- Vil Lipatov was born on 10 April 1927 in Chita, RSFSR, USSR [now Russia]. Vil was a writer, known for Derevenskiy detektiv (1969), Ivan i Kolombina (1975) and Chto mozhno Kuzenkovu? (1980). Vil died on 1 May 1979 in Moscow, RSFSR, USSR [now Russia].
- Erik Olsson was born on 21 September 1892. He was an actor, known for Frk. Møllers jubilæum (1937), Tre må man være (1959) and Dyrlægens plejebørn (1968). He died on 1 May 1979 in Denmark.
- Yves Morin was a French alpinist. He was the first to ski off the top of Annapurna I in 1979, which is one of the "eight-thousander" mountains in the Himalayas in Nepal. Over the course of the 1979 expedition he skied all segments of the descent, but eventually died while descending from the summit on a very steep ice section around 22,300 feet. His ascender got stuck and eventually he died of exhaustion.
Morin was featured in the 1979 documentary film "Annapurna, premier 8000 à ski", directed by Bernard Germain, one of the members of the 1979 expedition (along with Morin and Germain, other members included Dr. Lucien Adenis, Michel Berquet, Jean-Louis George, Henry Sigayret, Benoit Renard and three Sherpas - Dawa Gyalzen, Chawang Rinzee and Dahunga Pemba Lama).
