Autobots, assemble: Paramount has released a trailer for “Transformers One,” the animated prequel film led by the voices of Chris Hemsworth, Brian Tyree Henry and Scarlett Johansson.
Hemsworth voices young Optimus Prime, when he was just known as Orion Pax. Henry is D-16, before he became Optimus’ rival Megatron. The trailer shows the two starting out as simple worker bots, unable to transform into anything. But soon they gain the ability to change into vehicles and gain weapons, as a battle against a mysterious, plant-like villain unfolds on the Transformers’ home planet of Cybertron.
Other cast members include Johansson as Elita, Keegan-Michael Key as Bumblebee, Jon Hamm as Sentinel Prime and Laurence Fishburne as Alpha Trion. Hemsworth and Henry introduced a first look at the prequel film April 11 at CinemaCon.

The "Transformers" movies took a pretty healthy break after the release of 2018's "Bumblebee," even if that wasn't originally the plan that Paramount Pictures had in mind. Regardless, thanks to the pandemic, that's exactly what happened. But with the release of "Transformers: Rise of the Beasts" in 2023, the franchise is back with much more to come. Not only are we poised for more live-action movies but we're also getting a feature-length, theatrically-released animated film in the form of "Transformers One."
While the robots in disguise started out as toys, it was in no small part thanks to the '80s animated series, as well as 1986's "Transformers: The Movie" that helped make the Autobots and Decepticons staples of pop culture. So bringing it back around to animation feels like a full-circle moment, and one that may well excite fans who checked out during Michael Bay's later live-action entries. So...

Paramount has pushed back the release date for Transformers One, the newest animated feature in the Transformers franchise that was unveiled at CinemaCon in April. The origin story from director Josh Cooley, previously set to open on July 19, 2024, will now bow nationwide on September 13, 2024.
While the sole competitor on its new date is an untitled film from Uni/Blumhouse, the project hits theaters shortly after the September 6th debut of Warner Bros’ Beetlejuice 2, Disney’s Blade and another unknown Disney pic. It had previously been set to contend with Universal’s Twisters.
Hailing from Paramount Animation, Hasbro and eOne, Transformers One tells the story of how a young Optimus Prime (Chris Hemsworth) and Megatron (Brian Tyree Henry) went from being brothers-in-arms to sworn enemies. Also starring are Scarlett Johansson, Keegan-Michael Key, Jon Hamm and Laurence Fishburne, who are respectively voicing Elita, Bumblebee, Sentinel Prime and Alpha Trion.

The Robots in Disguise return to theaters with a new mission the weekend of June 9, and analysts are already crunching numbers for the film’s summertime debut. According to Hollywood trend watchers and number hounds, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts could make $68M to $70M in its opening weekend in the U.S. and Canada.
That number is impressive after 2018’s Bumblebee opened to $21.6M in the domestic market, while Transformers: The Last Knight did $44.6M over a $68.4M Wednesday through Sunday window. If Transformers: Rise of the Beasts performs as expected, the action-packed installment inspired by a nostalgic property will be another win for the recovering box office. For those keeping track, Fast X is racing toward a $60M debut, with Disney’s live-action version of The Little Mermaid swimming toward $110M. Elsewhere, Spider-Man: Acorss the Spider-Verse could web up $80M, setting the summer box office on fire.
