At the age of 15, disguised with a false beard and with a fake ID and $15, William Forsche ran away from his Wisconsin home and hitchhiked to Hollywood. Forsche soon found work at Universal Studios Tour. It was there he met make-up artist David B. Miller who gave him insights to the business and a great deal of encouragement. At the age of 17, Forsche came home to Wisconsin to visit his family which led to work with Wisconsin director Bill Rebane. Forsche then went to New York and met with Dick Smith whom he had been corresponding with since he was 14. He provided fatherly advice, career encouragement and guidance. Forsche went back to Hollywood to continue his special effects make-up, and sculpting career. Forsche had also had on-camera roles, including a werewolf in Howling IV: The Original Nightmare (1988).- Velma Connor and her identical twin sister, Thelma, started their careers on stage when they signed a singing contract with Gus Edwards in 1921. They toured the country with the Gus Edwards Revue until they soon caught the attention of the renowned Florence Zeigfeld. A new contract was signed and the twins headed to New York where they received some of the top billing at the Amsterdam Theatre for The Ziegfeld Follies 1922. They remained with the Follies through 1926. Throughout their stage career they worked with many great performers including Will Rogers, Gallagher and Shean, Gilda Gray, Fannie Brice, Sofie Tucker, and Bing Crosby. Many of the songs they performed were written especially for them by legendary writers including Cole Porter and Irving Berlin.
The twins left the theatre after the 1926 Follies ended. Each took their careers a different direction. Thelma continued her singing thru radio. She had her own broadcast show in New York.
Velma turned to motion pictures. She signed a contract with Universal Pictures and filmed dozens of silent westerns with cowboy stars Art Acord, Fred Hume, Jack Hoxie, Hoot Gibson, and Harry Carey. Art Acord nick-named her "Mickey", and that name stuck with her thru her family and closest friends for the rest of her life. After her contract ended with Universal, she signed with MGM. There she had the opportunity to work with legends Jean Harlow, William Powell, Rosalind Russell, Mickey Rooney, and Benny Rubin. Velma became well known and liked in Hollywood's circle. She made life-lasting friends with Jack and Flo Haley, Ray Bolger, Lurene Tuttle, the Duncan Sisters, Arthur Lake and Penny Singleton.
The twins returned to the stage in 1944. This time it was for a select audience. They were contracted under the William Morris Agency by Abe Lastfogel to appear for Camp Shows, Inc. with the USO. Their assignments were mostly in the hospitals for the wounded. After one of their performances, a nurse stopped them as they were leaving to thank them and to let them know that their beautiful singing voices had profoundly affected one of their patients. He had been unresponsive until that day. She thanked the twins for "bringing him back".
Velma officially retired as an actress in 1947, but she never left what she fondly referred to as "the business"! She remained in the industry through her active memberships with The Ziegfeld Club, Inc., Screen Actors Guild, and serving as a Board Member for the Film Welfare League.
Velma died on July 19, 1987 in Los Angeles. She was 82 years old. - Actress

Mildred Boyd is another unsung black performer and actress who goes uncredited in the history of entertainment and movie history, though she has contributed her talent and beauty to many films, some where she had gone uncredited, her warm presence was always a contribution to any film. Mildred was born in Tennessee and came to Los Angeles, California either during her teens or early 20s where she became a chorus girl at one of the premier black nightclubs on the West Coast, The Sebastian's Cotton Club, where she danced for many years and on the side she did movie work. Like girls of all races, pretty Mildred wanted to be in pictures, with the few roles offered to blacks being that of maids, Mildred played maid roles but played those roles with dignity, offering other admirable characteristics to the roles like her beauty, charm, and refinement, not only did she play maid roles, she contributed her dancing talents to Hollywood films that had black musical numbers and she danced as well in L.A. Black Cinema/Race films that had musical numbers and also doubled as an extra in those films. In some of the race films Mildred got a chance to really act where she proved herself a classy, demure actress without the maid costume. In the mid-1940s, she performed in quite a few soundies, she also starred in a soundie dancing with another female partner titled "Mildred and Bow" where Mildred showed her boogie talent. There were a few Hollywood films, such as "I Love a Bandleader" and film noir classic "Out of the Past" where Mildred got a chance to come out of the maid roles and give impressive performances as a true actress playing someone from all walks of life.
