[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Big Mood Season 1.] Big Mood has landed on Tubi and with it, the complicated friendship between writer Maggie (Nicola Coughlan) and bar-owner Eddie (Lydia West), who are tight-knit, but also struggle to maintain their cool as Maggie’s bipolar disorder and Eddie’s financial troubles put a strain on the ease of that relationship. The six-episode season follows the pair as they go through day-to-day struggles, but it seems they reach their final straw when Maggie isn’t able to accompany Eddie for an abortion, despite promising her she’d be there. While Maggie’s absence stems from wonky medication levels throwing off her sense of time, it’s enough to lead Eddie to pack her bags after the closure of her bar for a solo getaway after the two had initially planned to jet set together. Netflix; Tubi There is clear pain between them in that final moment, leading...

Nicola Coughlan said she would spontaneously burst into tears while balancing filming schedules for Bridgerton and Big Mood.
“I’d film one show during the week, the other on the weekend,” Coughlan told AP Entertainment. Coughlan stars as Penelope Bridgerton in season three of Netflix’s Bridgerton, out next month, and as Maggie in the UK’s Channel 4 comedy Big Mood, released in March.
“I remember that I was so tired, I would just start crying randomly,” Coughlan said of balancing both projects at once. “And I would I would be saying, ‘There’s nothing actually wrong with me. I am just very tired.’ I had to learn my Big Mood script on the Bridgerton set.”
The Derry Girls star said the back-and-forth was made more difficult because the two shows are very different. “Big Mood has quite naturalistic dialogue,” she explained. “Bridgerton is very stylized. We’d film...

AGC Studios chief creative officer Lourdes Diaz has signed a new multi-year employment agreement and has been elevated to partner with a seat on the board of the independent film and television studio.
The promotion comes on the back of founders Stuart Ford, chairman and CEO, and Miguel Palos, chief operating office, themselves signing new multi-year agreements late last year.
Since AGC launched in 2018, it has become one of Hollywood’s leading production and financing players, with 41 major film and TV productions under its belt.
In a statement, Ford and Palos said Diaz had been a “hugely influential contributor to the company’s explosive growth.”
They added: “Aside from building a highly respected scripted television operation, in her broader role as chief creative officer she has shaped key decisions on the feature film and unscripted sides of the company, helped kickstart our Family and YA division and has made us...

A raucous comedy from playwright Camilla Whitehill, “Big Mood” teams “Bridgerton” and “Derry Girls” alum Nicola Coughlan with ‘It’s a Sin’ star Lydia West to dive headlong into mental illness and friendship. Fremantle, heading global distribution, will showcase the project in Cannes as part of its Mipcom slate. The market kicks off Oct.16.
A divinely sardonic and captivating laugh riot, the upcoming Channel 4 series presents an earnest portrait of mania and biologically-induced despair in a world where mental health has been commodified and sanitized for ease of consumption. Whitehill manages a highly nuanced depiction of Coughlan’s Maggie, whose bipolar pendulum swings erratically, as she tries desperately to regain control of her fleeting agency while clinging tightly to longtime friend Eddie, played by West.
“We’ve done a lot of patting ourselves on the back as a society, saying, ‘We’re really facing mental health,’ but we’re not.

Coming off another year marked by uncertainty and conflict, ordinary, unlikely heroes take center stage in a slew of new shows. While crime especially the Nordic-inspired kind is not going anywhere, and there are quite a few spectacles waiting around the corner, including Mipcom world premiere “Concordia,” intimate stories about families and friends butting heads but ultimately trying to come together continue to dominate the market stage. There are also more portrayals of strong, complicated women who dare to dream big today or in the past. The following is a list of some of the buzziest titles at Mipcom.

Penny Wilding (played by Robyn Malcolm) likes to keep herself very busy: she is a science teacher, basketball coach, environmental activist, mother and grandmother. Famously outspoken and suffering no fools, she alienates many in her close-knit community. But Penny is perfectly fine with that.

“Those About to Die,” AGC Television’s upcoming gladiator series from Roland Emmerich, stars Anthony Hopkins and boasts a cast drawn from across Europe and the Middle East. It’s also financially innovative.
Rather than rely on a single, deep-pocketed streamer to write the check for the pricey series, budgeted at $145 million for the first season, AGC adopted a split rights structure: U.S. rights are licensed to Peacock, European rights to Hep, the Herbert Kloiber Sr./Constantin joint venture, and AGC International distributing in the rest of the world.
AGC chairman and CEO Stuart Ford takes pride in proving the naysayers wrong with financing for the project set in ancient Rome and based on Daniel P. Mannix’s book of the same name.

