- Set in Spain during the exploration of the New World, Barry Morse plays Don Alvaro, a Master of the Order of Santiago, an order of knights. Don Alvaro has become disenchanted with spirit of adventure and conquest that has replaced the chivalric values to which he adhered. He becomes convinced that he must retreat from the world, and attempts to coerce his daughter, Mariana, to do the same.
