Dobeleit grew up in Weingarten in Upper Swabia. In the 1970s he moved to Neuwied with his parents. Here he found his passion for athletics. As an athlete for TV Wattenscheid, he celebrated his first successes in his youth. In 1983 Norbert Dobeleit was "Junior Athlete of the Year". He took first place in the 4x400 meter relay discipline with a time of 39.25 seconds. In the years 1986 to 1991 he became German champion in the 200, 400 and 4x400 meters. The 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul marked his sporting highlight. In the 4x400 meter relay discipline, Norbert Dobeleit won the Olympic bronze medal with a time of 3:00:66 minutes. In the same year he was awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf.
In 1990 he won the European Championships over 400 meters. Dobeleit then ended his active professional career. He made his debut in sports journalism in 1992 as a presenter at the Olympic Games in Barcelona for DaimlerChrysler / Eurosport. Dobeleit worked as NOK press spokesman for the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta. From 1997 he worked for the renowned advertising agency Saatchi & Saatchi in Frankfurt am Main, where he was responsible for setting up the sports sponsorship department. In 2000 he again became NOK press spokesman for the Olympic Games in Sydney and until 2003 he was a presenter at the private news channel "N24", for which he hosted the programs "N24 Sport" and "Sportmagazin N24".
Meanwhile, Norbert Dobeleit also became editorial director for sports at Pro7 and N24 from 1999 to 2003. As an entrepreneur, he co-founded the agency "lucky7even Entertainment GmbH" based in Munich in 2004 with Jo Failer and Tim Ockert. In PR projects, the agency supports premium brands at international events. From August 2004 to August 2005 he was the chief sports news anchor for the Sat.1 News program. Norbert Dobeleit became known to a large audience through his moderation of the trend format "BiZZ" on Pro7. He accompanied the show from September 2005 to June 2006. From summer 2006 to summer 2007, Norbert Dobeleit was the chief presenter of the private Bundesliga broadcaster "Arena", which sublicensed the Bundesliga rights to Premiere in the summer of 2007.
