- Host Bill Kurtis narrates a historic look back at Alcatraz prison and some of the most famous escape attempts made it's prisoners to get off "The Rock" until it was shutdown in 1963. American Justice also takes an inside look at another maximum security prison in Marion, IL.
- The 1997 trial of 19 year old British au pair Louise Woodward is the focus of American Justice. Woodward was accused of a form of child abuse known as "shaken baby syndrome" in the death of 8 month old Matthew Eappen in Boston. Initially convicted of second-degree murder, that verdict was later set aside in favor of involuntary manslaughter and she was released with time served.
- In Phoenix, AR 1989,Debra Milke is convicted of arranging the murder of her four year old son Christopher. The case hinges on the testimony of one man who confessed to committing the crime along with Milke's then roommate. American Justice takes an in-depth look at this case in which authorities are accused of shoddy police work putting the convictions in doubt.
- On September 10th, 1988 7 year old Jaclyn Dowaliby is abducted from her parents home in Midlothian, Illinois sometime during the night. Four days later her body was found, and based on the results of a poor police investigation her parents David and Cynthia are charged with her murder. Cynthia was acquitted of the crime, but David was convicted only to have his conviction overturned several years later. American Justice looks at this tragic case that remains unsolved as of May 2015.

- American Justice host Bill Kurtis narrates an hour long look at some of the more infamous cases of criminals who are "cop killers". Included are the case of Ronald Ray Howard. Howard claimed that he was influenced by the rap music of Tupac Shakur when he shot and killed a Texas State Trooper in 1992. And the 1991 shooting death of another Texas officer of the law, Constable Darrel Lunsford. Lunsford's murder was recorded by the dashboard camera of his own patrol cruiser. American Justice also interviews other officers of the law as well as prosecutors, and takes a look at the punishment for cop killers.
- Garrett Wilson is accused of killing his 5 month old infant son by his estranged wife after she discovers he is having a relationship with another woman-6 years after the death of their child. Investigators learn that another infant from a previous marriage had also died and that he had a total of $190,000 life insurance on the two infants. Consequently he is charged and convicted of their deaths. American Justice examines this case that had some people convinced that Garrett Wilson was a murderer while others believed it was just a case of a woman scorned.
- 1992– TV-PG8.2 (18)TV EpisodeAmerican Justice chronicles the case of Winnacunnet High School media coordinator Pamela Smart. Smart, who was 22 years old, had an affair with a 15 year old student at the same school and seduced him into murdering her husband. The case against Smart, her lover, and his three friends from the same Hew Hampshire school who had helped him commit the murder grabbed the attention of millions of Americans as the story unfolded.
- American Justice examines the case of Patricia Allanson. In 1974 Allanson goaded her husband into killing his parents. Then after he was sentenced to prison she set her sights on his grandparents by poisoning them, all in an effort to gain a half million dollar inheritance. After serving a short prison term she returned to her evil scheming ways by stealing and poisoning an elderly couple that she was caring for, but this time she enlisted the help of her daughter.
- On April 21st, 1989 Marianne McLaughlin is run down in a Boston parking garage after her husband drops her off to park their car. With serious injuries Marianne slips into a coma and is not expected to live, but after several months she is able to make a miraculous recovery. Investigators learn that her husband Joe had purchased tickets to the theater that evening as a birthday present for Marianne, but that this was actually part of a murder plot involving another suspect hired by her husband. American Justice examines this case of attempted murder.
- On June 3rd, 1986 at a hotel in St. Louis, Edward and Julie Post are in town from New Orleans for a real estate convention. Julie Post drowns in the bathtub of their motel room while Edward goes out for an early morning jog. Investigators initially thought the drowning to be accidental. But as they learn of Edward Post's financial debt and the insurance money that he was going to collect from the death of his wife they take a much closer look, and discover what they believe is a motive for murder.
- David Graham and Diane Zamora were two teenagers who were intensely devoted to each other during high school and had both joined the U.S Naval Academy in Annapolis. While at the academy, Diane confides in roommates that her and David had murdered Adrianne Jones while they were in high school in Mansfield, TX. They had murdered Jones because David Graham had cheated on Zamora by having a one-time sexual encounter with Jones, and Zamora wanted to kill her in order purify their relationship. American Justice profiles this case of murder and jealousy that also became a made-for-television movie.
- American Justice profiles some of the more bizarre defenses in the history of the American legal system. First up, the so called "Twinkie Defense". On Nov. 27, 1978, San Francisco City Supervisor Dan White shot and killed Mayor George Moscone and Harvey Milk who was another supervisor. White claimed he committed the crimes after binging on junk food. Next, "The Sleepwalking Defense" where Scott Falater stabbed his wife 44 times, but claimed he was sleepwalking while he did it. Then, "The Nymphomaniac Defense" where a woman claimed she was engaged in sexual surrogate therapy rather than prostitution.
- On October 15th, 1988 Peggy Carr of Alturas, FL dies of Thallium poisoning. Tests show that her two sons also showed signs of Thallium poisoning. Immediately detectives suspect Peggy's husband Pye Carr of the horrible crime. But soon investigators start to shift their focus on to George Trepal, a neighbor with a genius level IQ and a self taught chemist. American Justice looks at the events leading to the murder conviction of George Trepal.
- 1992– TV-PG7.9 (26)TV EpisodeAmerican Justice profiles the 1975 murder of 15 year old Martha Moxley in the rich and well to do gated community of Greenwich Village, CT. Moxely was brutally beaten to death with a golf club on the eve of Halloween in 1975. Initially investigators determined that one of the main suspects was Thomas Skakel, brother of Michael. The Skakel family were neighbors to the Moxley's and part of the powerful Kennedy clan, and it was highly speculated that it was this wealth and power that was able to protect the Skakel boys from the investigation. Former Los Angeles detective Mark Fuhrmann privately investigated the case and named Michael Skakel as the murderer. Then he wrote a book about the incompetency of the investigation and why it took until 2002 to finally find Michael Skakel guilty of the crime.
- Investigators link a parolee to the rapes and murders of two young women in San Luis Obispo, California, and his sentencing sparks a debate about psychological methods and life sentences versus public safety and the death penalty.

