- Julie is an Anglo-Indian girl with a loving, but alcoholic father and a domineering mother, a younger brother and sister. She falls in love with her best friend's brother Shashi Bhattacharya, a Hindu boy, and she has a passionate encounter with him, which leaves her pregnant. He goes away to college, not knowing about her condition. Her mother is distraught when Julie tells her about the pregnancy. They don't tell the rest of the family. Her mother thinks about getting Julie an abortion, but a devout Christian talks her out of it. Julie is sent away to have her baby in secret. The rest of the family is told that Julie got a job. When she comes back home, she runs into her Hindu boyfriend and tells him everything. He agrees to marry her, but his mother objects to the mixed marriage, not knowing about the baby born in secret. Julie's mother doesn't want the marriage either, as she and the rest of the family want to go to England.
- College student Mala has dreams of becoming a Bollywood movie actress; her dreams began materializing into reality when she is approached by Mr. Sharma and his assistant Mr. Verma who promises to take her to the way of stardom. Unfortunately when her parents learn about this they oppose to this and decide to arrange her marriage so that she will be restricted to go above her limits forcing her to approach Sharma for advice who asks her to run-away with huge sums of cash. Greed over comes the duo resulting in Sharma killing Verma; Mala who witness this is on the run for her life; she then board a bus that run between Bombay to Goa without realizing where this journey will end. But her life remains threaten as Sharma has not given up his searches for her.

Dharmesh now has to battle with his conscience, and his medical ethics to save Ram or to let him pass away, so that he can marry Sita.

- Anand Narayan comes from a poor family, which consists of his wife, Gayetri, daughter, Kamla, and two sons Madhu and Govind. Through hard work, Anand starts on his way to success. He meets with Nekiram, who becomes his business partner, and also his samdhi (in-law) as his daughter is in love with Madhu. Both get married in a simple ceremony. After this marriage, both Nekiram, and Anand and his family work hard at preparing food in a small dhaba, which soon grows into a restaurant, then a larger fancier restaurant, finally a five star hotel. Now Anand and his family are all wealthy and live in a palatial home. Anand gets to talking to Bhagwan Shri Kishan, who regularly visits him and asks about him and his family. Anand proudly takes all the credit, and asks Kishan to accompany him to see his success and his hotel. Bhagwan Kishan declines, but agrees do so later. Things don't go quite as well for Anand, when he finds out that Nekiram has been cheating him. Nekiram leaves the house, but Madhu accompanies him. Then Anand finds that Govind has been squandering money and time on women and alcohol; and to top his disappointment Kamla gets pregnant. When Bhagwan Kishan comes to visit Anand again, he admits that he is a failure, his health is poor, and his family are all strangers to him. Lord Kishan advises Anand that this is his life and he must learn from the Mahabharat, and that every life is a struggle, which is confused by relations and near and dear ones, and also by one's ego. Once the ego is removed, then only one can see clearly. But will Anand be able to understand and carry out what Lord Kishan is asking him to? Or will end up taking the blame, like he took the credit, upon himself?
- Karan Singh, the younger scion of a wealthy zamindar (heriditary land owners) who lives in feudal splendour. His older brother 'lords' it over the hundreds of serfs who contribute to the wealth of their family. Karan lives an alcoholic, hedonistic life with wine, women and song for companions. The airline stewardess, Savithri makes a profound influence on the dissolute young man during a flight. Later her rescues her from a fate 'worse than death' and Savithri finds herself in the employ of the estate and living in the haveli (palace) of Karan's family. Association between Karan and Savithri blossoms into love. Caught in the web of palace intrigues, Savithri is implicated in the theft of a precious necklace. While greed for the inherited property and petty jealousy weave their web of malice the love of this amorous couple has to pass the litmus test of suspicion. Reduced to rags and a hovel, Savithri, her parents and siblings eke out a miserable life while maintaining their high moral and ethical standards. Is Karan and Savithri's love strong enough to survive the turbulence of high society expectations, greed, poverty and intrigue?
- Abused by an oppressive brother-in-law Gajendra (Pran), Ramchandra (Dilip Kumar) runs away from home, and ends up in a small village where he is mistaken for Shyamrao (also Dilip Kumar), and must accept Ganga (Leela Mishra) and his new name or face severe exorcism. Meanwhile, Shyamrao is mistaken for Ramchandra by Anjana (Waheeda Rehman) and her dad (Nazir Hussain). When Gajendra finds out, he is enraged and attempts to beat the stuffing out of the person he thinks is his brother-in-law, but Shyamrao refuses to be abused or beaten, and all of a sudden things start changing in the household as well as in the community. It is not long before Gajendra finds out about the truth, and plans an ugly death for Shyamrao, and all those opposed to him.

