When the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes got underway earlier this year, many Netflix shows were left with fates up in the air.
Now that the strikes are over and Hollywood is getting back to normal, the series won't be making the cut for additional seasons are being revealed.
Deadline revealed Wednesday that Shadow & Bone, Glamorous, Agent Elvis, Farzar, and Captain Fall will not be returning.
Shadow & Bone is the highest profile of the five shows, having made it to a second season.
Despite the freshman season garnering considerable buzz, Shadow & Bone Season 2 launched earlier this year to little fanfare.
Based on the Grishaverse books by Leigh Bardugo, Shadow and Bone Season 2 follows Alina Starkov, who is now on the run.
The series stars Jessie Mei Li (Alina Starkov), Archie Renaux (Malyen Oretsev), Freddy Carter (Kaz Brekker), Amita Suman (Inej Ghafa), Kit Young (Jesper Fahey), Danielle Galligan (Nina Zenik...

The "Shadow and Bone" universe is lush with magic, from bursts of light that shoot out of characters' hands to ancient swords that can cut through seemingly indestructible shadows. In the world of "Shadow and Bone," though, these powers aren't actually called magic - they're instead referred to as the "small science," or the art of manipulating matter, and the characters who practice it are called Grisha.
There are three main categories of Grisha - the Corporalki, Etherealki, and Materialki - and each is broken down into subsets, such as Inferni, who can manipulate fire; Heartrenders, who can control people's internal organs and can also detect when people are telling the truth; and Durasts, who can bend and move metals with their minds. But in the real world, the "Shadow and Bone" cast have differing opinions on which powers are most covetable.

The good ol' Grishaverse returns in Netflix's "Shadow and Bone" season 2, an adaptation of author Leigh Bardugo's young adult fantasy adventure novels. Starring Ben Barnes, Jessie Mei Li, Archie Renaux, Freddie Karter, Kit Young, Amita Suman, Danielle Galligan, and Calahan Skogman, among others, the series tells the story of a country divided by the Shadow Fold, a path of unnatural darkness that is home to gnarly, flesh-eating monsters. As Alina Starkov (Mei Li) discovers the once-dormant magic she possesses that makes her a Grisha, she endeavors to tear down the Fold — but it's not easy when its creator is working equally hard to expand it.
In season 2, we meet many new characters, perhaps the most fascinating being Patrick Gibson's Sturmhond/Nikolai Lantsov. The 27-year-old Irish actor nails the role; it's like watching the character jump off the book's pages and onto the screen. He's charming, he's persuasive,...

“Shadow and Bone” showrunner Eric Heisserer has already assembled a writers room to plan for a potential “Six of Crows” spinoff series, which he hopes could follow Season 2 of the Netflix fantasy show.
The first two seasons of “Shadow and Bone” adapt both the trilogy of the same name by Leigh Bardugo and the “Six of Crows” duology set in the same universe, coralling characters from both books together. Season 2 continues to adapt “Shadow and Bone,” but the finale sets the stage for a bigger plot from the Crows side of things.
“The story of ‘Six of Crows’ is a heist in the Ice Court, which is deep in Fjierda and it is around a sacred holiday of theirs called Hringkälla,” Heisserer told TheWrap. “The whole book of ‘Six of Crows’ is devoted to that, and what we’ve done in Season 2 was essentially set that up as the next crow story.

Two years after "Shadow and Bone" made its debut on Netflix, the Grishaverse finally returns with season 2 of the fantasy-action-romance hybrid. Based on the books by Leigh Bardugo, this is a show dense with lore that shows no mercy to non-book readers and/or those for whom April 2021 is a distant, foggy memory. It's definitely worth rewatching the first season if you don't want to be floundering in questions like "wait, what's merzost?" and "who the hell are all these people?"
If you don't have time for a rewatch, here are the basics. The world is made up of ordinary people and Grisha, born wizards with power over certain elements. Some can control wind, some can control fire, some can control water, some can manipulate materials, some can hear heartbeats and squish people's internal organs at will. In season 1, orphan Alina Starkov (Jessie Mei Li) learned that she was a...

“Shadow and Bone” Season 2 has added a few more names to the Netflix young-adult fantasy series.
Lewis Tan (“Mortal Kombat”), Anna Leong Brophy (“Back”), Patrick Gibson (“The Oa”) and Jack Wolfe (“The Witcher”) have all joined the production’s ensemble, the streamer announced on Thursday morning.
Gibson will play the role of Nikolai Lantsov, while Brophy and Tan will play the roles of Tamar Kir-Bataar and Tolya Kir-Bataar, respectively. The three characters are closely associated with each other in the original “Shadow and Bone” series of novels. Notably, the particulars of Lantsov’s identity come as somewhat of a reveal in the novels, so Netflix’s official announcement of an actor being cast as the character comes as a surprise to fans of the books.

If there’s one lesson Netflix learned from its runaway 2020 hit The Witcher, it’s this: In these troubled times, the viewing public is voracious for escapist fantasy television. Adapting a beloved book is one of the trickiest high wire acts there is in television. Change too much and risk the wrath of a passionate fanbase; change too little and risk losing the magic in replicated story beats that make more sense on the page than the screen. Despite their constant overlap, television and narrative fiction are two entirely different mediums that usually require entirely different approaches. Embodying what makes a book sing for its readers isn’t as easy as casting a bunch of telegenic actors for the parts. It doesn’t just require skill, but flexibility to well and truly adapt the material beyond a basic transposal.

Shadow and Bone, the Netflix series adapted from Leigh Bardugo’s gorgeous Grishaverse series, isn’t just a straight adaptation of the book that shares its name. In addition to the Shadow and Bone trilogy, the series will also be adapting Six of Crows, a duology set in the same world. It’s an ambitious choice, given that Six of Crows takes place after the events of Shadow and Bone, but it’s a smart one. The addictive heist drama of Six of Crows brings a different and complementary energy to the dark, fantastical world readers are introduced to in Shadow and Bone. If showrunner Eric Heisserer (Bird Box) can effectively integrate the Six of Crows characters into Shadow and Bone, then both book fans and those unfamiliar with the source material alike are in for a treat. But what will the incorporation of these two separate-though-related series look like?...

Netflix will be bringing Leigh Bardugo’s Shadow and Bone series to television with Bird Box writer Eric Heisserer as showrunner.
In its ongoing bid for total media domination, Netflix is turning to one of the oldest kinds of media: books.
The streaming giant announced today that it would be adapting the Grisha fantasy trilogy. The Grisha trilogy comes from American author Leigh Bardugo and is made up of the novels Shadow and Bone (2012), Siege and Storm (2013), and Ruin and Rising (2014). Another novel, Six of Crows was released in 2015 and is set in the "Grisha-verse." Netflix specifically mentioned Shadow and Bone and Six of Crows in their announcement as the books being adapted.
Shadow and Bone will be eight episodes and Netflix has brought out their creative big guns for it. Eric Heisserer (the writer of Netflix's uber hit Bird Box) will produce the series and serve as showrunner.
