- Marie Schmidt was born Marie Borgia Slyker in Detroit, Michigan on June 16, 1918 to Francis and Loretta (Lawson) Slyker. Marie cultivated countless lifelong relationships during childhood, at college, during her professional life, and in her work as a volunteer. She was schooled at St Mary's, in Detroit, Michigan, and graduated with both a B.S. in Science and a teaching credential from St Joseph's college in Emmitsburg, Maryland. She later received an associate degree in library technology from Fullerton College, in Fullerton, California.
Marie married Frederick William Schmidt II on June 21, 1941. They settled for a time in New Jersey, where their first five children were born. In 1951 Fred received an attractive job offer in California, so the family moved to Whittier, California, where the rest of the children were born. In 1966 the family moved to Placentia, Californis, where Marie resided the rest of her life. She stayed in constant contact with her fellow St Joseph's Alumni. As the children grew in southern California, Marie worked as a clerk in department stores, and as the children matured, she began a second career selling newspaper advertising. In this capacity she made and benefited from friendships that lasted well beyond her professional life.
Marie later joined the Placentia Historical Society, the Yorba Linda Historical Society and the Placentia Library District Historical Committee, and functioned as a docent for the Bradford House. To say Marie was an active volunteer for the City of Placentia and great source of knowledge regarding local history is an understatement. She truly loved her volunteer work, and loved the friends she made and the accomplishments they all shared. Marie was a devout member of St Joseph's Catholic Church in Placentia for nearly 50 years. She was an excellent seamstress, enjoyed collecting dolls and rousing game of Scrabble. Her friends meant a great deal to her. A usual night for Marie was one spent talking on the phone to a fellow Placentia volunteer or a to friend from college "back East."
Marie was considered a "historical volunteer extraordinaire", and her work over the years was repeatedly recognized by Placentia's city council. It was in late 2011 that Marie officially retired from her volunteer work at the Placentia Public Library's History Room, which she, along with friends and associates Pat Irot and Pat Jertberg, created in 1991. In January 2012, the trio were officially recognized by the Placentia city council for their 20+ years of work founding and maintaining the History Room. Marie was also a former chairperson and an emeritus member of the Placentia Historical Society, as well as being an active member of the Orange County Historical Society, the Yorba Linda Historical Society and the Placentia Library District Historical Committee. Her other volunteer works included the Placentia Round Table Club, Cub Scouts, Girls Scouts, and School Parents Clubs of California. She was a docent at the historic Bradford House, and continued docent work there even after retirement from the History Room. She was considered one of the most productive volunteers in local history, and the the Placentia Library's History Room remains as a testament to her work in the field of preserving the city's history for future generations.
By 94, Marie had survived her husband Frederick (who himself passed on October 1, 1998), her parents, her four brothers and four sisters-in-law (Francis and Helen, Charles and Lucile, Jack and Eleanor and Bob and Kay), her three older children, Barbara Emma, Frederick William III and Roderick Lawson, and granddaughters Deanna Marie and Breanna Barbara(who had passed when in their infancy). Marie is survived by her children, Robert Paul, David Glenn, Michael Quentin, Patricia Marie and Diane Lucile, ten grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins across the country.
After two months of illness, Marie passed away comfortably in her sleep on October 1, 2012 at the age of 94. - Costume and Wardrobe Department

- Matthew Fisher was born and raised in the Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA. Matthew was not introduced to piano at the age of 4, he never took piano lessons growing up, and he never really had an interest in music until he was about 16 years old.
At age 16, Matthew wanted to be in a band so bad that he started tinkering on the piano at his house. He soon found that he could play songs he heard by ear. Matthew was excited and started imitating any and every song he heard.
During Matthew's first year in college, his mom overheard a piano song he was playing. She told him she really loved what he was playing. This was the very first time he heard someone say that they really enjoyed what he was playing. It was at that point Matthew knew he wanted to make a piano album and start taking his music to the next level.
Over the course of the following year Matthew worked on making his own solo piano music almost every day. He also played keyboard for a instrumental band named Mancub. Mancub broke up several months after Matthew joined, which gave Matthew more time to focus on releasing his solo piano album. On December 28, 2009 Matthew Fisher's solo piano album "Home Is Ahead... The World Behind", which was inspired by a Christian viewpoint on life, was released independently.
In March 2011 Johnny Pease, a band member Matthew met in Mancub, asked Matthew to compose the score for a student short film by Full Sail University named "Field of Honor". Although Matthew was unfamiliar with composing for film he agreed to compose the score and finished the whole score in one week! - Joseph T. Michael Masley, American instrumentalist and composer; b. Trenton, Michigan, September 22, 1952. He studied creative writing at Northwestern Michigan College (1970-72); in 1973 began working with hammered dulcimer player Bob Spinner, who became a mentor. He played using traditional 2-hammer technique until 1979; during months at a fishing lodge in northern Michigan, he developed a 10-fingered "finger-hammer" technique. In 1982 he engaged the dulcimer maker William Webster of Detroit to make him a cymbalom (a large chromatic concert dulcimer); he added violin bows to the finger hammers in 1983, creating his unique "bowhammers." In 1982 he moved to Palo Alto, California, where he met guitarist Barry Cleveland (1983); they performed as the duo Thin Ice, releasing the recordings Thin Ice Live (1984) and 1st Frost (1985); he also played on Cleveland's later albums, Mythos (1986) and Voluntary Dreaming (1990); moved to Berkeley, California in 1985. His own recordings include Cymbalom Solos (1985), The Moment's River (1987), Bells & Shadows (1989), and Mystery Loves Company (1990). His innovative cymbalom technique enables the player to strike, bow, or pluck notes with all 10 fingers in any combination. The resulting timbral distinctions are used to create unuaually complex contrapuntal textures for a solo instrument, to which he often adds pitched and tunable percussion instruments.
Known for the distinctive "bowhammer" technique that he himself originated, Michael Masely is a master of the cymbalom-a modern orchestral (Hungarian) version of the hammered dulcimer, an instrument that made its debut in Persia as the santour around 2500 years ago. The instrument's trapezoid shape and distinctive sound-which comes from playing the instrument with two hand-held hammers-have been an important part of world history and culture for over two millennia. Masley's innovative technique adds thumbpicks to the traditional playing style, which enables plucking, striking, and bowing of this ancient instrument.
Michael Masley's music has been heard in a diverse array of venues and contexts including original contributions to the soundtrack to Geronimo: An American Legend, on which he worked with guitar legend Ry Cooder. Masley has also recorded with producer and Garbage drummer Butch Vig and appears on the multi-platinum Garbage Version 2.0.
In addition to impressive collaborations, Masley's music has been heard in NFL broadcasts, The 1994 Winter Olympics, Entertainment Tonight, HBO programming, and most recently-in Martin Yernazian's upcoming documentary, Art Officially Favored by Pyrotecnia Productions. Masley's also been profiled by NPR's All Things Considered where excerpts from his CD, Mystery Repeats Itself, still occasionally surface in their programming. His song "Six White Horses" is featured on the All Songs Considered CD, published by NPR Classics.
Michael is also active politically as "The Artist General", a self-created position (similar to the Surgeon General) he has created to represent the interests of artists in the USA.- Jamal Dunning was born on 13 April 1995 in Detroit, Michigan, USA.
