- Three jailed convicts, Himmat, his brother Ajit, and Dilawar Khan break out of prison and take over the household of Editor Ashok Rai. The convicts will continue to hold the family hostage until their associate, Kamini contacts them in person.
- Kalyani lives in a small tenement with three sons, Vijay, Nandu, and Bhola, all of whom are unemployed, slackers and trouble-makers. One day Nandu gets into serious trouble with Shantilal, who summons the police, and has him arrested. Kalyani goes to the Police Station to plead with the In-Charge Officer to release Nandu, to no avail. She then goes to Shantilal to try to persuade him to withdraw the charges, also to no avail. Finally, she approaches Jagannath and tells him that Nandu is actually his biological son. After listening to her story, Jagannath believes her and accompanies her to the Police Station to bail Nandu out. The next day Jagannath comes to take Nandu to live with him in his palatial bungalow, and Deviyani, Vijay and Bhola bid him a tearful farewell. After settling down in his new surroundings, Nandu starts getting arrogant, and selfish, especially toward Vijay. Vijay and he break into fisticuffs, and Nandu warns Vijay not to set foot in his house. When Jagannath finds out, he tries to get Nandu to change his arrogant ways, to no avail. On the contrary Nandu threatens to kill him if he ever speaks in that tone of voice with him. The next night, Jaganath is shot dead. The police begin questioning everyone involved, and the obvious suspect is Nandu. It is then Deviyani tells Vijay and Bhola that Nandu is not really Jagannath's son, but her very own flesh and blood. Both Vijay and Bhola's world will never be the same after Deviyani tells them who the real son of Jaganath is, and who may have responsible for killing Jagannath.

She is elected and goes on to have a fulfilling life.

Situations change Badal and he decides to reveal his true identity to the Singhs who also promises to re-unite the family with their son, Chimpoo.

They are tragically separated. He subsequently comes across a portrait of Ratna, and shortly after he meets a gypsy, Jhumri (also Hema Malini) who looks exactly like Ratna. Soon Jhumri is also able to recollect her past life, and her love for Prakash. This does not auger well with Rita Malhotra (Asha Sachdev) who loves Suraj, and Appa (Prem Chopra), the son of the leader of the gypsies (Madan Puri), who will not stop at anything to make Jhumri his wife. Appa steals the portrait, and instigates the gypsies against Suraj, so that he can marry Jhumri, and perhaps separate the two lovers again in this birth also.

- A man (Amitabh Bachchan) is found wounded on railway tracks and when he awakens he has no memory of who he is and doesn't remember anything about his life. In flashbacks he remembers that his real name is Amit Roy and Ranjit was the one who attempted to kill him six years earlier by throwing him off the train he was traveling on with Rekha. Amit also discovers that his young son who is now 10 years old has been sent to a boarding school and sets out a plan to regain custody of his son. First however he plans on taking revenge against Ranjit. Amit comes up with a plan to re-enter Rekha and Ranjit's lives by disguising himself as a film producer. He meets with Rekha and Ranjit and offers Rekha the opportunity to act in his new film titled Do Anjaane. Rekha and Ranjit grow suspicious of Naresh Dutt as they start to realize that he bears a striking resemblance to Rekha's supposedly deceased husband Amit Roy and the storyline of his film eerily mirrors Rekha's past life. Will she discover the true identity of Naresh Dutt? and what revenge has Amit/Naresh got planned for Ranjit?
- Vinod Joshi lives a middle-class existence with his wife, Meena, and a young son. He would like to improve upon his living conditions and ensure that his child enjoys life thoroughly. One day Vinod returns home in a bloodied state, and tells Meena that there has been a homicide at his place of work, and a large amount of money has been stolen. The police are called in to to investigate, and as a result a fellow-employee by the name of Subramaniam is arrested and sentenced to jail. Then the Joshi family gets wealthy all of a sudden, and move to a different and more spacious location, and start enjoying their lives to the fullest. Meena finds out that another co-worker of Vinod's, Maan Singh, has been telling people that Vinod was the one who stole the money, and also killed the employee in the process. Meena goes to meet Maan Singh to confirm this, and he does so, and even writes a letter to her to that effect, and threatens to inform the police. When Meena confronts Vinod, he vehemently denies ever stealing nor killing anyone, but has no explanation to offer for their new-found wealth. As Meena attempts to trace the origin of this wealth, and gets more and more convinced about his guilt, she and Vinod finds themselves growing further apart from each other, and Meena coming to the shocking conclusion that she has been sleeping with someone who may have killed another human being. Then Maan Singh's girlfriend, Rosita, is killed. The police find Vinod's fingerprints on the knife. Upon seeing the police, Vinod asks Meena to get ready to run, which they do, with the police in hot chase after them. How long will Vinod continue to elude the police, and did he really commit those murders?

Shortly thereafter his mother passes away, and Jeeva decides to avenge her death by bringing about the downfall of Jaswant Singh. In order to do this, he becomes a dacait. Jeeva swears on the holy river Ganga to wipe out Jaswant Singh and his men, without knowing his decision will bring him into conflict with the police, and with the honest people from the very community he was exiled from.
- Orphaned at an early age, Vidya, her brother, Raja, live a poor lifestyle with their maternal uncle. Traumatized with the accident, unable to see, and locate her missing brother, Vidya is devastated, There is no visible sign of anybody coming to assist her. Will Vidya and Raja ever meet again? What has happened to Raja?
- Amit is employed as a lecturer within a university and wholeheartedly loves Suman opting to get marry to her soon. Their only short-coming in life is Amit's younger brother, Raju, who they allow too much liberty to spoil him which gets him into serious trouble prompting Amit to intervene which gets him killed. A few days later, Sunil joins them in Khandala and brings home a male who claims that he has lost his memory - the male is none other than Vinod - and Sunil's diagnosis is that Vinod will gradually regain his memory. Watch what happens when Vidya and Aarti find out and the steps they take to prevent this from happening.

Their idyllic lives are shattered when Raj is arrested for killing a man named Mangatram who was blackmailing Asha for hiding a secret from the rest of her family.

Ajay operates a publicatin called Karmayogi, in which he publishes news and information about crime and criminals, and does an expose on Keshavlal. Mohan and Shanker want a bigger stake in the share, which Keshav agrees to, but arranges for Shanker to get killed, and blames it on Ajay. When Shanker is killed, Mohan swears to avenge his father's death and begins the trek of locating and killing Ajay.

Unperturbed by this, he asks the assistance of his two sons, Ram (Sanjeev Kumar) and Laxman (Shashi Kapoor), so that the marriages can take place, and at the same time Durgadevi and Makhanlal be taught a lesson. Both the sons readily agree to do this, and Ram goes to Durgadevi household as a servant to woo Shanti; while Laxman poses as a wealthy playboy to woo Roopa. But Makhanlal and his wife, Jwala (Shashikala) want Roopa to marry their jailbird son, Chander (Ranjeet), and will not stop at anything, including abducting Durgadevi herself, to pave their way to wealth.

Her uncle, Mr. Mathur, ridicules this idea, and tells her that she will never find any husband in this manner. Mala advertises in the newspapers, and gets tons of responses. She decides on marrying a young man by the name of Shekar Sinha, who is poor, unemployed, and willing to commit himself to household duties. Before the marriage, Shekar is asked to sign an agreement, which he does. And thus begins the marriage, which is not really a marriage, but an employment contract, which is terminable after one year. The question is will Shekar be able to survive for one year - especially when he does not know how to cook meals for his wealthy "wife".
- Ravi Varma is a single eligible bachelor. He meets with Aarti Mathur, and both are attracted to each other.
