan, YouTube’s Chief Product Officer, in a preamble to the post. “You may be familiar with the YouTube feature called video playback speeds which we launched back in 2010 to allow users to control just how quickly or slowly they want to watch content. In this installment of our innovation series, our team takes a look into how users engage with the playback speeds feature on YouTube.”
So what did YouTube find?...

Will Smith told Entertainment Weekly last December his version of the Genie in Guy Ritchie’s upcoming live-action “Aladdin” would “stand out as unique even in the Disney world,” and the 50-year-old actor certainly wasn’t lying. Disney finally unveiled Smith’s CGI-infused blue genie in a special trailer that aired during the 2019 Grammy Awards (see photo above) and it didn’t take long for shock and disbelief to erupt on social media in reaction to the footage.
The look of Smith’s Genie was widely mocked by film reporters and general “Aladdin fans,” with comparisons ranging from Tobias in “Arrested Development” to the thumb people in “Spy Kids” and the invisible “Bird Box” monster that makes people kill themselves when they look at it. Smith told EW he was going to bring a previously unseen “hip-hop flavor” to the character, who was famously voiced by Robin Williams in Disney’s 1992 animated movie.

Oh no...
Disney released the first proper trailer for Guy Ritchie's live-action Aladdin remake last night. In it, we got to see Mena Massoud as Aladdin, witnessed the magnificent Agrabah and the Cave of Wonders, and caught a little glimpse of Jafar and Iago, too, along with Aladdin and Jasmine's first meeting.
Which was nice.
Then, there came the big reveal - Will Smith as the Genie. Previously, Smith had appeared in some glossy promotional photos for the forthcoming film looking, well, basically like himself, but dressed as a Genie. However, the actor had warned fans that in the actual film, he would indeed be blue, like Disney's animated version of the character, famously voiced by the late Robin Williams.
It's safe to say that no one was prepared for the sight that awaited them when Smith's Genie lurched up on screen. If you haven't seen it yet,...
