- Matt's gaming problem becomes dangerous, Dani's quest for her mother finally leads her to a confrontation, while Junior and Kris do the nasty.
- The pressure is on Junior to decide whether or not to go through with his wedding to Laura after he and Kris share a moment of passion.

- Kris sees a herd of wild mustangs pass by, but so did four Raintree horses who joined them, including Wildfire and Houdini, mother Jean Ritter's favorite Mustang; Jean's ankle is hurt during yoga, so Matt and Kris must catch the horses in Chumash country before some rancher shoots them, legally; despite the unappealing conditions, Kenny 'Junior' Davis joins them for Kris's sake. Matt proves himself as tracker and spots cougar prey remains; Danni catches up a bit later, but by the time they find out the mustangs somehow got across the river it's too late, so they relax swimming in a waterhole, exchanging secrets and dancing; just when Kenny got to kiss Kris, a cougar scares them. Jean gets a surprise visit from Matt's dad Peter Ritter, who claims to be truly sorry and cured of his gambling addiction. Charlie tells Jean he's going a few weeks to Caracas on business. In the morning the kids find Houdini, dead- Matt decides to bury him there and first gets his ma.
- Raintree is a thoroughbred horse-farm. Pete, its owner, left the Ritter family and serious debt, but Jean Ritter is determined to keep it in the family, rather then sell control to the wealthy and well-connected Ken Davis. Her invaluable horse trainer, Pablo Betart, who once has a record too, convinces her to hire a new ranch hand- it's Kris(ten) Furillo, who needs the job to convince the judge to end her detention term for car theft and resisting arrest. Her horse-skills impress everyone, from old Henry and young but extremely astute Todd Ritter to the young men on the ranch, good friends Todd Ritter and Kenny 'Junior' Davis. After their best horse comes only fourth is a high-prized race, Jean doubts whether she can hold out financially.
- Kris meets Kerry Connelly, a sports agent who takes interest in Kris after the results of the Sandpiper Race.
- Kris is reunited with Wildfire in time to race on the world's biggest stage, in the Breeders Invitational Stakes.

And, as if that wasn't enough, her emotions get the best of her - and she also kisses Matt. Meanwhile, Dani and R.J.'s relationship is picking of some steam. She even decides to move into his trailer - but they soon realize that it is hard for a "Princess" and a "Cowboy" to co-exist under the same roof. He chugs beer - she sips wine. Tired of having Kris living under the same roof as Matt, Gillian tries to motivate him to help find them a place to live. However, he is struggling with his decision to move in with her as he begins to realize that his feelings for Kris are real.
- After Kris Furillo's trailer unexpectedly burns down, her sense of independence is tested when she has to move in with the Ritter family. In order to win herself another trailer, she partners up with Matt in a roping contest. With their increased time together between practices and living under the same roof, Matt and Kris try to adjust as old feelings begin to surface in "Close to Home," Meanwhile, Junior continues his pursuit of bull riding but runs into some resistance from some of the veteran riders and Dani finds herself being heavily pursued by RJ, a rodeo cowboy and friend of Juniors.
- Kris learns what happened to Kerry while Raintree deals with the unexpected fallout of the Breeders' Cup win. Meanwhile, Dani takes over the Davis ranch, but that doesn't stop her father from calling the shots; and Jean welcomes home a familiar face after a death in the family. Also, Matt rethinks his destiny on the farm.
- Kris tries to repair the rift between Matt and Junior, but the tension is exacerbated by the approach of the important Bristol Stakes and the return of Gillian, who proceeds to resume her bonding with Junior.
- Kris and Junior consider a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to relocate to Alaska for a year to work on a geothermal project in the series' penultimate episode.