In the 1950s, Mildred retired from show business and along with it overlooked and forgotten in the field of entertainment, Golden Era Cinema, and black entertainment history. - Michael C. She attended high school in Aspen. When Freytag and a crew was in town doing a piece called "The Women of Aspen" in 1983, they saw Marilyn hitchhiking by the side of the road in the winter. Somehow she slipped into that audition at forty nine years old. Today, the highlight of her acting career is still playing opposite Gene Simmons in the film Extract: But back in 1988, the NFL teams never hired her. Her consolation was that she took herself on an Stadium Tour with the rock band Scorpions. Marilyn became a mobile vendor and sold removable tattoos to the patrons on the road. So in '95 she moved to Monrovia, and began working as an extra whenever she could and has appeared in over 600 television and film productions, to date...Once she arrived in LA. she thought it would motivate her to get her SAG card if she located her shoe shine business in the foyer of Marie Callender's restaurant, right next door to the Screen Actor's Guild headquarters on Wilshire Boulevard. After a years time, that did not workout so well. That stunt may have even backfired on her. Marilyn may have gained some weight but she also developed an uncanny knowledge of Calendar's delicious pies. CBS has forked over half a million dollars to her in free prizes as her backup plan truly did workout. She studied game shows and after cartwheeling her way into the Drew Carey hosted TPIR she got her Sag card the next week on Andy Fickmans new Race to Witch Mountain by being booked as a western dancer. Giuseppe Ralph Janni, was born in Milan. His paternal grandfather was from Trieste (originally under Austrian rule but later reverted back to Italy) and was Chairman of Lloyd Triestino, specialising in shipping to India, and his grandmother was English. Janni's father, Rudi, was born in Rangoon in Burma and Janni's mother, Natalia, was Italian from a Milanese Jewish family.
Janni grew up during the years of Mussolini's rise to power. After leaving school,Janni attended the Milan Politecnico to study industrial engineering, but later switched to civil engineering. It was while Janni was a student in Milan that he first became seriously interested in films. He joined a university cine-club and worked on a co-operative amateur film venture. Each year Italian universities organised an annual Littoriali dello cultura competition sponsored by the Ministry of Education. One of the categories was film-making. With no money or sponsorship he set about finding a subject, script and actors for their project E Arrivato quel Signore (A Gentleman has Arrived). Some of his contemporaries, who went on to become successful in the Italian film industry, such as 'Renato Castellani' (who was a close friend), 'Luigi Comencini' and 'Nino Rota' attended the same university. Janni's film was completed and entered for the competition at the end of 1938. The judging took place in Venice and the film won first prize receiving the Scudetto D'Oro (golden shield). The euphoria as a result of this was to be short-lived. The film was disqualified because he was Jewish, due to the the Manifesto of racial laws introduced in November 1938. Finishing his degree in 1939, Janni discovered that he was also unable to receive his degree because he was 'of the Jewish race'.
As the situation deteriorated in Italy, Janni, together with his mother, (Janni's father, who had suffered ill health for many years, died in 1938) and uncle left Italy making their way to England, where they settled in Manchester. A few days after he had arrived, on 3 September 1939 Britain and France declared war on Germany. Janni did some work for the Ministry of Information writing satirical poems and humorous sketches against Fascism. Through an old friend of his Grandfather, Janni received an introduction to the film producer, 'John Sutro'. However, his brief introduction to the British film world was soon cut short as war between Italy and the Allies was declared and he became an enemy alien. Janni was taken to the Metropole camp on the Isle of Man. Following his release from internment in December 1940, he returned to London where he reacquainted himself with the contacts made in the film industry shortly after he had arrived in England.
Janni got his real introduction to the British film industry in 1941 by becoming an assistant to John Sutro who had his own production company, Ortus Films. Sutro was the production manager for the Powell and Pressburger film 49th Parallel (1941) and although it is not clear what role Janni had on this film, it is recorded that this was the first film that he was involved with. He later became assistant producer to 'John Corfield' and was associated with the production of He Found a Star (1941) a musical, and _Headlines (1943)_ a crime thriller. He set up his own production company, Vic Films in 1948 and his first film _A Glass Mountain (1949)_, was bases on an original idea of his with the music written by Nino Rota. It was a box-office success and one of the few films to be re-issued twice.
During his early film career he worked with the directors, 'Pat Jackson', White Corridors (1951) and Something Money Can't Buy (1952); 'Mario Camerini', _Honeymoon Deferred (1951)_; Renato Castellani, Romeo and Juliet (1954) and 'Jack Lee', _A Town Like Alice (1956)_, Robbery Under Arms (1957) and _The Captain's Table (1959)_. Although Janni's most important contribution to the British film industry was not made until 1962, when he teamed up with 'John Schlesinger' to make A Kind of Loving (1962) and the British 'New Wave' was well underway, it is his early years that helped shape his future role in the industry. As an 'Italian in the English School' his cultural background, early film training in Italy and the traumas of war all contributed to his passion for making 'realist' films.- Actor

- James Richard Mastin was an American sculptor and painter, best known for his emotionally charged public monuments of life-sized bronze figures commemorating significant historical events and individuals. The hallmark of his work was meticulous craftsmanship and emotional communication with the viewers.
His most recognized public works are the Bahamian National Monument, "Loyalist Memorial Sculpture Garden" in Green Turtle Cay, The Bahamas, the "Key West Historical Memorial Sculpture Garden" in Key West, Florida, and "Les Chausseurs Volontaires" (commemorating The Siege of Savannah) in Savannah, Georgia.
The Loyalist Memorial Sculpture Garden was declared a national monument of The Bahamas. It consists of a central monument depicting two Loyalist women arriving in The Bahamas surrounded by 24 busts of descendants of Loyalist families. The Loyalists were those individuals who remained loyal to the British Crown after the American war of independence in 1776. Many Loyalists in the northern American colonies fled to Canada, while Loyalists in the more southern American colonies fled to the islands of the Bahamas with their slaves. The Loyalist Memorial Sculpture Garden was commissioned by the Historical Society of Green Turtle Cay.
