- A former homicide detective, who was demoted to beat cop 15 years ago for publicly hanging a suspect off a bridge, is promoted to the Cold Squad. He and Nicco work on the case of a body found encased in concrete of a building under construction.
- Lewis and Falsone, joined by Stivers, get the case of a woman almost beaten to death and left in an alley. Georgia Rae Mahoney tells Kellerman she has video of Luther's shooting. Frank anxiously awaits the birth of his child, but Mary is unruffled.
- When a fugitive from the US is captured, Ali investigates his claims that he killed two girls in Canada. If she proves his claim, he will serve life in a Canadian prison; if not, he will be extradited to face the death penalty in California.
- After being informed by Simon that the Cold Squad is being folded into other units, and that her position has been eliminated, Ali storms out of Dick's tavern. Digesting the news while driving her car, she hits a teen-aged boy standing in the street.

- Michael is allowed 15 minutes in the free world, by himself, under strict instructions to not draw attention to himself. Unfortunately, he becomes involved in a robbery in a bank and must use his superhuman strength to save one of the hostages.

- IA Det. Sgt. Stiles investigates an indecent exposure charge against a veteran officer, resulting in the officer's dismissal. Months later, the exposure complainant confesses to a years-old murder, and subsequently raises doubt on his original testimony.
- Len meets the "victim" of one of his old Homicide cases . . . alive . . . in the holding cell. Mickey is confronted with new developments in a cold case involving a 4-year-old girl, whose decapitated body Mickey found when she was a patrol officer.
- While detouring around a road construction site, Will and Sonny are trapped by a landslide on a wilderness road, along with six other people: a runaway and her boyfriend, an alcoholic trumpeter and his estranged med-student son, and a man and his wife towing their RV.

- Fred takes his runner-up finish in the Science Fair badly, and rushes off and almost drives his car off a cliff. After the near-accident, Andrea, Fred, and Dorothy drive to a ghost town, which is "haunted" by a trio of thieves using it as a hideout.

- A businessman's office is burglarized, the safe cracked, and the cash payroll stolen. A former business partner is the obvious suspect, due to his knowledge of the office layout and safe combination, but he has an alibi: he was in prison at the time.

- Sonny and Will are hauling a load of apples out of Hendersonville when they come upon a bus that has a flat tire as a result of a gunshot. They and the passengers end up at an abandoned farmhouse, surrounded by gunmen who are after money that was stolen from a bank.
- Marty Lacayo and Glenn Talbot are street narcs, meaning they are given the task of busting nickel-and-dime users and hustlers. Shep, one of their users, gives them a tasty lead on a big distributor, but they are forbidden by Lt. Hagedorn from pursuing him.

- Ray shoots and kills a suspected cop-killer, and Samantha investigates the circumstances of the murder he supposedly committed. A defense attorney persuades Ali to testify in the retrial hearing of a killer she and her former partner helped convict.
- An Air Force Major, the chief of security, has an paranoid reaction to a prescription drug and takes over the Command Center during a bomber drill. Al is called in to extract him from the locked President's bunker before he starts World War III.
- Manny Mandell, involved in a shootout with a fleeing felon in which his partner is fatally wounded, receives a Police Department medal as a result. The survivor's guilt is bad enough, but as a medal winner he finds the expectations overwhelming.
- Sonny and Will pick up a carnival elephant in North Carolina to deliver in Sarasota, Florida. First, she gets loose on a country road, then Sonny finds a drunken stowaway in the trailer, then the rig is stolen . . . and Sonny's day goes downhill from there.

Investigators piece together a case with circumstantial evidence and an unusually large set of coincidences.
- Will and Sonny stop to help a young trucker when he almost runs them off of the road. When they find that he is very ill, they determine to give him "The Time of His Life". This includes bowling and girls.
- Ali and Mickey reopen a 12 year old case, which was originally judged a murder-suicide, based on the word of an arrested drug dealer. After a man reports being attacked by a dog, Frank investigates whether the dog-owner earlier had killed his wife by ordering the dog to attack her.
- The investigation into a prison inmate's killing by a guard who was under the care of a high-profile self-help counselor is complicated by the fact that Mickey is also a client of the counselor. Christine's brother is brought in on a petty beef, and she arranges his release.
- Ali talks to a man about three kids who disappeared from a camp 30 years ago, when he was a counsellor, and whose bodies were discovered 4 years later. When she goes to question him further at his residence, she discovers it is a mental hospital.
- An article in The Baltimore Sun about an investigation of the arson unit upsets Kellerman. Munch catches the case of a woman whose husband discovered her dead in her bedroom and immediately suspects the husband. Brodie gets an offer to stay at Kay's place.
- Kimble and a female reporter capture the critically injured one-armed Fred Johnson, and try to get him to confess to the murder of Kimble's wife.
- When a Chinese teenager is found hanging in a jail cell the morning after being arrested, Ali and Tony investigate the similarities with another jail cell hanging 20 years before, when the police department was being investigated for brutality.
