- Gerry Quincey is a young man, who under the stern guidance of his mother and father is destined for a bright future. However, the family begins to unravel when Gerry's friend, David Easton is found dead in the West End of London. At the autopsy conducted by Dr Lezard it is discovered that David was a heroin addict. Gerry's father invites Professor Lezard, coincidentally a friend, to the family home for dinner and to ask him to keep the autopsy out of the papers because David's parents are away in New York and they're returning via ship which would take several weeks. After dinner the Professor meets Gerry who has been studying for his exams in his bedroom upstairs and is preparing to go out to a club. The Professor offers to give Gerry a lift and when doing so notices his erratic behaviour. He suspects Gerry is also on drugs and begins to investigate. Professor Lezards's investigation leads him into the seedy world of nightclubs ,criminality and drug induced psychosis.