The Key West Historical Memorial Sculpture Garden was commissioned by the Friends of Mallory Square, Key West. Its central monument, "The Wreckers" pays tribute to the brave men engaged in salvage operations that made Key West the richest city on the east coast of the United States south of New York in the nineteenth century.
Les Chausseurs Volontaires ("Siege of Savannah") was commissioned by the Haitian American Historical Society[6] and the City of Savannah, and commemorates the free Haitian soldiers who successfully fought in the American Revolution in 1776 alongside the American colonial army in Savannah, Georgia to assist in the American efforts towards independence from Great Britain. The drummer boy depicted in the monument was a young Henri Christophe, who became one of the original leaders of the Haitian government, after Haiti obtained its independence from France.
James Mastin was a classically trained artist, with degrees from Pasadena City College, the Art Center of Los Angeles, the Los Angeles County Art Institute, the Chouinard Art Institute, and studied under Sergei Bongart, as well as the Massachusetts Conservatory of Art and Music. He originally pursued an acting career and sold his artwork to support his acting and voice studies. In the 1960s he opened a commercial art studio in California, which he sold in order to travel through the American Southwest in his motor home, painting portraits of Native Americans. He began sculpting primarily working in clay and wax, as well as plaster and resins, and moved to Miami, Florida where he opened his permanent art studio, James Mastin Galleries. He remained in Miami until his death.
Mastin's body of monumental, public works were heroic figurative pieces full of emotion, which he sculpted in clay, casting his pieces in bronze using the ancient lost wax method of casting, finishing them with a chemical patina to add color and protect the pieces from the elements. Hugues Gentillon was born, raised, and completed high school in Haiti. He was further educated in the USA and in Europe. He is a physician-scientist and an entrepreneurial filmmaker.
So far as his career in cinema is concerned, Gentillon is a relative latecomer to filmmaking. His primary higher education is in medical sciences. Gentillon became known for his fast-paced blockbuster MFA thesis film Love Me Haiti, as well as his distinctive style of directing - So exceptional, unique and distinctive is Gentillon's style and techniques that he is numerously nominated and invited to film events and his directorial calling-card Love Me Haiti is repeatedly featured in the world's press. In fact, so remarkable and original, Gentillon rapidly won international acclaim following his collection of Haiti's Academy Award for best fictional film!
Gentillon's MFA thesis, Love Me Haiti, is a self-consciousness-perspectival, reflective, and interpersonal film. Although the story is set in Haiti, it mirrors a situation that continues to take place in so many countries, especially in the developing world... Gentillon's masterpiece takes on an emotional and challenging topic - Love and Hate - the film fosters an informed and rational dialogue on the issue. Seven years in the making, his adapted screenplay was conceived at the New York Film Academy and assembled at the Academy of Art University, then traveled the festival circuit, and garnered many prestigious screenings and accolades worldwide. Love Me Haiti officially premiered at the 2014 Marché du Film, organized by the Festival de Cannes, the most prestigious and publicized film festival in the world. Gentillon's distinctive creation has been subsequently screened at numerous international film festivals.
In 1999, Gentillon earned Associate in Art degree in medical sciences, with honors and distinction, from Miami Dade College, and he was awarded a full scholarship to attend the University of Florida, known as the "Harvard of the South". In Miami, his school adviser and colleagues discouraged him to go there because of xenophobia and the Gainesville Ripper serial killings of students in the early 1990s. Despite the warnings, Gentillon accepted the scholarship and 3 years later completed a Bachelor of Science degree in microbiology and cell science from the University of Florida. While studying there, he worked as an assistant in various private and US government sponsored research projects at the University of Florida. The acquired experience later helped him get a job at a Coca Cola laboratory. Then he studied podiatric medicine for 2 years at Barry University. He abandoned the DPM degree and then switched to allopathic medicine in Europe, where he completed his MD degree.
In the medical field, Gentillon did research in computational image analysis and radiological science. He collaborated with the Medical University of Lodz radiology department and the Technical University of Lodz radio-electronics department. His PhD project aims at developing computer-aided diagnostic methods to assist radiologist in making more objective interpretation of ultrasound and magnetic resonance pictures of fetal brain. It was during his medical studies in Europe that he became attracted to neuroradiology.
While studying medicine, Gentillon wrote lyrics and collaborated with musicians in the USA and UK. Nevertheless, he was more attracted to filmmaking. As a result, he parallelly studied acting at the New York Film Academy and motion pictures and television at the Academy of Art University (AAU). He managed to complete his MD degree in 2011 and his MFA in 2013. Although his MFA thesis titled "Love Me Haiti" focuses on directing, he was trained equally in screenwriting, directing and producing. The AAU program that he completed prepares students seeking a professional career in the film and television industries as a writer, producer, or director.
Hugues Gentillon is inspired by other doctor-artist hybrids in the history of medicine. During his education, Gentillon did not let his advisers make him settle for one or the other - when he can do both!
