- Ben and Adam capture a known outlaw that tried to hold up the stage they were passengers on. A reporter who was also a passenger wants to make them both famous, even if he has to amplify the story. But when they take him to jail at the next town, they are met by an aloof sheriff who doesn't mind regaining his past glory with the help of a little creative writing.

- Responding to a newspaper item, Paladin takes the overland stage to Bracketville to see a man named DeWitt about his supposedly unruly son. For his fee, he is to kidnap the boy and take him to another town, where some friends will sit on him until he cools down. He discovers that DeWitt's son is the new attorney who rode with him on the stage into town. When the son is killed, Paladin must shoot it out with the marshal or be killed himself.
- A recently released convict who swore he would get vengeance on Marshal Dillon is found unarmed and shot to death inside a cabin. The marshal, who had a fever, is found nearby-unable to remember anything and immediately under suspicion.
- When fast-talking killer Charlie Hacker escapes from Matt in Texas, Matt follows him right into Mexico without extradition papers and has to deal with corrupt officials there.

When they are put up in the hotel under protective custody, the Slater gang makes several attempts to finish them all off so they can't testify against the one brother they managed to capture.
- Paladin reads of an old sheriff friend in Texas from a newspaper article of two escapees just convicted of murder they said they only meant as a fandango. The brother of the deceased is a known gunman and will kill these boys even if Paladin tries to get in the way.
- A saloon girl spurns a man's advances in Wichita and moves to Dodge, where she becomes a respectable married woman, only to be confronted with her past when she discovers that her rancher husband is the nephew of the man she refused.
- Four sisters come from Boston to try to prevent a property left to them by their uncle from being auctioned due to back taxes. They arrive the day of the sale but are short the full amount due. When Ben steps in and pays off all that is due, one of the sisters wonders what's Ben's motive. But are her suspicions aimed in the wrong direction?
- A man carrying a tempting sum of money is attacked from behind by someone who beats him and leaves him for dead. Lucky for the injured man, an old friend of Matt is there to take him in to Doc Adams for mending.
