Bob Grant was trained at Rada after spending some time as a Lieutenant with the Royal Artillery. He plied his trade to begin with in Repertory and appeared on stage for many years all around the UK. His work in rep continued up to the mid-90s. He will be best remembered for his role of Jack Harper, the cheeky bus conductor with his traditional cigarette, cheeky laugh and his passion for the ladies and, of course, winding up old Blakey, the Inspector in On the Buses (1969). On the Buses was a huge success for Bob and his co-star, Reg Varney, running from 1969 to 1973 with 76 episodes and 3 spin-off films. It sold in 38 countries and is a great tribute to his comedy acting talents. In 1971 his popularity proved a little too much as his wedding to Kim was attended by hundreds of fans and it meant that everyone had to walk to the wedding! Famous other roles included Sparrows Can't Sing (1963) and Mrs. Wilson's Diary (1969). He toured Australia, starring in 'No Sex please we're British'. He also appeared on stage in musicals and pantomime. Sadly, he suffered from a depressive illness for a number of years and was found dead in his car in Gloucestershire on November 8th 2003. He was one of the most influential figures in British television. He was head of BBC Television Drama from 1969-81. He was responsible for such groundbreaking productions as Dennis Potter's "Pennies From Heaven" and "Brimstone and Treacle" as well as "I, Claudius," "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy" and classic serials including "The Six Wives of Henry VIII," and "Testament of Youth."
As a director, he worked on detective series such as "Z Cars" and the costume drama "The Forsyte Saga," the most acclaimed BBC series of the sixties. In 1981, he was appointed executive producer of the BBC Shakespeare series, in which all 37 plays were adapted for television.
He was born Shaun Alfred Graham Sutton in Hammersmith, London, England to theatrical parents. He studied drama at the Embassy School. He worked as an actor in several London shows before the outbreak of World War II.
He served in the Royal Navy in 1940 and after the war, he returned to acting. He joined the BBC in 1952 working on mainly children's comedies and in 1962 became one of the original directors for the then new series "Z Cars."
In 1966, he became head of serials for the BBC, responsible for a huge output of high quality drama including "The Forsyte Saga." The 1967 serial put BBC2 on the map, attracting six million viewers on Sunday evenings and was repeated a year later on BBC1, gaining an audience of 18 million. It was the first serial ever to be sold to the Soviet Union and was purchased by stations all over America. The series confirmed the BBC's reputation for costume dramas and spawned a host of clones like "The First Churchills" and "The Pallisers."
In 1969, he was promoted to head of drama in an era which was later to be described as the golden age of British television drama. Under his auspices at the BBC. he produced more than 120 plays annually by writers including Joe Orton, David Storey and Sir Alan Ayckbourn. He championed controversial productions such as the prison drama "Scum" and several of Dennis Potter's plays.
With Cedric Messina and Jonathan Miller, he was executive producer of the 1978-85 BBC Shakespeare anthology, which starred actors such as Sir Anthony Hopkins, Sir Derek Jacobi, Timothy West CBE and Sir John Gielgud. When the Shakespeare cycle was completed, he worked on Theatre Night, a BBC2 season of six plays a year adapted from the stage.

British bit player Walter Henry was born Israel W. Nagelkop on October 24, 1921 in Hammersmith, London, England. Henry initially worked as a film publicist prior to embarking on a career as an extra in the late 1940's. A brawny man with a rugged face, close-cropped hair, and a strong build, Walter could be often spotted in various movies and TV shows as thugs, soldiers, or police officers. Henry died at age 83 on February 21, 2005 in Edgware, Middlesex, England.- Ursula Howells was educated at St Paul's Girls' School in London, where her father Herbert Howells, a doyen of English church music taught music for 26 years. She made an impression as Frances Forsyte (the first of Young Jo's three wives) in the BBC's 1967 television adaptation of John Galsworthy's The Forsyte Saga (1967). She became a regular feature in television comedy and drama, ranging from Father, Dear Father (1968) and A Rather English Marriage (1998) to The Cazalets (2001).
Her television credits also included playing a psychopath Lettie Blacklock in Miss Marple: A Murder Is Announced (1985). She also appeared in Sins of the Fathers (1985) and Warriors (1991), Somewhere - Over the Rainbow? (1994), Vigilante (1995) and The Electric Vendetta (2001).
She instigated the "Herbert Howells Society" following her father's death in 1983 and became a standard bearer for the promotion of his work. She financially supported the recording of his compositions and did much to encourage the publishing and promotion of church music.
She was married twice. Following a brief first marriage to Davy Dodd in 1949, she remarried in 1968 to the theatre director Anthony Pelissier . She was widowed in 1988 and moved to Petworth in Sussex. Although she had no children of her own, she was a loving stepmother to her husband's son and three daughters who survived her. - Actress
