Monday night during the Semi-finals 2 episode of “America’s Got Talent: Fantasy League,” Australian singer Sheldon Riley from “AGT” Season 15 returned to the big stage with his rendition of “golden hour” by Jvke. While Mel B (his mentor), Heidi Klum and Simon Cowell gave him mostly positive comments, Howie Mandel received boos from the studio audience for his harsh criticism of Sheldon’s performance.
“You know, I’m just gonna say what I thought,” Howie declared when it was his turn to speak. “I think you’re one of the best singers we have heard on this show. But tonight, I thought that was way off. I found that way off.” As the crowd reacted negatively to Howie’s comments, he continued on, “Rather than hitting the notes, you were hitting volume, and you stayed in one little plane and it was just loud. “America’s Got Talent” crowned its 15th champion on Wednesday night after what was one of reality TV’s most unconventional seasons. Due to the global pandemic, the show adapted to incorporate video submission auditions, a modified Judge Cuts round then quarter- and semi-final rounds that included live performances from the Universal Studios lot as well as some pre-recorded or via satellite from different parts of the world. When Sheldon Riley entered the stage of “America’s Got Talent” on the seventh night of auditions, judges Simon Cowell, Sofia Vergara and Howie Mandel weren’t quite sure what to make of him. His sense of fashion was the first statement he made, using a stylish black outfit and a rhinestone face mask to present an immediate air of mystery as well as comfort in his own skin. Watch this “masked singer’s” audition above, an excellent rendition of Billie Eilish‘s “idontwannabeyouanymore.”
Sheldon was so set on remaining mysterious to the judges that he did not address Simon’s questions, and instead went right into the song. Based on their expressions, the judges were in awe of his talent and especially the sense of wonder it had encouraged in them. After singing, Sheldon did open up to the judges and explained his way of things so clearly.

Tuesday’s episode of America’s Got Talent brought the Season 15 auditions to a close, though it took a bit of flexibility — and a strong wifi connection — to reach the finish line.
The two-hour event began normally — the new normal, anyway — with a string of acts auditioning for the judges’ panel, sans the usual audience. (Darn you, coronavirus!)
