- A new doctor arrives on the Hope Island to assist Dr. Sam Stewart at her medical clinic, although his introduction becomes a bit of a revelation to him. A scuba diver comes up too quickly and suffers from the bends.

Appearing as the dead people in question have been poisoned with cyanide, it could very likely have something to do with the new findings of gold in New Belgium and the illegal gold mining operation run by Michael Otagi.
- When former IMF-agent Laura Ann Wilson is murdered, Jim Phelps's fingerprints are found at the scene of the crime, making him the police's prime suspect in the case. Knowing however that Phelps was in Thailand at the time of the murder working on a case, the IMF-secretary realises that Phelps must have been framed by someone. Jim identifies his former agent colleague Russell Acker as the only person who could possibly be responsible. After having been in a serious car accident 14 years ago, Acker lost his mind and started murdering beautiful women. Jim Phelps, Laura Ann Wilson, and two other female agents eventually put him away for life in a mental institution. Acker saw being caught by his own colleagues as the definitive betrayal and he must now finally have found a way of getting his own back from inside his high security prison for the mentally insane.
- FBI-agent Abel Russell, investigating the alleged possibility of American support to foreign terrorists, disappeared as he followed a trail leading to the tourist resort of Pontiac. Pontiac, a recreated gold mining town from 19th century America, is run by former US congressman Ian McClintock, who, through retired from political life, remains an influential figure in US politics. American intelligence now believe that McClintock may be using Pontiac as a cover for selling weapons to foreign terrorists. However, his influence and political connections makes it impossible for both the police and the FBI to investigate this notion further. Jim Phelps and his team of agents get the mission to go undercover in Pontiac; to discover if McClintock really is dealing arms to terrorists, if he is responsible for the disappearance of Abel Russell, and, if he is guilty, bring him to justice.
- In Colombia, influential drug lords have over recent years gained more and more power and more or less unleashed their own private war on the country's government. Drug baron Esteban Magdalena is responsible for the latest deed in a long campaign of terror - the murder of Judge Juan Silvero - hoping that the Colombian government will be so intimidated by his massive rule of terror that they will hand over power. Hiding away in his Colombian high security mansion, Magdalena has long been wanted in several different countries, among them the United States, for his extensive drug trafficking around the world. Jim Phelps and his team of agents get the mission to extradite Magdalena to the US, so that he can stand trial.
- Several important people in very high positions around the world have during the latest year been assassinated by someone very close to them - such as for instance their personal advisor or private secretary. In every case, the assassin died soon after having performed the deed - not surviving long enough to be interrogated or to disclose any motive. The only apparent thing that the assassins had in common is that they all at one time or another had been patients at an exclusive stress clinic for the rich and famous, run by Dr Philip Westerly. Seeing as Dr Westerly has also been spotted on video footage taken at the scene before several of the murders took place, it is believed that Westerly is the key to the assassinations and the method with which they were performed. Jim Phelps and his team of agents are assigned to the mission of infiltrating the stress clinic; to discover how Dr Westerly sets up his assassinations, and to put him out of the murdering business for good.
- Jim Phelps and his team of agents are assigned to the mission of breaking up an international drugs distribution network run by Socrates Colonnades. They must bring a definite halt to Colonnades's way of acquiring the drugs which he distributes in the first place. This, Colonnades achieves, by robbing relief organisations of medial supplies destined for third world countries.
- Jim Phelps and his team of agents are assigned to the mission of finding and neutralising a dangerous stolen bacteria called Xerxes, which, when exposed to, will rapidly assist in aging all of the vital organs of the human being. The bacteria is believed to have been stolen by Catherine Balzac, who, apart from running a Parisian night club, traffics in black-market intelligence.
- In the Asian country of Kangji, the military leader Xang Kai plans to obliterate the entire government by detonating a nuclear bomb in the capital's city center. His strategy is to blame the attack on the United States and take control of his country, emerging as the undisputed leader. To set up the bomb, he has taken help from the beautiful female terrorist Sun Li, who has agreed to help on condition that her religious leader, "The Holy One", may return to Kangji under Xang Kai's rule. "The Holy One" has for a long time lived in exile outside the country borders. Jim Phelps and his team of agents get the mission to locate and defuse the nuclear bomb, thus stopping all of Xang Kai's devious plans.
- First pilot Daniel Bergerac was scheduled to command and operate the space vessel Frontier One, owned by the private Eurospace consortium, as it made its premiere voyage into space. Bergerac has now, however, mysteriously disappeared and intelligence believe that his vanishing has been a result of foul play. The space vessel Frontier One was designed to clear cosmic debris by laser and to assist in the building of an important space lab. In the wrong hands, it could become a deadly weapon for terrorists. Jim Phelps and his team of agents are assigned to the mission to infiltrate the Eurospace consortium at their base in Australia, discover what really happened to pilot Daniel Bergerac, and to make sure that the Frontier One will not be used for any evil purposes.
- The team must stop a British, devil worshiping aristocrat who performs dark rituals including human sacrifices to brainwash influential guests of his manor and get all their secrets so he can use them or sell them to the enemy.

Jim Phelps and his team of agents are assigned to making certain that Six really is indicted by the jury, and to find and erase his secret records of blackmail information.

Jim Phelps and his team of agents are sent to Egypt on a mission to determine whether or not Selim really did have something to do with these murders, and to make the killings stop before they interfere with impending peace talks in the Middle East.
- Jim Phelps and his team of agents are assigned to finding out what has happened to more than 100 young girls who have mysteriously disappeared from the American town of New Orleans. The police in New Orleans are convinced that the girls have fallen victims to Jake Morgan, a jazz club owner who they also believe is responsible for an extensive white slavery business that kidnaps young girls and sells them as slaves to countries in Africa and Asia. If Morgan really is guilty of these accusations, it is up to the IMF-team to find the evidence and hopefully also a complete records of all the girls that have been sold through the organisation. If records can be found, the girls in question can be tracked, and hopefully also ultimately saved from slavery.
- As the King of the country of Bajan-Du suddenly passes away, it is expected that his young son, Prince Mikos, should continue his father's work and take his father's place on the throne. However, according to Bajan-Du tradition, no one can be king of the country without first passing "the ceremony of the golden lions" - a ceremony the late King's brother Ki is determined to fix so that the Prince can have no possibility of solving it. He wants the Prince to die trying to find the answer to the puzzle. Ki, who is next in line to the throne, hopes to thereafter rule Bajan-Du and put an immediate stop to all the modernization and western influences his late brother was so determined to bring into their ancient country. Jim Phelps and his team of agents get the mission to save the life of Prince Mikos, and ruin all of Ki's plans.
- Since General Eli Szabos took over the armed forces in the country of Sardavia, he has expanded the country's army immeasurable, and, in addition, much more than what is politically necessary. Intelligence believes that Szabos is really planning an invasion of the neighboring country of Bukarine, well-known for its rich oil fields. And that he also has secretly been buying missiles and other weapons to assist him in doing so. Jim Phelps and his team of agents get the mission to prevent General Szabos's invasion of Bukarine and to expose his evil plans to the world.
