- A progressive teacher tries to help four working class Palermo teenagers, during their last year at middle school.

- Vittorio Zemeli is a man of about 60. He lives in an apartment in a grey building in a grey city center in Europe, crossed by a river. The TV Victor kills himself. The next day Vittorio is anxious while on the way to work. Three friends surprise him and drag him into a popular restaurant in town for a birthday dinner. But the journey on the way back home will be one he won't forget.

"During our journeys Alberto used to write articles for magazines, I would jot down notes for my novels and Pier Paolo scouted for movie locations. A journey back through Dacia Maraini's past, as well as a gripping portrait of the XX century shown through the historical events she lived through first hand that would deeply influence her work and artistic path. "I travel a lot so as to surpass the temptation of settling into a routine. Routine shortens the time we have , travel enlarges it."

Fabio loves the comfort of living in the city centre, but Enzo, he simply loves Fabio. Carletto and Osho are also a strange couple: theyre not real policemen. Osho is a former policeman, Carletto, instead, failed his competitive exam to become a policeman. Osho, feigns to be a policeman and makes small swindles, which allow them to make both ends meet. But today is a winter day, grey and rainy. The ideal scenario for the two futures of these couples to end.

One day Antonio notices that he's being followed by a suspicious looking stranger, well - dressed and obviously rich. This happens frequently, causing Antonio to become very concerned. Alarmed, he tells wife and gambling companions about the situation, but they all just make fun of him, convincing him he's the victim of his imagination. He calms down, but his persecutor soon reappears. Loosing his patience, Antonio decides to confront the stranger and find out what he's up to, but the response he gets from the man shocks him no end: the man is convinced that Antonio is going to kill him. Thus begins what turns out to be both an escape and quest, in which the stranger continues to pop up in Antonio's life, each time leaving him a further clue as to just what his destiny will be.
- Matteo, a 25-year-old student who suffers from panic attacks and is a skilled billiard player, lives in Rome, together with his friends Sandro, a gambler, and Nicola. In the neighborhood there is also Dr. Carlo, a local boss, with his son Pistacchietto, a twenty-year-old drug addict. One day, Sandro challenges Dr. Carlo by losing three rentals and, to fix things, involves Matteo in a game of billiards against the boss. The stakes are Matteo's mother's machine, promptly lost by the boy. However, the situation takes a bad turn when the three friends find Pistacchietto's body in the trunk of the car. With the car towed away by local police on the pedestrian crossing, Matteo, Sandro and Nicola will have three days to recover it, get rid of the corpse and pay off the debt with Dr. Carlo.
