Leisha was born Begum Aidah Haydee Leisha Hasan Kazi El-Soukary in Egypt where she lived for several years until her family moved to Austria. When the family relocated to the USA, they lived in Banning, California, where Leisha graduated from the local high school. Inspired by singing star Nancy Wilson, Leisha developed her own vocal talent while recording TV commercials for Diet Pepsi, Levi's, Barbie and Almay. In 1974 she was hired as vocalist in the popular instrumental group The Ventures, with whom she toured Japan. After 3 years with The Ventures, Leisha formed her own group the "Z Factor," for which she composed both lyrics and music. Later on she performed with Arthur Barduhn and Friends and other groups.
