- In this long-running Dutch animation series, Mr. Owl reads from the Fabeltjeskrant (Dutch for "Fables newspaper") it's named after the links between the scenes which show various animals (each has a first name and the species name) who live in a wood in partially stereotypical, partially human-like interaction. Major characters include Mrs. Stork, the self-proclaimed posh de facto-mayor, her sycophantic messenger Zoef the Hare, the brothers Beaver who construct about everything and the ever-scheming Lowieke the Fox; their are many minor ones.

- Merle is nine and she's Bro's elder sister, and Bro is a real pain. He's mad about kissing. Especially in order to annoy Merle, who feels that all this kiss-kissing is way out of line. Not to mention the way everyone keeps going on about it. As if it was something special. But then a boy of her age moves into a flat on her staircase. Nik has a muscle disease and is in a wheelchair. So while there are many activities that they cannot share, their bond is strong. For example, while playing war with friends in the street, his little brother is not a sniper - you have to run for that - but Nik acts as the tank. He also turns out to be a great keeper, a gifted fisherman and the best spinner. This loving story about two super close brothers shows that you can play just fine with someone who can do a little less.

He gets a lift from Reinier. During breakfast, the family Quant, who just arrived in the area, receive a phone call. A colleague of Ingmar has got the mumps and he has to take over the ad-campaign for a new soft drink: Poeff. A simple assignment, which will only cost him one day! In the woods a Mercedes stops and a man with a hooked nose and yellow eyes steps out and seems to wait for something or someone. Wilbur Quant also rides through the woods on his horse and meets Aristides Quarles van Ispen by accident. They immediately become friends. Aristides is a keen photographer. Aristides suddenly sees a woodpecker in a tree further on and wants to take a picture, but he has to steady his camera on something first. In the end they decide that Wilbur will make the photo, standing on Aristides his hands and leaning against a tree. Aristides looses his balance and grip and they both fall. Wilbur accidentally takes a picture during his fall. At home they develop this picture just to see what's on it. To their astonishment they vaguely see a dead or unconscious man being dragged away. When they show the picture to Aristides his grandfather, Reinier, he recognizes the man. It's the same man he gave a lift to earlier that day and didn't say a word the whole way.
- Berthe and Eduard Bennebroeck are dismayed to learn that some children have been asking questions about the medicine they requested at the drugstore. Wilbur and Aristide's fathers finally meet each other and Juultje tries to cheer up shy André. The investigating Q's find Van Slingelandt's car parked at the Hotel Schoon Runkum. But soon afterward Zaneck picks up the Citroën and has it demolished.
- During the garden party at the Quarles van Ispen house, Aristides and Wilbur borrow the Pies' walkie talkies and head over to Bennebroeck's old mill. However, Zaneck also aims to take advantage of the busy household and search for the ring in Aristides' room.
- Now both Q boys have been captured by Zaneck and the Bennebroecks. Berthe cannot stand taking care of the increasingly ill (yet still clinging on to life) Anthony van Slingelandt. She calls Charles Quarles van Ispen, the surgeon about his son and forces him to take a look at Anthony.
- Juultje learns from André that Bennebroeck is proficient at making tiny technical gadgets. For instance he helped André make a pair of walkie talkies for him and his father. Grandpa spots the man with the white raincoat who's been following him at the Runkum hotel.
- The plot begins to unravel as André and Juultje have figured out the purpose of the all important ring and the man in the white raincoat closes in on Alex Zaneck. Meanwhile, both the Q boys and Aristides father Charles find themselves unable to leave the Bennebroeck household.
- Grandpa wants to buy the Old Mill. But Farner Zwartjes gets greedy after receiving a cash offer from current resident Ed Bennebroeck and raises his price. Aristides has seen a portrait of the missing Van Slingelandt at the Bennebroeck place. Grandpa visits Van Slingelandt's landlady and finds himself being shadowed by a man in a white raincoat.
