Déva-Dassy (born as Marie-Anne Lambert) was a French opera and operetta diva, the daughter of Charles Lambert, a French politician in Lyon, and Germaine Pollack, a quite famous pianist. Her stage name came from Edouard Churey and means "The Servant of God" or "The Sacred Dancer". She created a perfume called "Deva-Dassy Perfume", in 1933, in Paris, France. She also was the second female in Paris that created Laya in "Fleurs d'Hawaii" (by the composer Paul Abraham), in which she sang "Ni toi, ni moi" and a duet with Emile Rousseau called "La plus belle perle du monde", where, in return, Max Bussy sang to her "Fleur d'Hawaii". The songs were released by Disque Gramophone k-7096 (50-3376).
She did "La Belle Hélène" and also created Inès in "Farsquita", Violette in "Le Roi Bossu", a Servant in "Tarass Boulba", an Infirmière at la Salle Favart in "La Femme Nue", Charlotte in "Werther", Mignon in "Mignon" and Souzouki in "Madame Butterfly". She was also famous for the song "Dans la vie... tout s'arrange" in the Operetta "Le Sérail en folie" (Music by Marcel d'Anella and lyrics by Albert Bossy & Xavier Mericier). Ernani (Noni) Bernardi was a musician in the big band era, playing lead sax for some of the greats. He is best known for his arrangements of two of the mid-20th century's most popular dance melodies, Benny Goodman's "And the Angels Sing" and Tommy Dorsey's "I'm Getting Sentimental Over You." After his career as a musician he became a successful politician serving on the Los Angeles (CA) City Council. He represented District 7 from 1961 to 1993, making him the second longest serving council member in the history of the city.
Ernani Bernardi was born on October 29, 1911 above a grocery store his family owned in Standard, Illinois. He was the son of musician Alfonso Bernardi and Nerina Biagini. His parents immigrated to America through Ellis Island from a small town in the province of Modena in the Emilia Romagna region of Italy. His mother died in childbirth, and he was raised by his father, two grandmothers, an aunt and an uncle. His father, who traveled as a musician, remarried and when Ernani was eleven he was moved to the nearby town of Toluca, Illinois to be with him. He had two younger half siblings, Rudy and Yolanda. He left home at age seventeen to be a musician.
He married his wife, Lucille May Sawasky of Port Arthur, Ontario, in 1933 whom he met while playing saxophone in a dance band at Detroit's Graystone Ballroom. They lived in Detroit before moving to New York and eventually settling in Los Angeles. They had four children, Joanne Marie, Judith Ann, John Paul and (Ernani) James. In 1939, Ernani appeared with Kay Kyser's orchestra in the film, That's Right, You're Wrong." After his career as a musician, Ernani began his second career as a contractor, building custom homes in Los Angeles before his career as a councilman. Lucille, who suffered from Alzheimer's disease, died in 1993. In 1994 he was given a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Ernani Bernardi remarried in November 2001 to Eve Troutman. Spanish screenwriter. He was born in Tudela in the province of Navarra on January 17, 1911. He attended the Lyceum and Faculty of Law in Zaragoza, from which he graduated with a degree in literature. In 1928 he joined the editorial office of the Zaragoza newspaper "El Noticiero." During the Spanish Civil War, he served as a war correspondent and was wounded while reporting on the conflict. In October 1936, he was appointed director of the San Sebastian newspaper "Unidad." In 1942 he moved to Madrid. He became noted as a theater critic, broadcasting reviews on Radio España. His journalistic quality and the merits of his style earned him the "Sotomayor" (1941) and "Virgen del Carmen" (1943) awards for excellence. He was secretary general of the journalists' trade union (1943-1946) as a specialist in social and economic problems. He was also the holder of the Film Literature chair at the Instituto de Investigaciones y Experiencias Cinematograficas (IIEC), a training center for Spanish filmmakers. As a screenwriter, he received the First Hispano-American Film Festival (1948) award for his adaptation of Cervantes' Don Quixote of La Mancha. He died in Madrid, 26 June 1989.- Long distance runner Eerik Jaakko "Erkki" Tamila was born on May 5, 1911 in Nummi, Finland. Tamila placed fourth in the men's marathon at the 1936 Olympics that were held in Berlin, Germany. In the wake of participating in the 1936 Olympics Erkki went on to win the Stockholm Half Marathon in Stockholm, Sweden three consecutive years in a row. Tamila died at age 92 on February 25, 2004 in Kauniainen, Finland.

- Actor, jazz musician and stand-up comedian Jack LeMaire, who got his start in vaudeville, died Oct. 18 in North Hollywood, Calif., of natural causes. He was 99.
LeMaire toured with Bob Hope and Johnny Grant doing stand-up for USO shows, ending each set with a song on his guitar. His passion for playing occasionally overshadowed his love of comedy, and he can be heard on recordings with the likes of Dizzy Gillespie, who nicknamed LeMaire "Chords."
LeMaire started working vaudeville as a toddler with his father, George, in "The Ziegfeld Follies," and soon moved on to film work, making 33 silent comedies with Pathe.
Among his other credits were 1958 TV series "Mac King," 1959's "The Lawless Years" and "Bat Masterson" plus 1964's "The Farmer's Daughters."
Later in life, LeMaire appeared as Colonel Sanders in a number of KFC advertisements. Just last year, he performed in a sketch on "The Tonight Show" with Jay Leno.
Survivors include a son, two daughters, five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. - Eve Aubrey was born on 27 February 1911 in Liverpool, England, UK.
