- Joe Darensbourg was a clarinet player. He played with Kid Ory, Teddy Buckner and Louis Armstrong to name a few. As a young musician he came to California. He played gigs wherever he could get them and appeared in several silent films with these bands.
In 1950 he appeared in a Mahogany Magic with Kid Orey's Creole Jazz Band. In 1961 he appeared with the Louis Armstrong's All Stars in The Good Years of Jazz: Louis Armstrong & The All Stars and in 1962 he appeared in a TV special with the All Stars Winter Carnival in Sun Valley. Also in the mid 60s he did a TV short by the March of Dimes about Louis Armstrong.
In 1958 "Yellow Dog Blues" by Joe Darensbourg and his Dixie Fliers reached number 43 on the pop charts. "Hello Dolly" by the Louis Armstrong All Stars went to number one on the pop charts in 1964. Darensbourg played clarinet on the song.
