Disney and Marvel have officially begun development on the hotly anticipated “Captain Marvel” follow-up. The 2019 blockbuster starred Brie Larson as ex-u.S. airforce fighter pilot Carol Danvers in the McU’s first solo female superhero movie. “Captain Marvel” earned the studio over one billion dollars in profit worldwide, proving that women can lead major box office successes. According to Deadline, Marvel is eyeing a 2022 release for the sequel, tentatively known as “Captain Marvel 2.”
Marvel has tapped relatively unknown writer Megan McDonnell to pen the screenplay. McDonnell’s only previous credit is the forthcoming Disney+ series “WandaVision,” a brand new McU series starring Paul Bettany, Kat Dennings, Kathryn Hahn, and Marvel regular Elizabeth Olsen.
