- Jennifer returns home from her honeymoon to find her mother in law Shelia beaten. She calls police and ambulance. Somehow, her new husband and father in law are covering up something. The men clean up the house, and tell the police that Shelia has fallen down the stairs. Duffy confides in Charlie that her fiance has cleared out her bank account and absconded.
- Shelia recovers and finds an ambulance at their house when she gets home. Now it is Jennifer's turn for a trip to the hospital. Comfort returns for Jennifer and talks to her about spousal abuse, but she won't listen. Ian's father coaches him on what to say to Jennifer to get away with it. Comfort overhears him. The police are called, and Ian is taken away. Shelia tells her to get out of the marriage before history repeats itself.
- When Jack was released from custody, he offered to give Tony a kidney, but was not a match, but their father is. So the operation is tomorrow. Anna is avoiding Merlin because she can't tell him that she is his real sister. Her mother threatens her to tell him or she will. New paramedic Luke starts today. He rescues a girl who has been locked in a cellar by her father. Staff are worried that Harry came back to work too soon after his wife's death. He is making too many mistakes.
- Pip Benson is a bully to his employees.. One morning he opens up his garage and finds Bryony hanging from a beam. He goes to the hospital with her and tells everyone it was Wayne, her husband, who had been abusing her. Until a letter is turned over to Roxy, addressed to Wayne. It states her boss is the source. Bryony dies and Wayne goes after Pip Benson. Pip drops his cigar and ignites a gas explosion. Anna encourages her boyfriend Merlin to seek out his birth mother. When Anna goes to talk to the woman he is meeting, it turns out to be her own mother. Tim is accused of drugging and raping his own girlfriend who he has only kissed once. The accuser is his own brother who is guilty. Duffy's fiance comes back and gives her back all the money he stole from her, and she agrees to go to New Zealand with him. Charlie is devastated.
- Matthew Gore was adopted at birth. He has his 12th birthday today. While he is struggling in Math class, a mysterious bluish green mist comes through the window and enters his head. Suddenly, Matthew can solve complicated math problems, and hears a voice in his head telling him the answers to the test.
- Matthew's father and mother, David and Mary, notice him talking to himself and asking very complicated questions they cannot answer. His sister Polly has an imaginary friend and they think Matthew has one too, even though he is a bit old for that. He seems to spend a lot of time drawing in his room, which he never did before.
- When Matthew sees the new car David has bought, he starts throwing a tantrum. Polly runs to get her parents and Matthew starts saying "Chocky" doesn't like the car. They decide to invite their psychiatrist friend Roy over for dinner to have an informal chat with Matthew. After talking to him, Roy believes Matthew is possessed by someone named Chocky, but not of this earth.
- Matthew is becoming more unstable as he is having outbursts of arguments with Chocky. David and Mary soon realize that it is a real voice from an alien planet who has been talking to Matthew. Soon, the government is interested in this alien life force and want to investigate.

- Major Harry Truscott, broke and unemployable, robs the poor box at the church. The vicar catches him and he has to pay a £ 50 fine. He tries to kill himself on the train tracks, but a woman stops him. He tries to jump off a bridge and an old army acquaintance stops him by offering him half of his £ 90,000 inheritance. Harry finds out that Corp. Beamish was lying to stop him from jumping. Harry tells him of his plan to start a "secret army" and recruits him. They don't like each other as Beamish had an affair with Harry's wife while he was away in the army.
- After reaching an army of eight, Harry decides they need a fundraiser. The only problem with that is they can't tell anyone it is for an army. After various begging tactics with different agencies without success, they give up. Then Harry gets "bumped" by a car and Beamish looks at this as an opportunity to get a settlement. The woman driving is wealthy and a sore elbow turns into an ambulance ride to the hospital. They try to sue the woman based on the story that Harry is writing a book and he can't write anymore. That fails and they are back where they started.
