- After Nick's girlfriend dumps him, his best mate Shane has the perfect antidote to his break-up blues: three days at an epic music festival.
- Gavin is away for the day leaving Julie in charge, a chance for some fun that Kieran can't let pass. Meanwhile Margaret tries to come to terms with the new salad bar and Andy's nose is put out of joint by a rival butcher.
- Kieran has an attack of the green eyed monster as Katie becomes a bit too friendly with a visiting shopfitter. Meanwhile Julie thinks Gavin needs closure over the death of his wife and Margaret tries to get to grips with Skype.
- Julie has a blast from the past when the visiting area manager turns out to be an old colleague. Margaret is thinking of going on holiday but doesn't know where to go and Kieran is growing a beard, much to the amusement of Katie and Andy.
- Gavin struggles with the hangover from hell after a night out with Andy and Julie becomes suspicious of what exactly they got up to. Meanwhile, Kieran is worried about an ominous lunch with Emma.
- There's a buzz around the store as auditions are being held for the upcoming Valco advert. Julie struggles with interview nerves and Kieran starts making preparations for his upcoming wedding.
- Valco welcome new recruit Margaret whilst Julie tries to balance her work with arranging a special birthday meal. Meanwhile Katie decides to take pity on Kieran, having seen him make one fashion nightmare too many.
- Kieran decides Andy's been single too long and embarks on finding him a girlfriend. Meanwhile, Julie feels threatened by the return of her old boss and Margaret has to face her fears and make an announcement over the tannoy.
- Andy is on a harsh new fitness regime as he prepares to run the marathon for charity. Meanwhile Gavin makes Julie's year by finally giving her the Valco management handbook. Can she cope with the power?
- It's Gavin's last day and Julie worries she may have already failed to impress new boss, Lorraine Chain.
- Gavin's out of the picture and Lorraine is now at the helm. She announces Valco's new below economy No nonsense range which Julie is clearly not a fan of.
- It's Gavin's first scheduled visit as area manager. Julie moans about the No Nonsense range and Lorraine gives her a chat about loyalty. Andy is annoyed when the meat counter is made to use a ticket machine.
- There's a flu bug going around and Lorraine sets about spreading staff across the store. She puts Leighton on a till, and he sells alcohol to some underage kids.
- When Leighton turns down the freezers, in a bid to reverse global warming, Lorraine makes Julie sack him. Leighton is heartbroken and Julie is left feeling guilty and alone.
- When Gavin finds out about Leighton's sacking, he finds a loophole to get him reinstated. Lorraine is livid and battle lines are drawn.
- Leighton is absolutely thrilled to be back at work, though Lorraine is less than happy about it and sets about making Julie's life unbearable. Julie finally cracks and has a little breakdown but Gavin swoops in and rescues her just in time.
- Gavin decides to work closely with Lorraine. They argue over staff searches and eventually Gavin makes Lorraine quit her job. The staff are thrilled.
- It's fire drill day and with Julie still off, Gavin has to manage it. But when he learns they didn't get Margaret out in time, he realises they need to get Julie back.
- Julie's back and Gavin's worried about leaving her on her own. At first it seems like she's not ready but with a bit of support from her manager, she manages to get back to her old self.
- Gavin's dog Chester went under a bus, and Gavin starts to make mistakes. He accidentally makes Leighton pin a staff wage sheet up on the notice board. There's minor revolt, but Gavin realises he's not happy, and something has to change.
- Gavin and Julie meet the supermarket strategist whose big plans for Valco don't work for everyone.
- Gavin and Richard clash over plans for the new Valco Better store. After a visit from Emma's dad, Kieran to consider moving to Newquay.
- A little gazebo called the suggestion fort goes up in the store. It's France's latest brainwave get the customers to say what they want from a Valco Better store, and Gavin's forced to be the sounding board.
- France launches his latest initiative - the fast lane an aisle for all the essentials, so you can quickly shop and go. It's even got its own till with an experienced checkout girl (Lisa) manning it.
- Leighton comes into work in a blazer - Richard France is taking him to head office to pitch his ideas up there. Gavin thinks this is a bad idea but France doesn't listen.
- Gavin's interviewing for Lorraine's replacement and realises that he wants his old job back much to Julie's delight.
- It's the one millionth customer promotion, and Julie and Gavin are closer than ever. She starts to think something might finally happen, but when he reveals he has a new girlfriend, Julie's devastated.
- It's Christmas Eve and time for the annual contest with the Wigan branch to see who can return the highest sales figures. Unfortunately the shelves are empty because the delivery lorry hasn't turned up. Gavin then learns that the lorry went to Wigan by mistake and the manager there knows that he can ensure victory by hanging onto it. Gavin will need his best men to recover the lorry - unfortunately he will have to make do with Leighton and Colin.
- It's the day of the big reopening and head office turn up for the occasion. Gavin is dismayed when they keep the customers waiting outside for hours but France is waiting for his celeb. Finally she arrives it's Kelly Brook.
- Gavin feels isolated as Julie and Richard appear to be getting on as a team together. Katie is offered a managerial job at Valco, but has a decision to make when an old friend appears. Lisa and Colin are having doubts about their wedding.
- Gavin returns and is trying to be a new man. Modern and forward thinking just like France. But it's rather tragic, and also too late, as France has closed ranks and will only speak to Julie.