So Kris takes a waitress job in obligatory, too tight T-shirt, and thus gets willfully abused by Danielle Davis, while Kenny Junior over-tips her as compensation. She gets fired, and nearly charged and thus possibly send back to jail, for intervening when Matt Ritter's bookie Bobby grabs his unwilling girlfriend on the parking. After Jean admits to him she knew dad doctored the books and was very lucky their first tax audit ever was not more thorough, Matt decides at the last moment against betting despite his current debt with Bobby according to a system he just learned from Charlie Hewitt.
- When she gets thrown off a horse and injured, Kris herself realizes that a career as a jockey might come at a high price.
- To Kristens horror, Wildfire is entered for a sales race, and there's even a claimant, who must buy even if the horse loses. Mother Jean wants to accept going out again, the first time since she's a widow, but tells Charlie she must ask Matt first, and hope they'll grow closer when he gives Charlie his riding lessons. Matt discovers the claimant Caldo Farms is probably a front; Kenny 'Junior' Davis accepts to act as rival claimant, so the dodgy claim may be neutralized- his price is just a single night with her, and as she realizes waking up in bed next to him, he even faked passing out in bed because she still didn't really want to go all the way. Pablo announces he'll leave Raintree if Wildfire does. After the hired jockey tells Kris to ride and teaches her how, they win the race breaking the track record on 1 1/4 mile, but Kenny's bid looses the draw. Now Jean and Pablo come to an agreement...
- While Wildfire is still getting completely rid of the poison, kid brother Todd is away diving at the coast and mother Jean at a horse-show, Matt is alone doing some handy work and putting up a prefab bookcase in his room; Kenny 'Junior' Davis convinces him to hold a party at the ranch and invites Kris and loads of others- he takes care of everything except the bookcase he promised to assemble in Matts room. Bookie Bobby turns up, demanding immediate payment of the boys' debts, but when they help him catch four kids who wired cards info for about as much, he calls it quits. Another surprise party-goer is Kris' old friend Win Acosta from camp LeGrange, who is in trouble again and tells her a deal he made with the police helped get her in jail; after she rages at him he tries to commit suicide, but Mat stops him, thinking he attacks her. Junior is bothered by Molly Blitzer, from his posh prep school Davidson; his sister Dani tells black scholarship future colleague Evan Garvey that her mother is Spanish and abandoned her as a baby with her dad. The sheriff who came order the party noise turned down is Molly's brother, and sees her half-dressed with Junior, who however declares his love for Kris.
- Kris is about to race for Dani, on her horse Picaro, against Wildfire... Jean does not like the situation but Pablo finds a bright side to it: Wildfire can now learn to give everything for other riders than Kris. Kerry is trying to talk Kris into feeling at ease with the task - to understand she's a *professional* jockey now. Their relationship is also deepening. Meanwhile, Matt is concerned that Picaro has a slight injury. Dani wants to win in order to pay back her dad. Bobby comes to see Junior in order to make amends. Junior says he needs $50,000 and offers his club as a collateral in order to place a bet on Picaro. If Picaro loses, Bobby will get the nightclub...
- Gillian and Matt are really starting to hit it off, which makes for a really awkward atmosphere when they have to interact with Kris and Kerry. Also, thanks to Dani's sabotage, Gillian is convinced that Kris is only interested in her career and wants nothing to do with her. Dani and Junior are trying to figure out how to run the stable, but it starts to look like their only option is to sell it. Jean has her hands full taking care of the horses of Raintree. Kris and Dani start thinking what is in the best interest of their horses and go to Gillian with the truth and a radical suggestion: Ishmael versus Wildfire - winner gets the slot in the Breeders Invitational.
- Kris and Wildfire break the track record - in training. This looks promising, since should Wildfire win the next race, it would mean a place in the Breeders' Invitational. But Kris is approached by John Zack who says that unless Kris holds Wildfire back in the upcoming race, Pablo is going to be in trouble with the law because of the man he beat up. Danielle's horse Picardo isn't doing well, so Matt suggests she try to hire Kris to be her jockey after the upcoming race is over. Naturally, Kris refuses. Jean's birthday is coming up, but she doesn't feel like celebrating. Pete's going through the books of the club and Junior has no choice but to tell him that there was no insurance. Pete is furious and storms out. Junior is trying to make things right and has called an insurance man to come to check the club. He hasn't, however, foreseen what that will unearth.
- Kris, Matt, Junior and Dani are trapped during a storm in the Davis's barn, while Ken, trying to save his own skin, pits Junior and Dani against each other, and he's nowhere to be found. Everyone is trying to help Kris get over the accident, so she can ride again, but will anything help her?
- Davis Farms and Raintree Ranch are pulling out all the stops to get a businessman to board 12 horses. Danny Davis has Took back Flame the Horse Junior Gave Kris cause the deed says the colt still belongs to Davis Farms.
- Danielle Davis is trying to get Gillian to sell her shares back to Davis Farms Junior Davis has become a understudy of a professional bull rider, and has been entered in the amateur division. Kris has started retraining Wildfire after Failed sire attempts. Jean Ritter tells Kris that she forgives her for letting Kerry take the Breeders Cup Money And Nobody knows Wildfire better than Kris. Gillian sell her shares to Fillycorp who she thinks is a big Corpporation that will mess around with Danielle but Fillycorp is actually Ken Davis. Jean informs Kris that Wildfire will compete in The San Angles Stakes after what she just saw in the training race Aginst Striker. Junior gets a full Eight Seconds in his Quaifying Bull Ride.
- Kris and Matt's rekindled relationship comes as a shock to Junior, who is distracted by consoling Dani in her time of mourning.
- With Jean still out of commission, Kris and Matt do their best to run the dude ranch at Raintree while also preparing for the next race, which features Dani's new horse in the field.
- The fourth season begins six months after Kris was forced out of Raintree, which has undergone significant operational changes that leave Matt pining for the past.

