With only a glove, with diamonds stuck in the thumb, as a clue, and while evading the police and other characters after him and the diamonds, Reynolds finally runs down the guilty party and clears himself.

Heading for the Great Lakes, he becomes ill in the cab operated by Ernie Sparrow an is taken to a clinic where he meets nurse Joan Martin, who is engaged to intern Fred Graham. Doctors now tell him he has only a few months to live and advise him to go to Maine (where, evidently, it will seem longer.) He asks Joan to marry him, promising to leave her his fortune. She, no dummy, accepts but hard-loser Fred doesn't like it even though she says she is doing it for him. After six months of living in a lighthouse with only Joan and Sparrow, whom he has hired as his aide, Sinclaie seemingly regains his health and has really fallen in love with Joan. She tells him she can no longer tolerate the loneliness just as Fred arrives for a visit, and John invites him to stay. In a chess game, John facetiously outlines to Fred how he would murder him if he chose to. Fred, decides to beat him to the punch and enters his bedroom that night and attempts to kill John with a poker. The figure in the bed turns out to be a dummy and John, who has been hiding, clubs Fred to death. He tries to throw the body from the bedroom window but it won't open and, planning to return and force it open later, he carries the body to the rocks and then hits Fred's head with a stone. Returning to the lighthouse, John meets Sparrow and tells him that Fred fell from a window but Sparrow knows all the windows have been nailed shut. And Joan, who saw John carry the body out, has summoned the police.
- Fearing that his recently acquired stepmother, Ann Dennis, is competing with him for his father's affections, and saddened by the death of his dog, young Danny Mitchell, in the first film of the long-running "Rusty" series, seeks consolation in the companionship of a ferocious, German-trained police dog, Rusty, brought to the U.S. by a returning World War II veteran. The stepmother, with tender understanding, eventually wins Danny over while Danny pacifies his new dog.
- In the 8th film of Columbia's "Crime Doctor" series, Dr. Robert Ordway is vacationing in the Blue Ridge Mountains district of West Virginia when a typhoid epidemic breaks out. Three deaths occur with the first two being typhoid-caused but the death of the third person, Ward Beachey, is a case of poisoning. Orday learns that Beachey was the town Romeo with many enemies and that most of those had access to the poison. Doc Millerson, who has a suspicion who the guilty party is, receives a note in a woman's handwriting requesting a meeting at the river bank. He goes there and is killed in an ambush by a rifle shot. Following the note as a clue, Ordway visits the house of Ezra Minnich and traps Minnich's young daughter into confessing that her father made her write the note. Minnich confesses he had killed Beachey for trying to break up his home and Doc Millerson because he suspected him.
- An artist married to a wealthy but ill woman begins an affair with one of his models, who is after him solely for his money. His wife discovers the affair and threatens to cut him out of her will. In order to be able to keep both the wife's money and his girlfriend, he begins to secretly poison his wife - but events take a surprising turn after she eventually dies.

When she arrives, it is Ellery's secretary Nikki Porter posing as the daughter as Ellery had her intercept the real heiress after learning of a plot to swindle Rogers. The blackmailing seamen are killed at a waterfront café after getting the blackmail money, Rogers is suspected and Inspector Queen arrives to arrest him, but he is also found dead.

He is caught and sent to prison and, while there, the mother forces Muriel to divorce him and marry a wealthy industrialist. After serving his term and being released, the new husband catches Barry and Muriel together. A shot is heard, the husband is killed and Barry and Muriel are accused of the murder.

Meade then takes on the task of overcoming superstition, opposition, ignorance and herbal remedies , in order to save many lives. And nearly gets lynched in the process.

But when he finds him, Faro and his men arrive and he is captured.

