Paramount has set “Star Trek: Discovery” writer and consulting producer Kalinda Vazquez to write a new untitled “Star Trek” movie, according to an individual with knowledge of the project.
J.J. Abrams will produce the project via his Bad Robot banner.
The blind deal is for an original movie that Vazquez pitched, though details about the project are being kept under wraps. Of note, Vazquez got her birth name from the original “Star Trek” television show — she was named after the character Kelinda from the 1968 Season 2 episode “By Any Other Name.”
The untitled Vazquez project comes after Paramount pumped the brakes on Noah Hawley’s “Star Trek” movie last August, as well as another project that was being hatched by Quentin Tarantino.