Soon afterward he disappears and the truth about him starts to become all too clear. American Justice examines the investigation and the seven year hunt for Dave Davis.
- American Justice goes back to the 1950s and an era of the "Red Scare" to examine the evidence against Julius and Ethel Rosenberg that led to their conviction of espionage and ultimately both of their executions in 1953. The Rosenbergs, who were admitted Communists, were accused of supplying vital secrets about our atomic bomb research to the Soviets. The most damning evidence against the Rosenberg's came from Ethel's brother and his wife, but new evidence puts some of those claims into question.
- 1992– TV-PG7.7 (18)TV EpisodeThe case of Susan Smith who murdered her two young boys is examined. In 1994 the 23 year old mother from South Carolina claimed that she had been the victim of a carjacking and the perpetrator had taken off with her two young boys still in the car. It is later discovered that there was no carjacking and that she had in fact rolled her car into a lake while her children were still strapped in the car.
- On November 29th, 1992 Sara Tokars is shot to death in front of her two young children by a man who had accosted them at their home in Marietta, GA. After her death her husband Fred Tokars, who was a defense attorney, started to exhibit strange behavior which led investigators to take a closer look at his possible involvement. American Justice takes a close look at the case that led to investigators accusing Fred Tokars of murder for hire, and then his subsequent conviction of the murder of his wife.
- After murdering his mother, wife, and his three children in 1971, John List eludes authorities for 18 years. Then in 1989 the television show Americas Most Wanted airs a segment on him that leads to his capture. American Justice interviews both List and Walsh to gain insight as to why he would commit such a heinous crime.
- In November of 1998, San Joaquin, California detectives who are searching for missing 25 years old Cyndi Vanderheiden learn that Loren Herzog and Wesley Shermantine are linked to not only her disappearance, but to the disappearance of 16 year old Chevy Wheeler, and to the murders of two other men as well. American Justice profiles the case in which Herzog turned evidence on Shermantine in return for a lighter sentence. Shermantine was sentenced to death, and the remains of Wheeler and Vanderheiden were finally discovered on Shermantine's former property in 2012.
- On July 14th, 1993 eight kids in their teens to early twenty's get together for the evening in Hollywood, Florida (a suburb of Ft. Lauderdale)to hang out. Several of the teenagers gang up on 20 year old Bobby Kent, who was with their group, and stab him repeatedly. Kent dies from his wounds, and despite the efforts of the youths to cover up the incident, the truth comes out and they are all charged with 1st degree murder. In their defense they claimed that Bobby Kent was a "vicious bully and this was his payback".

- Blackbeard LaCutte and his gang of pirates are stealing supplies from everyone in the territory, including medicine that is needed to save a young boys life. Brisco and Lord Bowler set out to retrieve the medicine and put an end to Blackbeard and his marauding ways.
- American Justice profiles the life of serial killer Henry Lee Lucas from Virginia. Lucas, who killed his mother in 1960 was released from prison in 1970 and went on a killing spree as a drifter. During this time he met up with Ottis Toole and together they killed at lest 6 people, but possibly many more. Though Lucas himself was only convicted of 11 murders he would later confess to over 150 killings from across the country. In some cases it made it difficult for investigators to find the real killer because Lucas could seemingly provide intimate details of the killings. Investigators would also name Ottis Toole as the killer of 6 year old Adam Walsh. Adam Walsh was the son of John Walsh, the creator and host of America's Most Wanted.

- Barnaby, J.R. and Betty help a friend who was robbed by three men for a second time and raped by the ringleader of the group because she disobeyed him by going to the police after the first robbery. While investigating they discover that she is not the only one being terrorized by the same group.
- When a young woman suffers from hysterical blindness, it's up to Barnaby to figure out what she saw that caused her to go blind.
- An estranged sister and her boyfriend try to cash in by claiming to be the mother of her sister's daughter that she had given up for adoption 22 years ago- and who just happened to inherit millions of dollars. Barnaby investigates further when things don't add up.

- Barnaby and J.R. investigate a string of yacht disappearances in the waters off the coast of California and Mexico. Eyewitness reports say they were taken down by a mysterious whirlpool, but Barnaby suspects a hijacking operation is really behind the mystery.
- While Betty is spending time with a group of friends tragedy strikes as one of the ladies is shot and killed during an alleged break-in. The leading suspect is the estranged husband of the victim, but Barnaby and J.R. dig up evidence (and other possible murders) that indicates it's one of the other friends.
- A mentally challenged young man stumbles upon a murder being committed and tries to help the victim, but he's too late and the real assailant flees the scene before any other witnesses show up. The local sheriff wants to charge him for the murder, and it's up to Barnaby to prove that he has the wrong man.
