- An engaging and visually stimulating introduction to a fascinating place and time period from many of those who both shaped it and were shaped by it.
- Love is a bitter history of formation and growth. The discovery of the world. The self-discovery. The restless overcoming fragile shadow line of the first youth marks the path of three boys from different worlds who meet in heaven and ancestral magic of the islands. Romance of André (Malik Zidi), Camille (Aylin Prandi) and Santino (Francesco Casisa) end up exploding inside the frame closed the island of Salina, surrounded by a sea that seems to contain the memory of legends, rumors and atavistic prejudices. Stands out in this scenario of green and blue, the figure of Assunta (Angela Molina), mother Mediterranean, passionate, possessive and mysterious.
- Set in contemporary Naples, Dark Love focuses on the consequences of the brutal rape of a young woman by three teenage boys. Ciro is the only boy who shows remorse (he confesses his role, leading to recriminations from his fellow assailants), and part of the film is devoted to his experiences in an offshore juvenile prison. Simultaneously, the film follows the faltering efforts of the victim, Irene, to put her life back together, continue studying for university, and behave with some semblance of normality with her boyfriend and family. However, Ciro starts writing letters from prison to Irene, who eventually begins to read them. The two stories have a marked difference in tone. Ciro's experiences are unsurprisingly gritty and occasionally violent, while Irene, in a much more meditative depiction, is shown going about everyday life while still disturbed and alienated by what she has been through. The interweaving of the two stories is skillfully handled, the use of Naples as a setting is evocative, and the performances from the young protagonists are little short of astonishing. Director Antonio Capuano has created an understated, challenging and meditative film which avoids either cheap moralising or simplistic resolution.
- The Stranger, a tall striking creature dressed in white sets into motions a series of events while reciting the Edgar Allen Poe Poem "Eldorado", which will have an effect on those heading towards the mythical city. The evening was going to be a normal Blues Brothers tribute gig for Oliver and Stanley Rosenblum, The Jews Brothers at a local Bar Mitzvah, but things were not going to go to plan for Stan and Ollie. After being wrongly sent to entertain the annual conference of Neo Nazi's instead of the stripper, which was sent to the Bar Mitzvah by their inept Manager J.J. The Jews Brothers are chased out of town by the head of the Californian Chapter of Neo Nazi's General Zwick, and after contacting their agent J.J., who makes amends for the mix-up by sending the boys and the stripper Lesley Dean to do a show at the Eldorado Festival. This sets in motion a series of events, as at the same time Jessica Albino Jones is on the run from her husband, strip club owner Roy with a million of his dollars and with words of wisdom from Angel and Lilly, she finds herself on the same road to Eldorado. The Jews Brothers have broken down, and then are humiliated by a gang of Hell's Angels led by Meat. Oliver is keeping it together while his weaker brother Stanley is complaining about a broken tooth. They are given directions to a dentist known as Doc Martin who just loves pulling teeth and gets some kind of sadistic kick from doing procedures on his patients. The story continues as they close in towards the center of Eldorado, but at the same time Roy is concerned his wife has run off with one million dollars and employs the help of his friend Ted to pursue his missing wife and more importantly, his money. They are also heading now towards a meeting in Eldorado. As these relatively normal characters make their way there, it becomes increasingly clear that the inhabitants of this town are not the normal folk you expect celebrating their towns bicentennial. The town folk of Eldorado are a collection of folk who prey on tourists, including loud mouth Dick Wheeler coming to their town and making them top of the menu. Now Oliver and Stanley have to escape from this town before they become the dish of the day. With the likes of Lemmas, the deranged butcher, making sure that only the best meat is ready for the feast, it's going to be hard getting out in one piece. With the Stranger bringing the pieces into play, and the Spirit Guide making his own waves, it will end in a way that no one is going to believe. With the town folk on the tail of Oliver and Stanley, they make the run out of town with a million dollars that Stanley has surprisingly found, they are looking forward to a life of no more worries, but the Stranger does not have that in mind, as they find themselves on a cloud on the other side.

- Red Moon is the story of a repentant member of the Mafia, who confesses to a judge, in a lengthy flashback to all the misfortunes wrought by the horrendous crimes of some families that struggle to perpetuate the logic of their evil power. Since the beginning of the 1970s, the Cammarano family has extended its rule over a wide territory, with coldness and no scruples. Nobody would dare to dispute its control and its increased power. Yet things are bound to change, as the new generations feel estranged from their own lives. The balance within the family starts to collapse, and the old grudges re-emerge. Red Moon shows the end of the family, at the hands of a young offspring. It is the end of the Mafia family. This tragedy is inspired by Aeschylus' Orestiadi as the name of the main character, Orestes, clearly implies.
- A rebellious little boy has been taken away from his abusive mother and placed in the temporary care of a young couple. And while Mario is a singular child, commendably portrayed by the pugilistic Marco Grieco, what turns Antonio Capuano's Mario's War into a fine film is not just this penetrating performance but the sensitive depiction of the new world that envelops this young boy. This film gets to the heart of the restless struggle between an adult and a child who have to adapt to each other without the bond of a biological relationship. Giulia is a special woman who gratefully and bravely embraces her new foster son. As played by the wonderful Valeria Golino (recently seen in Respiro), we recognize her unbending strength and commitment to meeting this huge challenge. Not only does she have to grapple with every obstacle Mario throws at her, but she has to cope with the doubts and hesitation of Sandro (Andrea Renzi), the man she lives with and loves... Hovering uneasily over the film is the issue of making a defiant kid fit into a system that may not suit him. Giulia and Mario are allies in a war to make sure that his individuality survives intact, but they are also occasional antagonists. Capuano's skill at balancing these competing forces is exemplary, turning Mario's War into a complex portrait of a woman and her chosen son.
