Juan Jaramillo, hailing from Colombia and Deaf since birth, is a multifaceted individual - a founder, Artistic Director, and playwright. Embarking on a creative journey, he crafted his inaugural play, 'Fernando and His Llama Friend,' in collaboration with 258signs Production. This remarkable production, entirely in sign language, showcased a talented cast of nine Deaf individuals and graced stages across Canada, including distinguished venues like the Sound Off Deaf Theatre Festival in Edmonton. Additionally, he collaborated with esteemed theatre companies such as Roseneath Theatre in Toronto.
In acknowledgment of his outstanding contributions, Juan earned a coveted nomination for the 2023 Dora Mavor Moore Award in the category of Outstanding New Play. Furthermore, his work secured a place among the top 10 Canadian artists invited to participate in the Pitch session at the 2023 Edinburgh Festival Fringe Spotlight Canada, indicating the thrilling prospect of international performances.
