- Following the stranger's claim to be the real Arnold Haithwaite, Arnold questions himself. Visiting the beach, Jane offers to teach him to swim but someone rolls a large rock in their direction. The stranger vanishes but life isn't normal.
- Arnold has lost to Sonny and he intends to turn Gallows Tree House into an hotel. Simon is guilty for letting Arnold down and asks Jane to help but she has Jeremy in her life. Miss Hendry gives Simon an address where Arnold can get help.
- Arnold Haithwaite discovers the secret of his indentity. The villainous Sonny finds the opposition getting tougher. Arnold has been fighting to save his home from Sonny who wants to make it into a hotel. He is unsuccessful in his fight against him until hep from an unexpected quarter arrives. Meanwhile Jane, the spoilt young girl from the manor house, finds her headstrong ways are putting her life into danger.
- The storm has left Jane marooned in Sea-Church. Jeremy has crashed his car so Norma gives aid. Arnold breaks free, of Sonny, to find Jane. As the water rises the pair get to higher ground and wait out the storm. Next day, Sonny is missing.
- Sonny, with Valerie Binns return to Skirston, bringing with him major re-development plans including shopping centre and marina. Sonny tells Harold he has no choice but to leave. Peter follows Sonny to a derelict building in Manchester.
- Arnold discovers that documents from Ernest lock box are missing. Norma is trying to get Arnold to like her but can't compete with Jane. The Intruder offers Ernest a place to retire, in Manchester, laying out plans for developing the area.
- Simon is caught, by Sonny, spying in a derelict Manchester abattoir. Sonny threatens him with a razor and will leave him to die but Valerie agrees to return to Skirston if he frees the boy. Simon lies to Arnold but later calls the police.
- Young Arnold Haithwaite's life in the sleepy village of Skirlston is happy and uneventful, until a stranger arrives --- the sinister, one-eyed Sonny.