- "River of Missing Men" is the story-source title and, briefly, the working title of this film while in production, but it is not an "alternate" title since "Trapped By G-Men" was never shown anywhere under this "supposed and incorrectly-tagged" alternate title. This film, which also served as the plot basis and provided some stock footage for Jack Holt's 1941 Columbia serial, "Holt of the Secret Service" opens with Harry Grady and Fred Drake, the latter suffering from a bullet wound after making a getaway from a bank robbery, discovered hiding out in an auto camp near Tucson. Drake is arrested but Grady escapes. In Washington, D.C., FBI Chief Conover calls in his best operative, Martin Galloway, and assigns him to the case. Galloway assumes the identity of bank robber Bill Donovan, believed to have drowned in a river without disclosing where he had hidden $200,000 in stolen money. Galloway, nee Donovan is "captured" and put in the same infirmary with Drake, planning to escape and let Drake lead him to Grady's sanctuary. Agent Alice Segar is posing as "Mrs. Donovan" and, with the warden's aid, assists Galloway and Drake in their escape. Drake forces Alice out of the escape car, but leads Donovan to the banks of a river, where they take a canoe down river to the gangs hideout at a deserted mine between some bluffs. Hidden there are fugitives Grady, Lefty, Kilgour, Blackie and several other highly-wanted fugitives, and they hold captive mine operator Dad Higbee and his daughter Nancy. Lefty, who has gone to town for supplies, is almost captured by Alive and other G-Men but escapes by forcing a young tourist, Dick Withers, to man a canoe and paddle him back to the hide-out. Galloway/Donovan takes Nancy and Dick into his confidence, while Blackie, sent to tell "Mrs. Donovan" to bring the $200,000 in loot to the hide-out as proof of "Donovan's" sincerity, is followed back to the hide-out by Alice and the G-Men.
- An elderly detective sets out to find who murdered a stage actor.
- Angry, because he is making too many headlines with his gang-busting activities, the police chief transfers Lt. Lewis Nagel to the sleepy suburban town of Fairview, where he is followed by reporter Steve Withers because he knows Nagel will find a story. Jeane Sandford arrives in town to visit her aunt, Muffin Wilder, wearing a necklace given to her by an eccentric uncle who has been dead for a year and whose will is scheduled to be read on the anniversary of his death. Steve falls for Jeane and, as a joke, steals her necklace. Enroute to replace the necklace, Steve discovers his pocket has been picked, and the intrigued Nagel decides the necklace has some significance in the Sandford family affairs, so he and Steve attend the reading in the old deserted family mansion. The will reads that all of the family except Jeane has been cut off without a penny and that the necklace contains the information necessary to uncovering the inheritance secreted in the old house. The attorney, clutching part of the necklace, and the jeweler who made it are murdered before Nagel solves the case, in which each family member is a suspect at one time or another.
- The American Beauty Association is about to hold its annual trade show in New York City and songwriter "Tiny" Lewis (Billy Gilbert) has just sold a song to Ina Ray Hutton (Ina Ray Hutton), the leader of an all-girl band headlining the show. Lewis shares an apartment with Bradley Miller (Ross Hunter) and Michele (Fritz Feld), an artist, and Miller has just invented a non-staining lipstick called "Rosebud." Preparing to get a booth at the show, Miller is told by J. Webster Hackett (Alan Mowbray), a very devious "Cosmetics King", intent on selling a big lipstick order to buyer Edgar Pomeroy (Thurston Hall), that it will cost him $1000 to join the association and get a booth, which is about $999 more than Miller and his room-mates have between them. But Miller's beauty parlor girlfriend, Janet Wilson (Ann Savage), meets factory-owner P. G. Grimble (Hugh Herbert), and money is soon no issue.
- A boarding house maid is treated mean, until inheriting oil gives her a new gleam.
- On a lecture/vacation visit to Paris, Dr. Ordway drops in on his friend, the Prefecture of Police. He becomes involved in a case involving the stabbing of an old man. The man's son, not all that mentally stable, believes he killed his own father in a rage because his father disliked his new bride, the daughter of a cabaret knife-thrower. Investigating the case, Ordway finds that the business of the legal copying art masterworks may also be involved.
- Private detective Jess Arno and his real estate agent fiance June try to solve the murder when a tire magnate's body is found at a beach house.
