Exclusive: Lightning Entertainment has acquired international rights to Avi Nesher’s Contemporary World Cinema selection The Wonders, set to premiere on Sunday (8).
The fantastical comedic mystery centres on a slacker who becomes embroiled in a conspiracy involving bearded kidnappers, a hard-boiled investigator and a mysterious woman.
Starring Ori Hizkiah, Adir Miller, Yehuda Levi, and Yuval Scharf star in the Jerusalem-set film, described as being in the vein of the Coen Brothers and Woody Allen.
Lightning’s acquisitions and sales consultant Richard S Guardian brokered the deal with Ronna Wallace of Eastgate Pictures who represents North American rights. United King released in Israel over the summer.
Nesher, whose credits include The Secrets, The Matchmaker and Doppelganger, reunites with frequent collaborators and Israeli producers Leon Edery, Moshe Edery and David Silber.