- The members question Nancy about how long she has known Harry. They come up with some story about not knowing each other. Harry tries to convince Nancy that it is a real chore to sleep with Jill just to hear her talk in her sleep. That night Jill says they are doing a big job on the 18th. At last he has news to report to Smith. They go out and are followed so they split up. They keep bumping into people they know. Meanwhile Throttle meets Smith at the amusement park and gives him a fake list of names that the army has helped.
- Throttle leaves a truck full of explosives in front of the house and it explodes. Harry suffers a concussion and loses his memory. He does not recognize anyone. Meanwhile, a mysterious stranger wants to employ the army to catch a Marxist named Cobra. Beamish tells Smith they have almost 500 soldiers so Smith lets them use an abandoned army base. Harry's memory returns and he takes the lead on the operation.
- When Harry finds out Jill in the next room talks in her sleep, he sets out to sleep with her. Back at the camp Nancy is worried sick about him. They fear he has been killed by the cell and devise a plan to send another soldier in. On the contrary, Harry is settling in nicely. He needs to get back to the camp and disguises himself as a nun. He bumps into Throttle, and then Beamish, who quits the army. He finally gets to the camp. When he gets back to the house, Jill talks in her sleep as to a date of action. Nancy walks into the house.
- Beamish's sister is Nancy, the woman Harry met on the railroad tracks. She owns the house they want to make HQ for the secret army. Beamish calls it "Operation Charm" and gives Harry money to take her to dinner to get her on side. They also have to let her join the army if she says yes. Meanwhile, Harry assumes she will say yes and invites 3 recruits to the house for the weekend. Nancy realizes that he is not there for a visit, but is in her house to set up a secret army. After several dinners out, she gives in.
- Harry buys rifles from an arms dealer, but the bullets are the wrong size. They need to open a health food store as a front so they mark the rifle crate as recycled toilet paper. Harry has to buy some so they can hide the guns in the crate and pass inspection for the store license. Meanwhile, the news of the secret army is spreading and all kinds of weirdos are coming to apply. Harry finds out Bagnell can't join because his boyfriend won't let him, and Throttle won't join because he is to remarry.
- The shop opens and is a raging success. Nancy decides to triple the prices and be rude to the customers to get rid of them. That does not work and people keep coming and paying the inflated prices. Throttle gets 1,000 uniforms for £300, but they seem a little small. Recruits are coming in and most of them are weird or criminals. Throttle has decided that he, and his fiance Doris, a former drill sergeant, will also join. Harry hires Crazy Colin to run the shop and a shelf falls on him and he dies.
- Harry meets with Smith at an amusement park with the news that he found Cobra. Smith send him to Marxist school to train him for the infiltration of the cell. Harry goes over to the house and gets admitted because of his knowledge. He is shocked to find that one of them is his son Paul.
- Harry escapes the car, strips his clothes off, and runs straight for the police. Harry calls Smith and is released. The cell were going to hack computers country wide and crash all the big corporations. Harry and Nancy are finally going to get married, but Smith intervenes and he leaves Nancy standing at the altar again.
- Throttle cooks up an idea to disguise themselves as hippies and go to a peace festival where the cruise missiles are kept. They plan on catching the terrorists in action. Cobra tells Harry that he knows about his army of 5 and Throttle's plan as well. Jill says she did not talk in her sleep, it was a ruse to feed Harry false info. Cobra says there is a mole in Harry's army. The police arrest the hippies and Nancy and Harry are kidnapped.
- A rugby player gets a broken leg in a match. He dies from a brain bleed. After investigating, it is revealed that his best friend punched him in the head and caused it. Janice finds Chrissy's name badge and confronts Alistaire and he weasels his way out of it. He gives her the necklace that he bought for Chrissy. Janice is pregnant.
- Ric agrees to take cash for doing a private surgery, but the patient's father threatens him, that if his son dies, he won't pay up. He also threatens to have him beaten up. Rosie insists to Mubbs that he should get a woman's medical records and he doesn't. The woman lies to him and endangers the baby.
- Chrissy tells Sam that she will tell Alex that Sam spiked his drinks. Sam goes to Alex, and as she is about to tell him, he tells her he loves her. A man who was a bully at school, gets a bed next to a man who was his victim, with unfortunate results.
