- On PM watch, Reed and Malloy assist Wells and Brady at a domestic dispute involving an armed husband. They investigate the report of a possible dead body, and later, the robbery of a pawn shop. At the gun range the next day, Reed and Malloy, along with Wells and Brady, among others, practice before their monthly qualification. Later, a cabbie tips them on what he thinks is a burglary in progress. They get a hit on prints taken at the pawn shop the night before and find the suspect working at a car wash. He tries for a clean getaway, but pulls a gun instead and is caught. After nightfall they back up Wells and Brady again, on a prowler call this time, where the homeowner takes a shot at a suspected prowler.
- When an old man wearing a strange-looking belt is found dead of natural causes, fraud is suspected and the case is turned over to major frauds division. Investigation leads to a Dr. Gantman, whose useless treatment of a blind seven-year-old girl with a pituitary tumor is preventing its timely surgical removal. A break comes when a television repairman, who makes "electro-charged oscillator belts" for the doctor, is arrested for bookmaking and is willing to testify against him. The bookie isn't needed after a courtroom demonstration by the doctor, and participation by the prosecution, results in the doctor's undoing.
- Officers Walters and Brinkman are on a roll lately and like to brag about their successes, much to the irritation of Jim Reed. He and Malloy help them out by finishing one of their calls, then rescue a sick teenage girl.
- Pete and Jim have to contend with a mysterious noise in the squad car while dealing with grand theft horse, a naive teenage waif, and a robbery suspect who makes fake calls to distract the police.
- While Malloy is attending college, radicals learn he is a cop. They reject him stressing him on the job. After helping arrest demonstrators, his new car is vandalized. When a timer is found missing, he locates and disarms a bomb using it.
- New gamekeeper Ted Hewitt sets out snares and traps on Lord Eddington's estate to protect game and catch poachers. This doesn't sit well with Dr. Gordon, who, with daughter Vicky, pays him a visit. While the men talk, Vicky learns the man's wife, Beth, is pregnant and doesn't seem well. She refuses to take it easy so Vicky visits often to help with her chores. When Beth collapses, Vicky must run for the doctor and gets caught in a snare. Beauty must get help.
- A spirited black horse escapes from a dealer and is found ailing by Vicky Gordon, who quickly falls in love with him. Vicky's father, the new doctor in town, treats the horse's illness and refuses to surrender him until he's well. The owner agrees to let the horse stay a few days before he takes him to be sold. When the owner falls ill the doctor hurries on horseback to save his life. Soon after, the man gives the horse to the doctor.
- Amy Winthrop's nephew steals Beauty after his aunt refuses to give him fifty pounds to get out of debt to a bookie who is threatening him. To save Beauty and her nephew, Amy must pawn her jewelry and hurry to the auction to bid on the horse.
- 1972–197424m6.9 (18)TV EpisodeKevin and Robbie find an old helmet with a wing and lose the wing on the way home. An archaeologist from a nearby dig dismisses the helmet as a reproduction of little value, but when Robbie finds the wing it is promptly stolen. Later the thief is caught trying to steal the helmet, but the wing is nowhere to be found.
- While riding Beauty, Vicky bumps into an old woman out gathering mushrooms who many in town think is a witch. After she scares off Kevin when he tries to retrieve a kite from the roof of her cottage, he sets out on Beauty for another try and is injured, but makes his way to the cottage where the woman takes him in and tends to him.
- For the sake of a determined young couple, Andy aims to end an 87-year-old bloodless feud betwixt their daddies.
- A new dating service wants to test out its questionnaire that is meant to find people with common interests and pursuits. They focus on Mayberry and soon Goober is filling out the questionnaire. Opie tries to tell him that he's not answering the questionnaire correctly - such as saying he read 30 books a month when in fact he reads that many comic books - but Goober perseveres. Soon, he's on a date with the highly educated designer of the questionnaire and it becomes painfully apparent that they have little in common. As things develop however, she soon finds there may be some advantage to the lifestyle and attraction of small-town living.
- That there may be a direct descendant of a Revolutionary War hero living in Mayberry flatters the town, 'til they learn who it is.
- Crotchety old businessman Ben Weaver wants moonshiner Sam Muggins locked up for Christmas but, after seeing the holiday spirit in Andy's jail, he tries to be arrested himself.
- A problem with ethics soon puts a lovely new lady pharmacist on the town's black list over withholding pills from a senior citizen simply because she has no prescription for her regular medication.
- Ellie crosses the line when she insists on a farm girl wearing make-up and perfume against her hard-pressed father's wishes, leading Barney to commit an abduction.

At the hotel, Goober calls up Roy Swanson, an old friend from trade school, to see how he's doing and to brag a little. They meet at the show and Goober is surprised to find out that Roy is a senior vice-president in charge of engineering with Amalgamated Motors. After hearing about a fellow student, Goober tells Roy he has a chain of stations instead of just one. When Roy meets the Taylors and invites them to dinner, Goober says it's his treat and chooses the finest restaurant in Raleigh. At dinner, Goober, out of his element, tries to act like a big shot but things don't work out and Roy finds out the truth. As they prepare to go home the next day, Andy unsuccessfully tries to cheer up a dejected Goober, who feels like a complete failure. Stopping for gas, Andy gets a bottle of pop and sees Roy, covered in grease, working on a car. He calls Goober over and asks him if he'd like to say hello to an old friend but Goober declines, saying he wouldn't want to embarrass him.
- When Goober hears that Wally has the gas station up for sale, he decides the time has come for him to become a businessman. With Andy and Emmett acting as co-signers, he borrows the money and is soon the proud owner of his own business. His idea of being a business executive may be a bit off kilter however. His first act is to hire an employee to do the manual work while he does all of the 'thinking.' Only problem is, he's not much of businessman and Andy and Emmett start to wonder what they have got themselves into when Goober starts to make some pretty serious errors, like forgetting to order gas. When Goober reads about a well-educated man who lost millions when he became head of his company, he loses all confidence in himself.
- Mayberry gussies up for a Hollywood film crew - exactly what the visiting Hollywood producer and Andy don't want.
- Andy suspects that Barney and a few other citizens have been taken in by a slick music-recording man from out of town.
- Andy lectures Opie on the value of keeping one's promise then later asks him to break it to reveal the identity of the runaway kid he just met and befriended, leaving Opie confused.
- Sheriff Taylor twists the law to help a musically gifted citizen leave the community nest by arresting a traveling band on trumped up charges.