- Our story has three married couples: One couple, who are happily married, are Tripathi (Sanjeev Kumar) and his wife Mary; the second couple are Geeta (Shabana Azmi) and Vinod (Vinod Mehra), who live in Vinod's mom's house. Their's is an unhappy marriage with Vinod spending a lot of time with Leena (Prema Narayan), and frequenting late and all-night parties. His wife patiently awaits his return every night; And the third couple is that of Shobha (Moushumi Chatterjee) and Vicky Kapoor (Jeetendra), their's is a seemingly "happy" marriage, with Shobha being a very jealous and possessive woman. One day when she sees her husband and Radha (Tanuja) together, she thinks they are having an affair, and starts to ask questions. Suddenly their lives are turned upside down, when Vinod decides to leave the house; Shobha leaves her husband; and Tripathi tries to make amends but looks like these two couples are unable to compromise and adjust to married life.
- Tony's daughter Mary gets intimate with a college friend. When he refuses to marry Mary even on Tony's insistence, he is killed by mistake. Shortly after this, the police come looking for Tony, to charge him with murder, and Tony disappears. Mary gives birth to a daughter, Lily, and lives with Dr. Shambhunath and his wife. Years later, Tarun Kumar enters Mary's life and identifies himself as Tony. Mary is delighted and relieved. Unfortunately for Tony, Police Inspector Lawrence also recognizes him, and it is then Tony must decide to run away again or face arrest and imprisonment.
- Jageera Singh has always lived a life of crime, drinking alcohol, and frequenting brothels, although he is married to pregnant Laxmi and has a son named Vikram. On the day of Laxmi's delivery, Jageera is busy molesting young Paro. Laxmi gives birth to a daughter, Jyoti, who is subsequently abducted. Jageera disappears from Laxmi's life, and she goes to live with a female friend who passes away, leaving Laxmi with the responsibility of also looking after her son, Virendra, aka Veeru. Years later Jageera surfaces and joins forces with smuggler and prominent citizen Bhanupratap. When Police Inspector Vikram's diligence causes problems for Bhanupratap, Jageera offers to kill Vikram, especially when Bhanupratap's niece Priya falls in love and wants to marry Vikram. At this point the past revisits Jageera and he comes face-to-face with his past wrong actions and the devastation that he has inflicted on his family.
- A rich and wealthy couple, Shankarlal and Parvati (Sanjeev Kumar & Raakhee) are appalled at the problems of the world, especially in households, so they decide to try and make things right - one household at a time. They first go the household of alcoholic Rajesh (Rakesh Roshan); his domineering mom (Lalita Pawar); and uneducated wife, Veena (Deepti Naval). Their second task takes them to the household of Vishwanath Gupta(A.K. Hangal); his son, Madhu (Amol Palekar) who has taken to drinking; and his attractive, outgoing, and wealthy wife, Aruna (Sarika). The couple go to work on these families to turn them around and improve and better their relations with each other.
- A retired and blind army major's life undergoes many changes after he decides to get his sons married.
- Ramdas is a trusting individual, and trusts everybody around him. When times turn bad for him, he entrusts the life of his son, Bansi, to his trusted employee, Ronaklal, and departs. He regularly sends money to Ronaklal to provide for the upkeep of his son, but Ronaklal uses this money to educate his son, Deepak, keeps Bansi uneducated, and makes him do a lot of manual work. Years pass by, Ronaklal is now crippled, and is dependent on Bansi, as Deepak has left him, got married to a wealthy girl, and lives with his in-laws. Ronaklal is unable to show his face to Ramdas, and avoids him, and Bansi has grown up without knowing who his real father is. Will Ronaklal be able to tell Ramdas the truth when he returns, or will be just let Deepak be the sole heir to all the estate and the property?
- Tamil-speaking Priya and Punjabi-speaking Dr. Kiran meet and fall in love and get married. Kiran likes to drink and likes the company of women; Priya is aware of this and always suspects him of having an affair. When Shobha decides to go to her parents' house, Kiran meets with dancer/singer, Lulu, spends the night with her, and wakes up the next morning to find her dead body. Fearing that the Police will arrest him and his wife will leave him, he throws the body off a bridge into a river and returns home to try to lead a normal life. When the Police find Lulu's body, they discover that she had taken a taxi to Kiran's house on the night of her death. It looks like Kiran must face the consequences of being arrested and his wife leaving him.
- After the death of his father, Raghu and his mother are left in a destitute way of living which prompts him to steal food for the survival of his mother. The police then arrest him with his mother dying in the process; before he could reach the police station he escapes and is taken in by a criminal don only to become an outlaw. When he is asked to abduct a child which results in the death of the mother his heart changes and he decides to surrender to the law. Years later after his release from jail he promises the inspector to go straight and drives a truck for survival. He comes to the assistance of a young woman named Malti who is on the run from her abusive guardian, Raju; at first he attempts to turn her in but later on relents when he learns of her position. Both Raghu and Malti then fell in love and decide to get marry and soon are proud parents to a daughter, Banku. The duo then get settles in a corner but Raghu criminal friends who he uses to work for are not willing to let go of him and decides to create situations that will leave him with only one option - that of re-uniting with the gang.
- Orphaned at a very young age, Raju and Radha are very close to each other. Radha takes care of the house, sells milk, paints dolls, etc. while Raju works in a mill. When the mill workers' union goes on strike, both of them start their own business of manufacturing and marketing toys. Soon they become rich. Raju would like Radha to get married to Advocate Ramesh Chandra so that he can marry his sister, Malti, but Radha has fallen in love with Anand, a man who had rescued her once, and would like to marry him. Raju gives his consent for both to get married, and they, together with Anand's sister, Nandini and her son, Kasturi, move into their palatial house. When Radha finds out that Raju lives Malti, she arranges his marriage with her and she too moves in with them. Soon misunderstandings start between Nandini, Malti and Radha, and as a result Raju and Malti leave the house. Then Raju gets a shock when he receives a letter from Radha's lawyer demanding half of the estate. By the looks of things it does appear that there is no more love lost between brother and sister, and their estate may be contested in a court of law - leaving nothing but bitterness and hatred on both sides.
- After vanquishing the army of the Kauravas, the Pandava Brothers preside over Indraprastha, and Arjun takes a journey to worship Lord Shiva. It is during this journey that he will challenge celestial sage Narad that no one on Earth can instigate him to go against Shri Krishna. Arjun will soon have to mince his words when, on Subhadra's insistence, he will be compelled to take up arms and go to war against Krishna in order to protect Chitrasen - who had inadvertently offended Sage Gabal - leading to Krishna's decision to behead the former with his Sudarshan Chakra.
