- A sphere that absorbs shapes around it is thrown into the world so you can watch what happens in it. It's slow metamorphoses provide him with remarkable experiences.
- The orb, having morphed into a boy, finds it's way to Ninanna, where he is attacked. He is discovered by a girl, March, who may not achieve her goal of becoming a grown-up.
- March is escorted to the altar to be sacrificed to Oniguma. Along the way, she tends to Fushi, who despite having the body of a young man, doesn't seem to have the mind of one.
- Hayase, interested in Fushi's inability to die, brings him along with March, Parona and Pioran to the nation of Yanome. They are shown around town and treated well, but things are not as they seem.
- Parona and the others escape from the prison under the cover of night and begin their trek back home. But Hayase and her warriors catch up to them.
- Wandering through the forest, Fushi encounters the old woman Pioran. As they journey towards a town, she teaches him how to write and speak.
- A young boy named Gugu and his older brother work hard to save up their money. One day, Gugu comes home to find that both his brother and the savings are gone.
- Rean begins working at Booze Man's liquor store with Gugu and Fushi. Gugu runs away when he learns an unsettling secret.
- After helping Gugu recover, Fushi tells him about his earliest experiences. Gugu recalls the time when he and his brother worked for a rich family.
- Fushi and Gugu struggle against the mysterious enemy "Nokkers" while protecting each other, but in a pinch of desperation, Gugu notices Nokker's weakness and unleashes an attack that only he can do.
- Ahead of her 16th birthday, Rean complains to Fushi that her parents expect her to marry a man she has never met. Shin arrives outside the shop.
- When Gugu and Rean are about to confess their love for each other, a Nokker attacks the party, sending the guests into panic. Fushi and Gugu attempt to fight it but Gugu's special skill has no effect.
- After the events at Rean's house, Fushi departs in order to keep others safe from him, and better himself.
- Trapped in an isolated island, Fushi, encouraged by the kids who brought him, enters the coliseum tournament with the hope of freeing Pioran.
- Fushi attempts to free Pioran from prison, however, he is told to leave by Pioran herself. Fushi continues to fight in the arena but angers the crowd by continually refusing to kill others. The Nokkers once again return to fight Fushi.
- Tonari reflects on her life and her father. Fushi prepares for the final battle in the arena, deciding the leader of the island. During his battle, Fushi meets an old foe and discovers the fate of an old friend.
- Hayase manages to incapacitate Fushi, making her the winner of the tournament and the new leader of the islands. Hayase then decides to name Tonari as the leader while attempting to imprison Fushi. Tonari then looks to free Fushi.
- Fushi and Tonari fight the Nokker invasion, but Hayase sees an opportunity in the chaos that she's not willing to lose.
- Tonari returns to the island in order to rescue Fushi. Fushi and Tonari prepare to set sail off the island, however, before doing so, they decide to head back in order to deal with the Nokkers that threaten the island.
- After departing from Jananda, Fushi seeks out Pioran.
