After being blown away by the Prime Video adaptation of Taylor Jenkins Reid’s novel Daisy Jones & The Six, I decided to circle back and read the author’s debut novel, the “tragic love story” drama Forever, Interrupted… and as the story went on, I became more and more surprised that it hadn’t yet received an adaptation of some sort. It seemed ready to be brought to the screen as a heartbreaking and heartwarming movie or TV show, with solid roles for two lead actresses. Well, now it’s getting its adaptation. Glamour reports (via Deadline) that Margaret Qualley (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood) and Laura Dern (Jurassic Park) are set to star in a limited series adaptation of Forever, Interrupted that’s coming our way from A24 and the Netflix streaming service.

Here's a new project announcements that just gets better and better as it goes on: Laura Dern and Margaret Qualley are set to star in an A24-produced Netflix limited series adaptation of Daisy Jones & The Six author Taylor Jenkins Reid's Forever, Interrupted, with Yellowjackets co-producer/writer Julia Bicknell attached as writer-showrunner. That's quite the team-up.
As reported by Deadline, the series will be a tender tale of love and loss told across dual timelines. Forever, Interrupted centres around Elsie (Qualley), whose whirlwind romance with lover Ben is cut cruelly short when, just nine days after having gotten married and found their happily ever after, Ben unexpectedly dies. In the aftermath of her husband's passing, Elsie finds herself coming face-to-face with her mother-in-law Susan (Dern), who doesn't even know she exists. As the narrative unfolds, recollecting Elsie and Ben's meeting in the past and Elsie and Susan's frosty-yet-soon-thawing relationship in the present,...

Of all the shows Mike Flanagan and his production company Intrepid Pictures made for Netflix – The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, Midnight Mass, The Midnight Club, and the upcoming The Fall of the House of the Usher – the Christopher Pike-inspired The Midnight Club was the only one that was designed to be an ongoing series. The finale left the story wide open to continue… so of course Netflix went ahead and cancelled it. But Flanagan had said that if the show wasn’t renewed, he would go online and spill all of the details on what they had planned for season 2. True to his word, Flanagan took to Tumblr to reveal the Midnight Club season 2 plans soon after Netflix confirmed the show is over.

It’s all over for The Midnight Club on Netflix, as the young adult series has been canceled after one season.
Word of the cancellation comes on the heels of news that series’ executive producers Mike Flanagan and Trevor Macy are leaving Netflix for an overall deal with Amazon Studios. Their Intrepid Pictures had been under a Netflix deal since 2019.
Adapted from a book by Christopher Pike, the story examined terminally ill teens living at Brightcliffe Hospice, a spooky mansion with its own secrets.
The 10-episode first season revolves a group of five young men and women who met at midnight and told stories of intrigue and horror. One night they make a pact that the first of them to die would make every effort to contact the others from beyond the grave.
Flanagan and Leah Fong co-created the series and executive produced with Intrepid’s Macy, along with Julia Bicknell and Pike.

Plot: At a hospice with a mysterious history, the eight members of the Midnight Club meet each night at midnight to tell sinister stories – and to look for signs of the supernatural from the beyond.
Review: It probably goes without saying that at this point, people are going to watch The Midnight Club simply because Mike Flanagan’s name is attached to it. After the acclaim for The Haunting of Hill House, Flanagan’s The Haunting of Bly Manor was met with a slightly less enthusiastic welcome. But, Flanagan’s Midnight Mass was a masterpiece of storytelling. If the pattern holds, The Midnight Club would be a weaker entry into the horror maestro’s oeuvre of shows. Luckily, I am glad to say that the series has broken expectations. The Midnight Club is nothing like any of Flanagan’s previous films or series but impresses nonetheless by combining an original...

One of pop culture’s newest masters of horror, Mike Flanagan, is about to have his new series, The Mightnight Club, unleashed on Netflix. Drawing inspiration and its title from the 1994 novel by Christopher Pike, this ten-episode series was created by Flanagan and Leah Fong. They also serve as executive producers alongside Trevor Macy, Julia Bicknell, and Christopher Pike. The series debuts on Netflix on October 7, but The Midnight Club isn’t the only piece of classic horror literature on Flanagan’s mind.
Speaking exclusively with Flanagan and producer Trevor Macy via Zoom about The Midnight Club, JoBlo’s Alex Maidy pointed out a Dark Tower Easter egg in the series. After confirming the nod to the Stephen King classic series of novels, Alex asked if there were any chance the duo would adapt King’s epic tale for a series or film. Flanagan replied by saying The Dark Tower is “1000 a dream project.

“One of the big things we assumed was that the younger viewers could handle scares,” Flanagan tells Empire, indicating that the terror of his latest series hasn’t been toned down for a younger audience. He says of Pike’s work in general, “He wrote some pretty advanced stuff for his younger readers, and it was not at all uncommon for his teenage characters to die, pretty shockingly. His books were full of things I found really exciting and thrilling and dark.”
“So I became a bit of an addict,” Flanagan adds.

More than 400 prominent female writers and showrunners sent a letter today to the heads of the major studios expressing their “grave concerns” about the companies’ “lack of specific production protocols” to protect their workers in anti-abortion states.
The letters, which state that “it is unacceptable to ask any person to choose between their human rights and their employment,” also demanded that the companies “pledge to discontinue all political donations to anti-abortion candidates and political action committees immediately.”
Deadline has obtained a copy of the letter to Netflix, which organizers say was sent to top executives at Amazon Studios, AMC Networks, Apple, Disney, Lionsgate, NBCUniversal, Netflix, Paramount Global, , and Warner Bros. Discovery.
The letters, whose signers include Ava DuVernay, Shonda Rhimes, Amy Schumer, Marta Kauffman, Callie Khouri, WGA West vice president Michele Mulroney and WGA West secretary-treasurer Betsy Thomas, said that “this situation raises basic matters of equality, health, and safety in the workplace.

Ever since moving to L.A. in 2007, Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson have been writing at home. While they always pen episodes separately — “If I could be in a bunker deep underwater where no one in the world would know of my existence, that’s where I would go to write,” he says — the “Yellowjackets” showrunners come together in their study to talk through bigger ideas or any issues that need salvaging.
While the pair have worked sporadically in an office over the years, they’ve mostly done their writing from their home, wherever that may be. “I think the first script that we wrote here, we just sat at the dining room table across from each other, which seems so insane to me,” says Nickerson.
Now, they’ve found their groove and look forward to coming together in the library: “It’s just the place where I feel like...

Nahnatchka Khan launched a show (NBC’s “Young Rock”) during the Covid-19 pandemic, but she considers herself lucky that she was able to start the writers’ room ahead of the lockdown. This meant getting to sit with her new team in person for “five or six weeks” in early 2020.
“It was honestly a gift,” she says. “On a first season show, it’s invaluable to just be all together like that to get into the flow.”
Once they did have to pivot to working from home, she was leading her room steps away from her wife, Julia Bicknell, who was also in a Zoom writers’ room. Their two dogs were always in her space, as well.
“We were like, ‘Our house is too small!’ Our thing was, ‘Let’s get on Zillow and figure out where we’re going,'” Khan says, adding that they did recently successfully close on a new home.
