Physically unsuited to life in ballet, Mantha stepped away from the stage and trained in hairdressing and beauty therapy but felt unfulfilled by the work. By age 21 she had moved to live in Canterbury with her mother and age 24 became pregnant, she gave birth to a daughter in May 1998. All thoughts of a career were put on hold to be a full-time mother but in 2014 Mantha looked again at the possibility of a career in the arts. - Music Department

Born in Canterbury in the South Island in 1956, he studied zoology and botany at the University of Canterbury and resource management at Lincoln College before taking up a teaching position at Lincoln. He later completed a masters in economics at Montana State University. From 1993, Hide worked as an economist in Auckland before entering politics with the new ACT Party.