Early in writer-director Jim Strouse’s Love Again, music journalist Rob Burns (Sam Heughan) receives his latest assignment: a profile on Celine Dion as she embarks on a new tour. When Rob, a defiantly unsentimental Scottish bloke, scoffs at the gig, his editor (Steve Oram) fires back by declaring that Dion is in the midst of a “Celine-aissance.” The legitimacy of that statement is debatable, but Dion is at least experiencing something of a cinematic boomlet, between the gonzo fictionalized biopic Aline and references in films as diverse as Turning Red and Queens of the Qing Dynasty.
In any case, Dion is the selling point of Love Again, with the Canadian pop superstar executive producing, performing new songs for the soundtrack, and co-starring as herself. The central narrative of this syrupy-sweet romantic-comedy, however, follows the romantic entanglements of Rob and grieving children’s book illustrator Mira Ray (Priyanka Chopra Jonas). Even before he started kicking the ball downfield as Jamie Tartt in the Emmy-winning "Ted Lasso," Phil Dunster was kicking around the film and television industry as a working actor. Dunster is one of those faces that you might have already seen in a minor role somewhere and forgotten before he gained more visibility in "Ted Lasso." Who remembers his 2017 appearance, for instance, in Kenneth Branagh's star-studded film adaptation of "Murder on the Orient Express," where he played the father of a girl named Daisy?

Legend has it, if you say ‘New Doctor Who’ in a mirror three times, Kris Marshall appears.
The Death in Paradise star (who is starring in the Devon-set spin-off series Beyond Paradise on BBC One) has for many years been one of – if not the – top names whenever we hear there’s a Doctor Who regeneration on the way. In 2017, the rumours were so solid that the bookies even stopped taking bets on him becoming Peter Capaldi’s successor.
And yet Kris Marshall himself confirmed last year that he’s never even been approached for the show. Not only that – and readers might want to sit down for this one – he’s never watched a single episode.
Now we’ve got over that bombshell, it’s time to ask: how on earth did the Kris Marshall Doctor Who rumours start?

“Bridgerton’s” Nicola Coughlan and “It’s a Sin’s” Lydia West are set to co-star in a new comedy for Channel 4 titled “Big Mood” (working title).
The show, which was previously titled “Super Close,” will be produced by Fremantle’s Dancing Ledge Productions. It was written and created by Camilla Whitehill (“Porters”). “Brooklyn Nine Nine” director Rebecca Asher is also on board to helm the six part series, which is set to start shooting this spring. Fremantle will handle global sales.
According to the logline, the show “is a vivacious and rebellious portrayal of female friendship when infiltrated by the complexities of a serious mental illness.”
It follows the friendship of Maggie (Coughlan) and Eddie (West) who spent their twenties living in each other’s pockets.
But as they look forward to the next decade – with all its pressures, career-related and otherwise – Maggie’s bipolar disorder makes an unwelcome return.

"I think I might have feelings for someone I've never met." Sony Pictures has revealed an official Valentine's Day trailer for a romantic comedy called Love Again, made by the filmmaker Jim Strouse. It's based on a book that was already turned into another German movie called Text for You, which is about the story and a woman who finds love over texts. Which sounds a bit scary more than lovely. Netflix is back with a new bag of holiday offerings to distract you from cooking and wrapping presents, and we’ve got the run-down of the best and worst, although this is an exceptionally good batch of Christmas movies. With that in mind, we’ve done our best to help you find what best suits your holiday vibe, so you know what to curl up with at the end of a long day spent trying to remember how to socialize after three winters’ worth of partying on Zoom.
The below list is ranked from what is, in our opinion, the best holiday treats Netflix is offering to the worst.

What happens when ordinary people fall down the rabbit hole of extraordinary criminal activity? This is a premise that has captivated prestige television in recent years, from Sally Wainwright’s miraculous Happy Valley to Noah Hawley’s pitch-black re-imagination of Fargo. Normal people – neither good nor bad – trapped in a cycle of bad decisions. And this is the territory that Steven Moffatt – ex of the parishes of Doctor Who and Sherlock – is treading with his new four-part BBC thriller, Inside Man.
The man on the inside is Stanley Tucci’s Jefferson Grieff, a former professor of criminology now on death row for murdering his wife. He’s imprisoned somewhere deep in the arid American South, where he takes a philosophical stance on his impending death. When asked whether he wants to be executed, he replies with a shrug, “I don’t want to be executed, and my wife didn’t...

