- Shot in Polish-British co-production series of short stories based on themes of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle - "father" of the world's most famous detective: Sherlock Holmes. - Story opens with Lucja Krol's husband under the tram. She gives birth to her fourth son on the floor of their new apartment. Neighbor Wiktor, a communist intellectual, befriends the poverty-stricken family but is soon arrested and sent to jail. During the war Lucja narrowly escapes a Nazi roundup at the black market. Her sons hold ardent Communist meetings in their apartment, with her blessing. Lucja works hard, but without complaint. After the war, Klemens is inexplicably arrested, accused by the new regime of being a collaborator. Wiktor, now a high-ranking party member, trying to defend him, himself falls into disgrace. Klemens is tortured to "confess" and dies in jail, a Communist to the end. Lucja is never told about his fate.

- Staszek Popiel is the star of the Polish cycling team. Unfortunately, he pays more attention to his own career than to team fights. - The famous revue star Lidia Relska receives a telegram during the performance and leaves the theater feigning illness. He arrives by plane to Lviv, where he stays in a hotel with his father, an oilman. By a strange coincidence, she is mistaken for his wife, which causes a number of funny misunderstandings. The oil tycoon, Baron Karcz, lives in the same hotel. Lidia, or rather Hanka Zarska, accidentally meets his secretary Stefan and falls in love with him, and Stefan, of course, does not leave her without reciprocity. But their happiness is hindered by the fact that Hanka is Zarski's wife. After a few days, Relska returns to the stage, where she is partnered with the dancer Lulu Bilska, Stefan's former love. There are scenes full of misunderstandings, and finally, during the dinner organized by Zarski, everything is explained - Hanka is happy beyond her life and has her dream boy.