- New Year's day. Chrissie wakes up in Mubb's bed and tries to sneak out. The organ ambulance is stuck in traffic and the recipient dies waiting for it. There is a second patient waiting as well, so they give it to him, but he dies too. Tom blames the system and Zubin calms him down.
- Samantha invites Alex to her birthday party, but he declines. He meet Jess in a bar, and she takes him to the party. He finds out Jess is Ric's daughter and she is flatmates with Samantha. A fight breaks out with Steve and his old friend. Police come, Ric calls them racist, he gets arrested for not cooperating.
- A patient has to decide whether to have her 6th baby or a heart operation, either one or the other. Alex Adam's tribunal today. Tom saves him by recommending that he not be fired, but put in the out patients clinic. Alex is angry with the result.
- Meyer tells Ric off for getting arrested for marijuana. Steve finds a lump on a little boy's neck. Janice has a positive scan. Ric goes for an administrative job at a private clinic, then changes his mind. Alistair wants to settle the divorce.
- A woman in emergency with a heart problem discloses that she is Meyer's sister. Her husband does not like him and does not want Meyer's anywhere near his wife. Nick and Karen are driving when they see a crashed car. In an attempt to rescue the driver, Nick injures his hand.
- Alex tries to get Sam fired by telling Meyer about the spiked drink. Meyer won't do it because she was off duty. Ben decides to invite his parents for dinner to tell them he's gay. He asks Sandy to come for moral support. Problem is, Sandy recognizes them from the cancer ward.
- Kath leaves Simon and gets Danny to pick up her belongings. Father Chambers and Danny paint and decorate her new place while she is at work. A woman wants to leave the man that cared for her and raised her two sons, for another man, who happens to be her husband's much younger employee.
- Adam's Parkinson's is bad and he can't operate. Tom is called in, but too late, the patient is dead. Nic Yorke, the new health care asst. starts today. All the girls are throwing themselves at him, but he seems to be keen on Sandy. Jess and Lisa have a party and agree to let Sandy move in.
- The hospital chaplain collapses and needs heart surgery. He loses his faith and his wife refuses to call his estranged daughter for him. Meyer suspends Nick until the negligence hearing. The nurses pull a prank on the hospital maintenance worker.
- Kath is helping Father Chambers with Communion and is late home. Simon gets really angry about it. Tash gets pricked by a heroin needle in her new girlfriend's purse. She breaks off with her and the girl begs her to help her kick the habit. Kath is lying on the floor with a bloody face and calls an ambulance and passes out. Danny is called when Kath is admitted and swears he will kill his father. He is about to do just that when there is someone at the door.
- It's Julie's last day on trial as ward sister. A man dies as his wife is giving birth. Temp nurse Brenda is not what she seems. When Sandy applies for nurse's residence, she accidentally mentions that Julie has a daughter, and gets her evicted.
- Zubin finds Kath bleeding and unconscious and rushes her to theatre. Nic speaks to his mother, and rushes to her flat to find Kelly. Kelly has turned on the gas and the flat explodes, almost killing them both. The mother tells Chrissie that it was Kelly that tried to kill her.
- There are two children with meningitis in the ward and Victoria did not show up for work. Guy had been around to her flat that morning and had a fight with her on the doorstep. When no one can locate her, Alex goes around after work. Her door is open, the water running, and Victoria is lying in a pool of blood.
- Steve is back, the little girl confessed that she lied about him kissing her. A meth addicted patient refuses to take a HIV test. New locum Professor Fletcher starts today and the staff find that he is very laid back. Julie's husband is making an effort to be in Rosie's life. Victoria finds Guy taking painkillers.
- Sandy is still reeling from the drugs. Tom has a robotic arm surgery demonstration and shows up drunk. He threatens Ed to keep quiet about it. Lisa and Kath can't cope with Terry's death. Kath prays for forgiveness. Chrissey is having second thoughts about her baby.
