In his role as ABC News’ Chief White House Correspondent, Jonathan Karl has helped tell the story of the Trump administration’s oversight of the United States. Now he and the news outlet are gearing up to tell the story behind the story.
ABC News will on Tuesday, July 28, at 9 p.m. unveil a “20/20” report that is three months in the making. “American Catastrophe: How Did We Get Here?” will give viewers a behind-the-scenes look at how the United States missed opportunities, warning signs and chances to prepare for the coronavirus pandemic, and interviews past and current U.S. officials in an attempt to figure out how the nation will proceed.
“This is the beginning of our reporting on the understanding of how we got here,” says Karl, in an interview Wednesday. “It’s a big step, but it’s a first step.”

On Sunday, it was revealed that Trump already knew the theory had been disproven prior to asking Zelensky to look into it.
Or, at least, he was told it had been disproven. Repeatedly.
So said Tom Bossert, Trump’s former homeland security adviser, during an appearance on ABC’s This Week.

Two days after doing the rounds of the Sunday Beltway shows, Donald Trump’s Homeland Security adviser Tom Bossert is out.
Technically, Bossert submitted his resignation. But political pundits say it’s no coincidence the resignation comes the morning after John Bolton’s first day as the third national security adviser of Trump’s 15-month-old administration.
Bossert, a White House point person on terror and cyber threat issues also helped spearhead the administration’s response to last year’s headline-grabbing hurricanes in Houston, Texas, in Puerto Rico, and Florida. He was a darling of White House press corps, with his Central-Casting looks and his calm, direct demeanor at press briefings.
NBC News reported this morning that Bossert socialized Monday night with current and former U.S. intel honchos at a conference in Georgia, unaware of any White House intention to seek his resignation. Still, Bossert can’t have been entirely surprised; on Sunday,...