Inside Man is a good pun and a bad story. The four-part black comedy drama is about Jefferson Grieff (Stanley Tucci), a criminologist on death row in Texas who, for reasons unexplained, is allowed to run a rudimentary detective agency while awaiting execution. That makes Grieff an inside man both in the prison sense, and in the criminal-solving-crimes sense. See? Good pun, and a decent premise for say, a CBS procedural in the NCIS/Ghost Whisperer pattern: a case a week to be solved by Tucci’s charismatic lead before his very literal deadline.
Cut-and-shut welded to a different story set in the UK about an Anglican vicar (David Tennant) making decisions so needlessly stupid that you wonder he has the capacity to put his cassock on the right way round, that premise (and pun) unfortunately collapse. Even Inside Man’s strong cast, pacy directing from Sherlock’s Paul McGuigan...

Warning: contains spoilers for the Inside Man finale
Like death row inmate Jefferson Grieff, Inside Man wants more life. That’s the only explanation for its post-credits scene, which added nothing but questions to an already unsatisfying story.
After the credits rolled on the fourth and final episode, lingering viewers saw Grieff (Stanley Tucci) and his companion/human recording device Dillon being led into the interview room of their US prison. There, they met Janice Fife, the British woman whose murder Grieff had averted a week earlier from across the Atlantic using a combination of his criminologist nous and his best guess (“Guessing is how reason proceeds in the absence of fact” is one of his Sherlock-ian slogans).
Janice Fife’s Husband
Janet (Dolly Wells) was in the US to bring the ‘death row detective’ a case. “You do understand that I’m a little pressed for time?” he asked,...

Watching “The Pentaverate” with the purpose of reviewing it gave me enormous sympathy for Wile E. Coyote trying to trap the Roadrunner while knowing, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that it would end in him getting flattened. The mission felt doomed from the start, and yet I just kept marching onward through Netflix’s newest comedy starring a comedian whose most relevant and lucrative days are long behind him. Making sense of “The Pentaverate” simply isn’t the point of “The Pentaverate,” which exists to let Mike Myers do whatever he wants almost 15 years after he last starred in a project of his own.
With “The Pentaverate,” which dropped its six episodes on May 5, Myers gets to play as many characters as he likes in a story about a centuries-old cabal resisting discovery. As narrator Jeremy Irons (yes) tells us in the opening credits, the difference between other secretive...

"According to the world, you're already dead." Myers is back, baby! Netflix has revealed the full-length official trailer for an insanely wacky new comedy series called The Pentaverate (it's pronounced "pen-tav-urr-uht") the latest original creation by Mike Myers. The Pentaverate must never be exposed. An unlikely Canadian journalist finds himself embroiled in a mission to uncover the truth about the world's oldest and most influential secret society. It seems like he's mocking Q and right wing conspiracy nuts, then going even further and making fun of anyone into conspiracies and these organizations like the Illuminati or Masons. Myers will play 8 characters in total, including a Canadian journalist, a conspiracy theorist, a right wing radio host, "Lord Lordington" of The Pentaverate, an Ex-Russian oligarch, and a tech genius, among others. The series main cast also includes Ken Jeong, Keegan-Michael Key, Debi Mazar, Richard McCabe, Jennifer Saunders, & Lydia West. This looks hilarious and entirely original,...

The Illuminati? So out of fashion. Comedian Mike Myers turns his focus on farcical secret society the Pentaverate in a new Netflix series of the same name. The series premieres May 5.
Myers plays eight different characters, including protagonist Ken Scarborough who is an old-school Canadian news journalist determined to uncover the secrets of the Pentaverate to win his job back. Other Myers alter-egos include that of a New England conspiracy theorist, a far-right radio host (slash conspiracy theorist…we’re seeing a theme here), a former Russian oligarch, an ex-rock-‘n-roll manager, a key Pentaverate tech genius, and the head of the secret society, villain Lord Lordington.
The six-episode series also stars Ken Jeong, Keegan-Michael Key, Debi Mazar, Lydia West, and Richard McCabe. Jennifer Saunders will also do double duty as a brother and sister duo. Rob Lowe and Maria Menounos will also make special appearances, and Jeremy Irons serves as narrator.

The first official trailer for Mike Myers‘ The Pentaverate is here. And naturally, he’s playing a billion characters in the Illuminati parody. Netflix debuted the trailer on April 28 in addition to announcing new cast members Rob Lowe and Maria Menounos. “What if a secret society of five men has been working to influence world events for the greater good since the Black Plague of 1347?” the logline teases. “As this new series begins, one unlikely Canadian journalist finds himself embroiled in a mission to uncover the truth and just possibly save the world himself. Remember, the Pentaverate must never be exposed!” In The Pentaverate cast are Ken Jeong, Keegan-Michael Key, Debi Mazar, Richard McCabe, Jennifer Saunders, and Lydia West, with Lowe and Menounos seemingly appearing as themselves and Jeremy Irons as the narrator. The trailer shows Myers and his cohorts in a slew of hilarious scenarios, poking fun at pop...