Mother Jean Ritter has reason to worry Kris' presence -now in the house too- will get the boys too horny, and indeed her son Matt -to whom Kris explains the burly boy he saw her with in jail is just her brother, US Marine Jace- breaks up with Kenny's sister, Danielle Davis; Kenny Junior Davis dares him to a car race, which get her and both rivaling friends arrested, which may even lead to revoking her parole. Kris tells Matt she can handle smooth types like Kenny, not nice boys like him, but wants him to keep his distance. When she learns from Junior the drag race was Dani's idea, Kris hits her publicly, but Kenny uses a secret to prevent an assault complaint which would have put Kris back in jail. At the end Wildfire also comes to her again.
- Kris must decide between staying at Raintree or traveling to Europe with Kerry to further her career; Wildfire races in the Breeders' Invitational Stakes.
- Kris worries about her status at Raintree after Gillian moves into the bunkhouse with Matt and begins offering unsolicited advice about Wildfire's training.
- Charlie takes Jean away on a romantic weekend vacation. Matt sets off to find a horse for Dani. This leaves Kris in charge of Raintree. Junior gets to first base with Rebecca, but then Kris calls him to help with the chores. Junior agrees without a thought, and soon he and Kris feel the chemistry between them again... In the end, everyone's actions bring them each all kinds of trouble.
- On the heels of her dramatic second place finish in the Sandpiper Race, Kris is offered an opportunity to star in a commercial with Wildfire, which unexpectedly thrusts Kris and Junior together.
- Kris may stress he'll never get anyway with her, Kenny 'Junior' insists they have dinner together. On the track Wildfire starts great but suddenly looses steam completely- he is diagnosed with a dangerous colic, probably from food. Matt and Kris investigate possible poisoners after finding some cattle feed in his trailer. When Matt gets threatened by his new bookie to pay his gambling bets, he thinks that was the poisoner as a warning and sells the motorbike he loved because his dad gave it to him. Pablo, Jean Ritter's new partner, insists they switch from conventional to holistic medicine and acupuncture. The other suspects is Carlos, a cattle feed trader who was once sacked because Raintree needed to downsize; this leads to a surprising culprit. Junior was glad Kris canceled their diner to watch Wildfire, goes check on his sister Danni who he finds in a girls clinic but not pregnant, gets Kris' cold shoulder when he turns up two hours late with Chinese takeaway but in the end convinces her anything together is romantic in his book.

Junior finds himself in a relationship with Rebecca. Dani offers Matt a full-time job as her horse's trainer. Jean and Pete try to smoothen the grievances between them.
- Kris has completed her term of parole, and faces her hearing. Despite some "poor judgment" on Kris's part, the judge deems that no further supervising is required. Becoming "a free woman", however, does not mean an end to her problems. Jean gets a letter from the Breeders' Invitational, but it is an invitation to spend money. To get Wildfire into the Breeders', they need an invitation from a board member of an expert panel of rich, biased persons. Luckily, Jean's father's friend is a member and invites him for a visit. He seems ready to invite Wildfire, but later changes his mind. The Ritters' last hope is Gillian Parsons, the heiress of the Parsons Hotels. She's coming to the Davises' charity ball and Kerry's plan is to get Kris there to talk Gillian into inviting Wildfire. Kris is uncomfortable with the whole social gathering, but agrees to try... Dani, on the other hand, intends to get his new horse, Ishmael, invited by "pimping out" her brother to Gillian... Junior offers to take Matt with him, to check out the babes - which Matt is in need of now that he no longer has a nightclub to pull the babes in... Everything seems to be within the possibility of success, but no one has thought about loose lips and someone's secret past.
- After Kris unexpectedly returns for a glimpse of Wildfire's next race, she gains an unlikely ally and a place to stay.
- Kris and Junior hastily decide to get married, but they're forced to postpone their plans when Jean is injured by one of the horses rescued by Matt.
- The second race of Wildfire and Kris is approaching. Matt is in a difficult position: he is coaching both Kris on Wildfire and Dani's jockey on her horse - a conflict of interest that he has difficulties trying to get Kris and Jean to accept. Junior's nightclub is ruined by a water leak but gets surprise salvation: Rebecca knows lots of professionals who will work for discount and Isabelle announces that she will invest in the nightclub. Todd gets into karate to fend off school bullies.
- Kris happens to meet the others on town and joins them. Then Rebecca arrives and they introduce her to Kris. Suddenly Kris remembers she needs to be somewhere else... Hal Berney, a famous coach arrives at Raintree to offer Kris a gig as a jockey. Kris is reluctant to take the job because she believes the man is only into coaching because of the additional income outside races. Hal manages to win Kris over, but his coaching methods and race strategies don't agree with Kris. Kris's manager Kerry is there to support Kris, which starts to bring them closer to each other. Charlie returns home and finds Jean behaving unusually after Pete's visit. Rebecca discovers that Junior is a little short on cash, so she offers to move in with him and pay half the rent. Little does Junior realize to what he has got into.
- The farm's financial situation is so bad that mother Jean Ritter is preparing a sale of everything she can functionally spare, even despite emotional value, including her engagement ring. Meanwhile Kris's mother Barb, who always was a lousy role-model, is back and succeeds in making the court accept a petition to let Kris go back home, and expects her to leave the ranch. When Jean's ring is stolen, both Kris and Barb are the obvious suspects, and Kris is convinced pills still drive her ma to crime. Matt and Kenny place bets with a certain Bobby. Finally the ring is returned anonymously and the thief owes up to Jean...
